Mord, as to all the visual improvements you suggest, I think it is a great idea with one change. To be able to toggle these things off. To me, the graphics are not too important, not to mention I value simplicity. As to what they should do with CMx2, I'll just trust that BFS will make a good game. One thing I'd like when CMx2 comes out, though, would be to have BO,BB, and AK source codes all opened for modders, like half life. The scenario designers and modders are already so creative, imagine what the geniuses could do with more control. Pacific, Blitz, all kinds of neat stuff would be opened up, with no cost to battlefront. It would also keep people interested in the older games for a while longer.

Looking for urban warfare tips.
throwdjohn replied to Roast Duck's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
Satchel charges are nice, but I wouldn't rely on them to anchor your defense or anything. They are good against buildings yes, but you will still most likely not have enough.. there's never enough ammo is there? As for advancing you zooks with infantry, I'd give up that idea. I prefer to keep all mine back with an hq of any kind, then use em like a fire brigade against any armor that shows up. -
The 150mm Infantry gun - fighting the beast
throwdjohn replied to securityguard's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
wow....300mm.....I'm drooling. I'm not worried about winning, I just create lil scenarios to see fun stuff. I have one that is just a Allied convoy going towards an exit zone. I have a platoon blocking the only exit just in case, but I set the scenario up in order to see what a few stukas can do to a convoy. -
Sirocco, if the recon has already been modelled into the CM engine, then shouldn't I have more info. If I start a map that has already been "reconned" shouldn't I have some sort of info on the enemy? And as for smoke, I'm not too good at using it. I have a big problem in-game with coordination.

Whats so special about the lee enfield ?
throwdjohn replied to Skolman's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
Well I'm not one for facts, preferring my own opinions, so i skipped the posts with numbers in them, sorry. Why would you want to make a garand auto? Good God man, what country are you from? Maybe it's an american thing, maybe it's a teenager thing, maybe it's an american teenager thing, but anythings better at full auto. -
The Ai is (for a medicore player such as meslef) DAMNED good on defense. It is fun to slaughter AI on offense, but I have one question. Why is the AI so horrible with infantry, but vs. tanks the AI is AWESOME. Or maybe i just dunno how to use tanks.

German Pioneer Squad

Actually, akula, "ronson" was not a specific kind. Also, americans might have used zippo, seeing as it is a more american brand, though i have heard americans use "ronson" -
As to the 'fausts, makes sense, although it would be nice to see 1 per couple of US infantry squads. To sergei, DUR, I'm so unobservant. I'd rather ask this question than look for myself i guess. Also I foolishly let my cousin borrow BB, and he has absconded with it.

Mortar HTs are crap. Discuss/analyse.
throwdjohn replied to pawter's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
I like mortar HTs. Especially effective is getting LOS within a few feet of the ATG, but not to the ATG. -
Can you run over enemy infantry also? That would be fun, a mass runover attack......

Scariest sight ever : My last Sherm, with about 7 or 8 yellow lines from ubercats pointed right at it

What is the deal with this CMAKorea? Are there lots of scenarios for it? Any info on it you can give me will be GRRRRRRR-EAT.

What do we want in the new CM game, Part Deux!
throwdjohn replied to MrSpkr's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Personally, I think the new game should NOT be super complicated like all of these suggestions.....um suggest? DAMN ME! Anywho, the simplicity of the game is what made it possible for me to pick it up and play as a kid, and I cannot deal with a game more complicated than AK. Plus i cannot i repeat CANNOT get a new comp. -
The 150mm Infantry gun - fighting the beast
throwdjohn replied to securityguard's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
Methinkgs I'll have to make a lil Brummbar-Crack soviet infanrty in houses fight...purely for the enjoyment of killing russkis of course. -
Good tips, thanks all. However duck, you pointed out a mindset I'm trying to avoid. Too often in game I am given vehicles like greyhounds, stuarts, etc., and the immediate thought is to use them to draw fire. That is totally unrealistic, to use recon vehicles as expendable AT spotters. Also, as I pointed out, I am looking for tactics using ONLY shermans and some grunts. I guess practice is all i need. The AI is so horrible with infantry, why can it kick my ass all over the map when it comes to armor? (hypothetical) Also, I'm sure this has been whined about from day one of CMBO, but is accuracy undermodelled? You don't often hear of tanks missing 10 shots in a row IRL.

Poppys, I'm assuming you're in america eh? HAHA our right to bear arms. That is neat that you got your own garand. Maybe you can figure out how to make it full auto like capt. Winters of BoB fame. Too bad I can't own a gun now (too young) and most likely never will (I'm waiting for myself to commit a felony =) -
I detest any scenarios bigger than the occasional "large". I have neither the time, patience, or brainpower to move across huge maps with multiple battalions. Of course, in this I seem to be rather alone. Anyone know of some good company/battalion sized scenarios for any of the CM series?

German Pioneer Squad
throwdjohn replied to Semper Fi Tim's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
OK, it just seemed as if it were harder to move Italian and Russian infantry squads than german or anglo/american. I love the smart people in here, theyr'e so derned helpful. -
Why are RPGs not modelled into CMBB? Was use not widespread enough? Also, russkis weren't the only Allies to use captured 'fausts. To me they are one of the best reasons to play as axis. No other infantry units have anywhere NEAR the at capability.

Does anyone have stats for this vehicle :)
throwdjohn replied to DasNoogie's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Maybe they had invisible reindeers AND rocket-skis? That would be neat if they had them in cm. -
Hans, I downloaded a few (rather, all I could find) of these scenarios, however, some of them have problems with the dl. Help me, PLEASE. PS Hans, all of your Small Battles are fun, though the one i most anticipated, Outpost Eerie, didn't dl right either.

Question on Allied units with Explosives
throwdjohn replied to Hans's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Are you looking for something smaller than a 12 man squad? I dunno, I'm not too much of an expert. However, is splitting engineer or demo squads an option? -
My favorite scenarios are those involving roughly a company of infantry and a platoon of shermans for support. However, if ya'll haven't noticed, Shermans suck. What are some good tactics for scouting AT gun positions when you have only tanks and infantry. Infantry rarely gets a gun to open up, and i don't like using my tanks as expensive gun spotters. Any suggestions? Also, with Shermans, just how cautious is cautious enough?

German Pioneer Squad
throwdjohn replied to Semper Fi Tim's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Andreas pointed out what I did in my post on molotovs, that is, they were for the most part ineffective. And for the person who said a russki SMG is ALMOST as good as any german squad, you are wrong. However, it brings up an interesting point. It occurs mostly with Eye-ties in AK but to a lesser extent in BB. I am reffering of course the infantry suckieness. Are german squads better than russki squads of same experience and roughly same weapons?
