  1. I am to advance across a salt marsh keeping an eye open for any ambush... The briefing says use my Recon Humvees as they have good spotting ability...but they can't seem to spot sh!t! It also says to use my other weapons platforms (Bradleys and M1s) to do the damage once the enemy has been spotted...but I only start with 2 recon Humvees, 1 GP Humvee and 1 Bradley. Everything gets knocked out before I even get to see the enemy...and that's doing what the mission says - lead with the Humvees. I've tried going slow. Fast. Hunting. Moving to the high ground on the East of the map....nothing - they simply don't spot anything until they're hit! And even then I can't see where it came from! Do I have to do something special to recon? I can't see any commands for it.
  2. I didn't read anything other than the first post and just wanted to retorte. It's credit to BF that you can come on your forums and post such an open and grateful post. I was very impressed with CM:SF when it was released. I was even more impressed with Marines and I'm knocked out by British Forces. Brilliant stuff. Thx to you all and the beta tsters. I always loved the Combat Mission games but yearned for proper 3D graphics. You took your game there, amid alot of flaming, and I have loved them even more than the originals. I wasn't oo happy about the returning to WWII, as I've been having alot of fun with the modern stuff. However, being as it was always Combat Mission that made me yearn for 3D - it would seem cruel not to buy your next iteration. Just keep going making great products and I'll buy them Thx Oh - one more thing - when you have time to "do it", I'd love to do a Falklands game - although I am probably in the minority here!
  3. Too small to see - nevermind - I enjoyed looking!
  4. Was watching my beautiful Warrior driving along and noticed damage to the slat armour on the front and one side - nice touch! Whilst I'm here, I took a couple of screenshots, but couldn't find them - where do they go? This was one I did with a screen grab.
  5. Tried both and am rubbish at both. Too cautious and I run out of time. Too fast, and men and machines are falling by the wayside. I try to get high ground to get a picture, but I'm just too damn slow. One thing I am good at it seems is rushing an APC into an area, dropping smoke, dropping troops into a building and reversing out...then the boys are stuck! I simply don't seem to be able to play this right. I love the game (by the way, apart from the damned annoying sound, the Challengers are absolutely stunning) but am just not cut out to lead hence my real life lack of promotion I guess :-(
  6. I could go with the wrong sound at the moment tbh - the looping is really winding me up. And bearing in mind I've never heard a Challenger 2 (was in the forces in the Chieftan days!), I'd be able to relax with the turbine effect. Would love BF to source a good, proper Challenger 2 sound though
  7. I'd like to add a thank you to BF and the testers - great to see this out. Buying it takes me back to the day when I was going out on a Sunday with the family and had a brain fart - thought I saw the British module for purchase, so bought it (was under great pressure to buy it quick before the wife walked in) only to find out I had re-purchased the Marines add on. Gave the Marines addon away to a fellow wargamer. Made sure this was the teh actual Brit module before I bought
  8. is it possible to replace the existing Challenger sound with the Abrams sound file? I don't know about modding - so not sure if it's just a case of copying the Abrams file and replacing the Challenger one with it?
  9. I guess it's too late for this request, seeing as I've realised it's now released. Would like to see it in a patch - but thank you for releasing the game and good luck with sales. Bought and installed.
  10. Can you please see if you can do something with the sound file for the Challenger - you can definitely hear it looping when it's moving at a constant speed - very off putting and detracts from the immersion. The M1, by comparison, sounds smooth moving along at a regular speed - the Challenger does not. Sorry if it's been discussed already. Other than that - it was nice to see this run on my comp - can't wait. Nice to hear a wee Scottish voice when I was operating the Challenger.
  11. I don't know that there's no way to use the file...but it's called launch.dat...I have no idea how I can utilise that. As for the download v disk...I know I could download and play right now and believe me...I am totally aware of some of the draconian disk drms out there. But I have made my point I think...unlicencing isn't an option for me. I forgot to unlicence once before and the other time (ArmA) I installed a patch which used another licence and both times I ended up with games I couldn't play until I got support...and I choose not to go through that as an option. I have a family and a dog...I have very little gaming time and the gaming time I do have, when I choose what game to play, I like to sit down and play it...not write emails and wait on support. I'll drop it now, because this started out as a different thread and has become my own personal bitching ground. Sorry. I just choose not to buy games with this kind of drm.
  12. Lethaface Thx very much for the reply. Unfortunately it's only made me hold my position on the matter. I came foul of the limited installs "per licence" with another company because I changed something (can't rememember if it was several pieces of hardware (motherboard, CPU AND graphics card) or just the graphics card), but I forgot to unlicence the product. I was then left without being able to play the game from Friday night until Tuesday night...something I think is just not right for a consumer. I'm afraid that particular instance (in fact I think that was the second time...I'm pretty sure I fell foul of this method with Armed Assault) made me decide I was not going the obtrusive DRM route. I understand they have to protect their software, but I do not want to have to jump through hoops to play a game. I'm afraid I'll leave this one. If it ever shows up on store shelves, I will probably pick it up...
  13. I didn't know there was postage on top of that. Well that just seals it. Pity I'd just like to point out though, before the hounds pounce, that I am not being tight here. I have a wife, two kids, a dog and two guinnea pigs and they ALL come before my hobby. That is why I do not want to pay £15 postage! I see it as a complete waste of money. I've already made my feelings clear about digital downloads....although I might as well make the enquiry...is TOW2 an exe file? I ask because it was actually Combat Mission Shock Force from Gamersgate that I was talking about before...I have a file on my drive called launch.dat and I cannot do anything with it outside of the Gamersgate utility...which, I see, they have now dumped. And that was specifically what I was talking about when I mentioned digital downloads before...having some file you cannot do anything with without some sort of online activity...something I do not care for anymore...as well as other times I've been ridiculously burned by DRM (be it online, eLicence, limited installes or disk DRM)...it's an outrageous state of affairs nowadays. I am not a thief...I am a legitimate customer. Rant over and sorry for off topic. If someone from battlefront could just tell me what is involved with the eLicence and what is required. Limited installs (I know about limited parallel installs)? Unlicencing before upgrading computer? Thx
  14. The username and password you use for logging into the forums is NOT the same as the one you use for logging in to buy a game from their shop. I'm not sure why the new username and password don't work for you buying the product...maybe you have to change them because they are temporary. Did you follow the link in the email (if there was one)? Anyway, yes you are successfully logged in and using your FORUM username and password...but it's a different one entirely to use the shop.
  15. I'm sick of limited downloads and unlicensing. I won't buy digital download anymore. If this is in the shops in a month, I might buy it...but it's a BIG might. This is not "personal" against Battlefront, I'm just sick to the core of limited downloads, limited installations and licensing/unlicensing. I'm too old to jump through hoops.
  16. I'm getting my arse handed me every time. I've tried dropping smoke and fast tracking up the right flank. I've tried holding the middle and going through the buildings. Whatever I do, I'm losing tanks, MGS, Strykers full of troops! Any pointers would be great. Clearly I'm not designed for tactics...I take losing men far too hard!
  17. Thank you...but surely the same problem persists? What I mean is, I wasn't complaining about the "weird" assignment of keys, rather that pressing a key does not work unless you have selected the correct menu. B (for fast move) is under the Movement menu...but if you are under the Combat menu and press B, nothing happens...you have to actively select the Movement menu and then press B. Isn't that correct? With this new file (which I will give a try thank you), won't the same problem exist?
  18. I love your game, I truly do. But the single biggest annoyance I have with it comes from the interface. Why in gods name do I have to select a specific menu in order to select an option under that menu. As an example, if I want to move fast, I have to first select the Movement tab and then press B. Now assuming B isn't used for anything else, wth can I not simply press B? Just wanted to get that off my chest because every time I play this game I love it...but find it very frustrating not being able to press a key and have the order activated. As usual, I'll put my normal "I am stupid sometimes and could've missed something" footnote in.
  19. Thought I'd better mention here...I saw my troops standing, then kneeling, standing, then kneeling, standing...etc...etc...etc...This was once they had reached their destination and may well have been when they were under fire...but they were bopping up and down like you wouldn't believe...I actually lol'ed when I saw it, it looked that funneh!
