  1. I'm not even sure what all the fuss over the PD on the resupply drop ship is..? In my experience it's quite easy to destroy the thing.. It has trouble dealing with low trajectory projectiles and is easily overwhelmed, even the stationary towers are not 100% effective at stopping low trajectory rounds like AP..
  2. Many newer AFVs have more significant underside armour these days, in response to mines etc.. So it's not unreasonable that the Thor has decent underside armour.. I really believe the main issue with the 20mm gun is that even hitting the side of the tank at a 179ยบ angle will still give you penetration.. If the shell was more heavily effected by the angle of the shot you would have fewer kill positions and actually have to try and get behind it.. Currently you can go head to head vs the Thor and still get side hits quite easily because the acute angle doesn't significantly effect the shot! The Apollo is at a terrible disadvantage since the frontal armour is easily penetrated by the 20mm rounds, I personally think that should be changed.. Why ever use the Apollo if its armour doesn't even protect you from front on 20mm? I also think the 20mm Apollo variant is sort of useless, why would you ever pick it? Its armour wont help you in close combat with other vehicles and it's much slower than them.. Rear penetration with 20mm vs the Thor is fine, but side and side turret penetration seems too much, especially when you can easily spray the fuel cell.. Current M1A1s do not take damage to the side from 20mm, even AP-RPGs are only able to penetrate the armoured skirt of the side, not the hull or turret.. I believe 1 or 2 WERE disabled from 20mm to the rear though.. These were mobility kills only.. Frontal penetration against the Apollo should really be reconsidered..
  3. Currently can't join any server.. It sits at the join screen for ages then eventually says something about username/password being wrong or unable to validate..
  4. This is common to all OpenGL games.. GL distance fog gives you greater visible distances from the sides of vision from the front because of how it scales for perspective..
  5. I'm not talking so much spinning while moving forward and turning, I'm more talking about crazy spin-outs while sitting still and rotating..
  6. After a bunch of Thor vs 20mm Paladin battles I think the main reason 20mm seems so godly is that even when facing front on to the Thor it can almost always still aim down the side and score lots of hits, due to the angle modifier capping at 0.5 it still easily penetrates at even the most acute angle imaginable, coupled with the very high rate of fire and multiple shells per burst it very quickly rips your internal components up.. Considering it will take the Thor 2-3 hits to knock out the Paladin, in which time the Paladin can land many many hits, the Thor will lose every time unless they foolishly aim at the frontal armour.. Against the Apollo it is even worse, since the 20mm rounds will penetrate the frontal armour!! In the time it takes the 120mm to reload for the 2nd shot you will have killed it easily even by shooting the front..
  7. Yep, I'v seen the same thing a few times.. Though it isn't really common for me.. dual 1.25ghz G4, Radeon 9000...
  8. Read the background story
  9. I think there could be some issue with slower load times on OSX.. I tested it on a 2.4ghz Celeron with 512mb ram (win98) and it loaded a full minute faster than on the dual 1.25 G4 with 1gb ram.. (2min vs 3min)
  10. I find it gets very laggy.. But that could just be my computer.. No other problems..
  11. I don't really see a problem with it, perhaps it could be laid out a little different, like have a major heading for Apollo, Thor, Paladin, etc, then under that heading have the weapon mount 20mm, 76mm, ATGM etc, so it's easy to see there are really only a couple of vehicles with different load outs.. I think perhaps the 20mm Apollo should be changed to a dual mount 76mm turret.. The Apollo is not fast enough to get in close with the 20mm..
  12. Well going by those figures, it seems that 76mm really has no use, 20mm is only slightly weaker but has a crazily high rate of fire which easily makes up for the small power difference.. 120mm Doesn't seem to be significantly more powerful, but of course has much grater effective range.. Perhaps the 20mm really needs to be toned down a bit? Saying that futuristic 20mm rounds are more powerful than ww2 or current ones is fine, but if 20mm rounds are tons more powerful, wouldn't the 76mm and 120mm rounds have scaled up similarly in damage? Instead of 20mm just catching up with them? Anyway I'm sure they are collecting all the stats from the servers and will be able to see what's too power and what's too weak [ March 25, 2006, 06:06 AM: Message edited by: Netherby ]
  13. Well I'm glad to hear suspension is actually there But yeah I think it is too stiff currently.. Any comment on the all wheel drive vs rear? Or the braking thing where you can make them vehicles do wheelies and flips?
  14. At the end of the match I often sink into the ground.. I think it might just be from client side prediction and latency as the map ends..
  15. I kinda think 20mm might be a bit overpowered in drop team.. It's quite capable of penetrating the frontal armour of even the Thor under about 500-400m.. While the 76mm seems ineffective at just about any range..
