  1. I love the way you can be close to the enemy, just on the other side of the bocage, and then open fire in close quarters. It gives you (and the enemy...) so many tactical opportunities.
  2. I'm only 15 min into the battle, but so far it has been one of my all-time CM-moments, so I tip my hat to your effort. Also, great ambient sound mod and a big plus for the link in the designer's note.
  3. Is it the delete button on the keyboard? I have used the "circle" button for cancelling orders, but it doesn't work with pop smoke.
  4. I used pop smoke with one of my squads. The pink line appears, but what I don't understand is: - Can you cancel it? It seems that you can't as the line refuses to disappear even if clicking the button again. - Can you change the direction in which the smoke will appear? If so, how?
  5. I usually play with the setting that shows where and when a tank/armored car/half-track etc gets hit. But I think a vital part of that info is missing, and that is whether the hit is from small or large caliber ammo. Sure you can decide on review what the case is, but in the heat of the battle I want to know right away.
  6. I tried to find in the manual different commands for poppning smoke or WP (if available), but found none. Is it basically situational and decided by the TacAi which to use?
  7. My impression in this game is that HE shells from tanks do far more damage to infantry than what it did in CMBB and CMAK. To me it seems more realistic. A single tank can now take out a squad in a matter of minutes.
  8. This is a good idea. I really miss the engage command in CMAK/CMBB, which was very useful IMO. I also feel that hunt sometimes is too slow, but I guess that's what scouts do.
  9. I've been wondering the same thing myself. But I guess it is a game that it would take some time to get into in order to make a fair review. As far as I'm concerned, after a few days, it's pure gold.
  10. Man, that video was surreal...to say the least. Thanks on the advice concerning mods. Now I just have to find time to play in the middle of a work week...sigh...
  11. Got the game yesterday and I'm blown away by how good it is. As soon as I get used to the interface I'll definitely try this one. Pointe du Hoc is intriguing to say the least. One question though - the mods, do I just put them as the are in a "Z"-folder in Data folder?
  12. This looks amazing. Can't wait to try it out.
  13. Where can I find them Hans? At the scenario depot, or? Also, forgot to say that I'm, primarily looking for CMAK and vs AI.
  14. I'm looking for great small scale scenarios that are either on small or tiny maps. Any suggestions?
  15. I just finished a quick battle, and to be honest, it's like you said Philippe, quite mediocre - no sense of structure or tactics, just uncontrolled mayhem.
  16. Will the AI do a better job of placing forces/flags etc. depending on of it is defending, attacking or if it is a meeting encounter - thus making it a better quick battle?
  17. I only play against the AI, but have not tried quick battles yet. I'm looking for small battles of some 20 minutes long. My question is - do quick battles against the AI come out any good/interesting compared to scenarios?
  18. Having played CMAK for a few years, I've never really gotten into mods. I use a grid mod which I think really helps. I'm not that interested in mods that enhance graphics since I usually play at camera 4 or 3 where details aren't that noticable. So, I'm looking for CMAK-mods that make gameplay easier, more intuitive etc. Any suggestions other than grids? Thanks
  19. OK, so the AI will still be as "stupĂd" as before the adjustment. What do you consider the major flaw in the AI behaviour? The thing that annoys me the most, since it is so obvious, is how troops are sent into the open despite overwhelming presence of enemy units.
  20. I often see scenario designers suggest an increase in AI setting, rather than increasing the enemy force size, as you suggest JasonC. Might increasing the force size throw their scenario design off and disrupt the intended structure/flow of the scenario instead of giving you a tougher fight. Or both...
  21. In what sense does the adjustment to AI (+1,+2,+3) change the game? How will you tell that the AI got "smarter"? What aspect of AI decisions will improve most significantly?
  22. So, no consideration is taken to LOS, units will seek coverage rather than getting out of LOS...
  23. One aspect of the AI that I have a hard time accepting is that routed/panicked/broken units have a tendence to run/sneak towards the enemy, instead of away. It happens far too often. I realise that soldier under stress will do irrational things, but getting closer to the source of danger seems wrong all together. In a recent scenario, I had some units behind a ridge. As they advanced they came under heavy fire and routed/panicked. Instead of going backwards a few meters and hide behind the ridge, they started running in the open towards the enemy. Needless to say, they got slaughtered. Is this just a flaw in the AI that I have to accept or did soldiers in WWII really behave this way? Is there any way to counter this behavior other than having a HQ nearby?
  24. I had a recent problem with a pillbox like this, and being not too careful it took out most of my tanks. What I found difficult was to figure out exactly what its arc of fire was. Is it 45 degrees from either side of the center? By the way, in order to fire through its firing slit, wouldn't that mean that you are within its arc of fire also? One final thought, will a bazooka kill a pillbox with a direct hit from behind?
  25. I've just started playing this game, along with the WaW-expansion. I have a question regarding medals/experience. I play against the allies in Fall Weiss and when i click on an enemy unit there is a row of medals, and then a small gap and then some more medals. What does this mean? My units only have one row of medals. Oh, another thing springs to mind, is there any way of telling what units can take upgrades without checking each and every one out?
