  1. You don't have to be sorry, Grampa. Them as can do, has to do for them as can't. And someone has to speak up for them as has no voices. (Of course, choosing to do so in the den of unbelievable knuckleheadedness that is the Peng is questionnable). Oh please, please Grampa, before we go to bed, tell us another story, a real story, a story from when you was young and innocent (back in them days where you wrote the yeardate with three digits only) and had the perma-running nose all little toddlers have no matter how many sodding tissues you stuff their pockets with. Stupid brats.
  2. Yes Boo, Teeth staring. You know this strange and stupefying power, nay, ability the limeys have to walk with their nose upwards to the sky, daunty and snob, as if to say "Huf ! *I* jolly don't talk to peasants, my good man !", and, (and that's the rub of it) *staring down at you through their horse-like teeth* ? That's "teeth staring". Makes'em look like flaming gay inbred monkeys, the lot of 'em, but apparently, they believe it makes them look posh and distinguished. Mintreeking streaks of puke, I swear to Me. EDIT : Lars, my good man, won't you jolly well SOD THE FECK OFF AND SEND ME MY TURN, YOU MINELAYING PANSY, if it's not too much of a bother ? 3. Oy, Yeknodathon, you forgot the beret and the baguette, you bloody pom pillock ! Now, I'd let that slide coming from those uncouth Merikuns who picture France as being part of that big bulky zone entitled "Here be Dragyns" that seem to extend upon anything but Texas and Arkansas on their maps, but from a tea quaffing, pinky waving, teeth staring, almost civilized Rosbeef ? Heck, for all I know your bloody language was created to diss the Froggies ! THIS WILL JUST NOT DO !
  4. Actually I was trying to top Dalem's title... Ah, yes, now that you mention it, this all-encompassing "worthlessness race" *is* a defining feature of the people involved in this nuthouse. IMHO, they started by racing down the evolution ladder. It's only when then hit bottom that the idea of the Peng dawned. Makes sense.
  5. (has anyone tried replacing AFVs with planes alltogether ? This way, even Regular planes couldn't get into friendly firing)
  6. You guys have an unwritten policy of ever-worsening thread titles, right ?
  7. Haha Well, Silent Storm gives them primitive mecha armors (aptly dubbed "PanzerKleins") and laser guns, I guess it's OK
  8. @Boo : obviously it would be even safer if he was confined in a padded cell. Doesn't have to be a *dreadful* padded cell you know ? We could, oh, I dunno, hang Xmas decorations around, or pictures of the purdy lass he fell in love with in 1432 or sumtink. And of course, as much alcohol as he can quaff in one sitting, to keep him from wondering what he's doing in there.
  9. It's not much of a problem, since it affects both sides equally :/
  10. Ceasefire is, in my book, acknowledgment from both parties than, on the whole, the battle is set, and no matter what actions are taken by both parties, the result won't vary much. Both accept that they can't win. If it's only one side that can't win, then a surrender is in order, I think. Ceasefire's not a way to reduce the losing margin by stopping the fight before you're totally overrun (well, unless you're opponent doesn't know how close he is to that, in which case it's a shrewd trick to pull of course )
  11. In my opinion, there should be restrictions towards Seanachai's postings. Perhaps some sort of board version of a padded cell. It's obvious the obnoxious git (or, rather, half-git, to be anatomically correct) looooves to hear himself talk, but I reckon no one among us did anything wrong enough to warrant being the unwilling (oh so unwilling) recipients of his Cortez' Conquista Vet ramblings.
  12. Ah. That would explain why an empty field explored by PSWs suddenly became a chessboard of mines when the real tanks moved in.
  13. "I can't believe this ! I can't for the life of me find the Standard Issue Paddles for our gun ! They don't even mention them in the Field Manual !" or "They'll never expect us there !" EDIT : How could one forget : "Row, row, row your gun, gently down the stream Merrily, merrily, merrilye, merrily, war is but a dream !" [ June 12, 2004, 12:29 PM: Message edited by: Kobal2 ]
  14. Well you can support an infantry assault both ways : either you pour random, heavy fire on the whole position (which kills or wounds everyone not properly covered) or you can carefully put a bullet through every helmet poking out of said cover. Both get the job done in the same way (though maybe snipers would take longer to do it - after all, the fear spread by a wall of machine gun fire is instantaneous, while the fear of a sniper I think would take more time to settle)
  15. I told you we was to take a left at the last crossroad, but would you listen ?
  16. I can't wait for the day when you Aussies finally start speaking English You just don't think, ever, do you ? You know, thinking, that time when your brain provides something else than the white noise you're accustomed to ? It's obvious that if Aussies were to speak English, we'd hear *more* from them. And you "can't wait" for THAT ?
  17. 1) Whatever you like/are comfy with. It's supposed to be fun for both sides. 2) I personnaly played the AI for 3 months before thinking of tackling NS (that's of course, Natural Stupidity) - that is, until I could reliably get a victory or a draw against the AI, learn proper tactics and timing etc... Of course, even the dimwits that dwell here are a bit more clever and unpredictable than the AI (in a totaly absurd manner of course - we're talking about the Peng folks here) so I expect to get a number of sound thrashings before I get the hang of it. Noobish mistakes I will make (and still make against the AI. Like say, forgetting that I have arty, that kind of thing) 3) The first, inane rule of the Peng is (or rather, was - more about this later) : you have to challenge an individual of your level. The day I came around these parts, I logically pointed out a simple fact that those geezers had overlooked : WHEN YOU'RE A NOOB YOU DON'T KNOW WHO PEOPLE ARE, YOU MONKEYS ! Since then, they (grudgingly of course. They're your basic old people, y'ken ? They're ill at ease with new ideas. Or anything post-1960 for that matter.) seem to have admitted the idea of a new guy challenging an unknown individual, if the taunt shows enough wit, grandeur, panache, scorn, imagination etc... But of course, if you're better than them at it, they'll tell you "how *dare* you adress US like this, you SSN ?!"
  18. OK, I see. I thought that half-track steering was done mainly with the track system. As to their usage, I used them in a very satisfactory manner in one of my last battles, which featured an american Rangers company defending a small town against a reinforced SS company. I had trouble crossing the large areas of open ground separating the first houses from the last cover - not enough firepower to suppress them efficiently, and low inf ammo anyway (big problem with german infantry), and as to support I only had one Tiger left, my two StuG having been offed by TDs. What I did was drop a thick cloud of arty smoke while the Tiger, the HTs and two platoons of inf peppered the buildings that housed ennemy inf, then raced the APCs to the town, behind the first line of defense - dropped a platoon of fresh infantry right next to the main flag, which close-assaulted an HMG nest and a platoon HQ, then the APCs doubled back 60m from the first line of buildings. The resulting suppression was far more efficient since it came from both sides, and it allowed the rest of my inf to reach the town almost unharmed a couple of turns later. My first frank success in using APCs, I might add (I must admit to having used them for recce-by-explosion before)
  19. So, today we learnt that Boo is homewhipped, and he doesn't know squat about the game. Talk about news...
  20. I've been wondering about this for a while, and though I searched for it, I could only find data about how HTs were made, and never why. Now, I thought about it, and can only find defects : a wheeled vehicule goes faster, but then, a HT will only go as fast as it's tracks go - the wheels won't drag the tracks . The wheels turn faster, but then again, the tracks won't. The tracks go fine on difficult terrain, but the wheels don't. Can someone explain to me what the point of HTs is/was ? Whatever angle I choose to look upon them, they seem like the worst of both worlds... But maybe it's just an economic thing ? Cheaper to build a HT than to build a fully tracked APC ? That hardly seems logical to me...
  21. Ooops, you're so right - bit of literal translation here, I'm sorry.
  22. That's why they use the term "cavalry" for tank units I guess
  23. Oh, by the way, Area Targeting is also really usefull with HMGs : even though visually it seems you're only firing on a single point, the MG firepower will be applied in a 25-30m circle around that point, sending everybody to the ground. That is, until the MG jams, and it *will*. Bet you a dollar it jams when you need it the most, to boot.
  24. I know TW soldiers are 2D, but then again, there's 960 of them, not 30 (and Rome...OK, no talking about vaporware. Still, Rome... )
  25. Item #1 : if you target your mortars directly at an ennemy unit in LOS, the mortar will cease firing whenever LOS is broken (as if, say, that inf squad ducked down to the ground while in heavy cover). It's possible the mortar won't fire even if the contact reappears - on the whole mortar teams seem to wait for instructions before they shoot, instead of firing at will. Understandable and probably the best approach, considering their short ammo supply. To keep on firing at an ennemy even if he's hidden you've got to set the mortars to area fire, that is : target the ground on which the unit stands rather than the unit itself. Since mortar fire is imprecise even in the best of circumstances, it won't make much of a difference in accuracy, and besides mortar is AoE anyway. Item #2 : the keyword of your whole speech is "with support". That means, before you rush those positions with baïonets, rifle butts, grenades and SMGs, you've got to first put enough fire on them to silence them. Charging even 10 meters out in the open when fired upon by auto weapons *will* get you killed. Try it IRL, get killed, see if I'm wrong . Point is : before you make that charge, be sure to have every unit in that position pinned down, ducking for cover, morale shaken, the works. Many options there : arty strike, mortar fire, HMGs, AC/tank support, howitzers, ATGs, infantry...Doesn't matter how you do it, the point is : every time the ennemy raises it's head out of the grass, it must be shot at. Might take some time mind you, from a couple direct mortar shells in a foxhole to three full turns firing on a 3:1 basis for entrenched infantry. Also, infantry in buildings (or even worse, rubble) is very hard to suppress efficiently and, even more important, durably. Then you can assault (probably better to pop a bit of smoke around too, not to be pinned down in the open yourself by fire from another position further back) with good chances of success, usually routing/slaughtering/capturing the pinned units in a matter of seconds if they were already in bad shape moralewise. Best situation is of course when they take off running the instant you enter the trench/crater/foxhole/building, ripe for an open ground massacre.
