  1. Thats is awesome technology , just wish they could counter the IED threat now. Appears to be the main cause of casualties.
  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boomerang_(mobile_shooter_detection_system) Was reading a bit about the Stryker and spotted this article. Many of you may have heard of this issue but i found it amazing that troops didn't know they were under fire until someone was hit due to the noise of their vehicles , step up Boomerang to alert all concerned. Cool stuff.
  3. fair point, i guess using the FACE option does align them along a ridge (for example) pretty well. Do sometimes see a single squad member hanging off the edge a little or on the downhill of a slope , but is better than CM1 i agree. So what you are saying is in CM1 you can define any spot but the unit in question doesnt nessesary go there. In CM2 they hit the square and align them selves is a better fashion.
  4. ps more info on squad such as: names of individuals rank of individuals mentioned so many times by so many people but also: kill stats weapon info. Just dont feel you get enough info about the unit.
  5. actually having played CMSF for the first time on 2 years again moveable/amendable way-points would be helpful. also miss the ability to place squads at an exact location i.e forced to deploy in a square / grid. Completely understand this must be limited to the game engine though , just kind of awkward coming form CMx1. Takes a bit of getting use to but over all i have to agree is a cracking engine once patched.
  6. thanks for the reply martin , good to understand the time scale , helps me make a more informed decision.
  7. Just spotted this sorry. "Later this month, a bundle will be made available including all three modules (Marines, British Forces and NATO) for only $50. This bundle will replace the existing Marines + British Forces bundle available currently (for $35)."
  8. Greener maps are much more especially pleasing for some reason.
  9. Not that i am quibling about spending $1 (or about £3 after fees in practice) , not much point in purchasing 1.2.1 (paradox) as im planning to purchase module .... could do with that NATO/BRITS/MARINE bundle though. How long before the buddle is availble (historical how long does it take 1 day , 1 week, 1 month ?)
  10. Ah i see thanks , so whatever version i install / have i still need to install 1.21 just what flavour of 1.2.1 depends on whether i have installed a module or not. So installing a module takes me from paradox 1.2.0 to BF 1.2.0 .... so then i would install BF 1.2.1. Not installing a module keeps me on paradox 1.2.0 .... so then install paradox 1.2.1. Gotcha , cheers, thanks for the clarification ... no wonder BF moved away from retail
  11. excellent , so when should we expect CM:N ?
  12. correct , didnt install 1.2.1 as site claims you dont need too if you purchase a module. Planning to purchase NATO (preferable as a bundle as i dont own any other modules) so didnt think i needed to install 1.2.1 at all , i.e the 1.2.1 mods are installed with any module ... is what i took from the below phrase .... am i missing something here ? a brain perhaps "Combat Mission: Shock Force - Paradox Version These patches are applicable ONLY for the retail version distributed by Paradox Interactive. If you have ANY other Module installed, then you DO NOT NEED this patch." http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_versions&Itemid=317#Combat Mission: Shock Force
  13. Ok, after being bombarded by everyone excitement of CMSF i installed it again yesterday. Taking it easy by creating a scenario in my favour to learn the ropes again without getting too frustrated by massacres and high tech long range weapons. Prefer the green European looking maps , think this is one of the reasons i stopped playing it TBH , desert just doesn't look that good. Anyway, 1.10 patch installed, 1.20 patched installed. Stopped short of installing 1.21 because the text claims you don't need to upgrade to it 1.2.1 if you ever plan to install a module. BUT examining NATO site it claims you need to be on 1.2.1 to install NATO. 1) so which is it ? 2) when is the nato/marine/brits bundle likely to be available ? Thanks Scott
  14. Ah so this is what BF mean by hiding much of the info that was available in CMx1. The actual values must be used for ballistic calculation , user simply sees the average values in the form of THINK + etc ? i.e to stop competitors simply buying the game and stealing the research ? Still miss the kill stats though
  15. excellent , that's encouraging , what about a hole in the floor Ps so if you cant use windows ... blow a hole ! .... doesnt do stealth much good granted ... or if your trying to get out of a small room to the outdoors
  16. Can you knock a hole in the wall and traverse your squads through it ? ... its a common tactic for urban assaults (see stalindgrad for example)
  17. Yip, this is a good point in between all the hilarious points made above , CMSF is obviously not political in anyway, im guessing they had to pick somewhere. I much prefer a real world map and country to a made up one. Question though , WW2 always uses real conflicts so why doesn't CMSF simulate the Gulf Wars for example ?
  18. Topic im sure has been raised before, just wondering what Syrian nationals thought of being at the centre of a mock conflict ? I mean, if it was Scotland V USA , i think i would find that very interesting especailly if maps were authentic (the Battle of Stirling Bridge 2010 for example ) ... plus im sure us Scots would win ......
  19. just happened to catch a documentary on the history channel this evening talking about the effectiveness of MG42 fire during Pointe De Hoc 6th June 44. Tobruks and fields of fire were all laid out but because of pre-raid bombing and naval arty drastically changing the landscape the filed of fire were reduced to 2 , 5 , 10 metered at best .... MG42 was near useless against advances from small squads with small arms fire and lots and lots of cover .... granted i guess this was a special case that didnt happen that often.
  20. really interesting stuff guys, i could listen too you all day. Wish i knew enough to contrubute to be honest ! loved that MG42 vid too, makes the hairs on the back of the neck stand up !
