  4. Hey Dark_au, what is the most people you have played a game with? How many of them had mics? until you have played numerous games where every one had mics and almost all were human and you tried to organize a team you really have no idea what this game is and will be about. You argue like a child and lose soundly, walk out, and start trying to scare off my fellow players?! Get off this forum punk, please, until you start acting your age. It is certainly at least a kind of mobile armoured tactical.. game. the team which is most organized and plays smartest always wins.
  5. Good idea! but it only sounds plausible to me from DT tech if the squad is at least 10ish man and slow to carry so much gear. But wifi and laptops make it sound very reasonable so I hope we try it and see if its fun. Maybe something they must deploy to recieve enemy locs from all friendlies if gamely warrents.
  6. Until we get more people playing regularly (and hopefully after too) I think we should have some offers and I hope challenges. Anyone can say a date and time they hope to command a battle (or many) and anyone can offer to play as the other commander. Hopefully those interested in participating (and I hope following orders) will sign up and i hope feel uninhibited about requesting which team if they so desire. When someone offers to command a team on a date and time they set the conditions. Backing out uptill one day in advance not at all frowned on. Shorter notice and I will briefly frown. When a challenge is made the challenged (if accepting) picks conditions, day and time until agreeable one is found. ClaytoniousRex, is there yet a way so scenario can be picked right before it starts? I am much more looking forward to being commanded but to break the ice I make an offer: Thursday 730PM West Coast USA time. This might not be possible for me. I am going on a family trip tomorrow morning and will say if its possible before 1220pm Wednesday at latest. If many sign on before Wednesday and I can't command a team I will request a replacement. It will be on a non CTF server picked on Wednesday. I think a new forum should maybe be started for this, so we can have one thread per offer/challenge.

  8. Dang! This game is already the best and it sounds like it will keep getting way better at an alarming rate! Cool suggestion! Maybe in a few years someone will mod so the paint will turn to rust after some time in a corosive atmo.

  10. Ide appreciate more info than the reference to Hammers Slammers. I imagine they are better claymores all around the tank? From what you have said about the book it sounds like a very reasonable and thorough description of future warfare which I imagine is probably close to exactly as a horrediously large number of wars currently rage around the universe. I dont want to play a thoroughly accurate future "first person" war game because for my taste real modernish and future war from "first person" is WAY to dull almost constantly then much to fast deadly and impersonal once fire is recieved. Its also too long range. The game overview stresses a game design focusing on fun while still being plausible. Now clearly plausible doesnt apply to fully clever weapons design because there are no super guided arty with decoys and submunitions ,and wide fire blinding lasers, and extremely fast turning turrets, and fly with a camara mega evasive stealth missle, and directed astroids and mega claymores around tanks which auto explode and five ionbeam super AA which toast all drops within los and on and on. Thank goodness, all sound unfun. soo, I got off track, I dont really know what you are refering to. The point I first planned on making is that; Because most people who have read Hammmers Slammers have already thought of the possibilities you mention it seems you are talking to the rest of us. If you are trying to give ideas to people who havent had them yet you must tell more than the name of what you are suggesting. Thanks for the suggestion, I hope to hear more about it. Thanks for being such an active member of the forum and sugesting and describing so many ideas Dark_au amoung others. (I normally type nicer to the others thats why im giving specific thanks this time)
  11. I missed that part of your post Clay. Great news! id rmuch rather the bots aim be improved to make up for digital intellegence than make them super human. Is there or might there be in the future a thing for the bots that make them know when infantry jet within a certain radius to approximate humans ability to hear the jets. As player numbers increase the bots will be much easier to keep alive. with 3 or 4 players per side and each player babysitting one bot they should be very easilly helpfull.
  12. I think you would be much more effective in improving the playing of our community by organizing your team and beating the enemy with your superior tactics and coordination. When the tactics you dont like keep lossing people will quickly try new things or imitate you. I dont think asking people to move more smarter and not take advantage of ion towers and galaxies will help or be appreciated. organize your friends so you play at the same time on the same team if possible and really show how its done. game playing style is not a subject wellsuited to writing about, but very well demonstrated. It also eliminate the need for debate about what is tactically sound in the provided arena and lets us focus on issues more suited to debate. Id like to see some organized preplanned battles with presellected team commanders. for example i would very much like to participate in Yurch vs. Dark_au and many others. I would even more like to see two pre-public beta testers to command changing teams of players. Id be happy to command a team if not enough others want to.

  14. Great news ClaytoniousRex! Thank you more than I can type. Dark_au, it really bothers me that you keep implying that you were misled about the nature of this game before you bought it. I think I remember seeing you in the beta? If not there is still a demo to try before you buy. You had ample oppertunity to find out everything important about this game except what the new maps and infantry would be like. Since none of your long term complaining has been about either of those unknown factors please stop suggesting you didnt get what you thought you were paying for. if you were to impatient to find out what the game was like before you bought it please stop whining publicly about it and regret the "wasted" 40 bucks in silence. I am not asking you to get off the forum, just to try to convince people you are right instead complaining that Dropteam isnt what you thought it would be.
  15. right now they are much more than missle and arty defense because they shoot down longish range direct fire projectiles. I hope they stay similar to or the same as they are now. I am arguing againast dark-au in fear that he is convincing many people or the developers (But i dont think either is the case)
  16. Thakns again Yurch. Thanks yllamana for bringing up castles, they seem the perfect analogy for ion turrets. The real #1 rule of combat, if it is the #1 rule would be "dont be seen when not not in a castle or under an ion tower" it is often better that the thors under ion tower are seen to keep attackers somewhat pinned and very destracted. those circleing for the kill while out of the umberella should be sneaky for suprise. In all player aimed shooting games i have played an eaqually good #1 rule is to always have overwhelming fire power. In drop team this is hard until more human play at a time but stilt works. I virtually never see groups of three or more vehicles sticking together in this game, but when they do I dont think they need to stay hidden most of the time. Unless the enemy is similarly well coordinated i believe that the group will beat any dribled on attack against it and quickly "repair" damage. Because of point defense and weaker than modern arty/airpower the main modern reason to avoid large compact groups is gone. infact it is additionally encouraged because it allows more safe heavy weapons for the same amount hermes coverage. With a big group you will be throwing around so much fire that galaxies bases and hermes are all mostly ineffective because they will be overwhelmed or destroyed. Dark-au,you say point defenses encourage people sniping at long range under AAD? I only half agree, so i strongle dissagree with your point. only the ion tower is worth sitting under in the open for long range sniping. If both teams practice long range snipping in equal ammounts (same numbers of players? with attackers snipping for hull down with hermes and galaxys and defender sinping from hull down in base with galaxy when ion is overwhelmed the attackers will lose because no aad is as good as the ion tower. It shoots more and last much longer than the occasional galaxy. the tactics of using the terrain while moving is not at all made not worthwhile by aad, I dont believe it even lessens its effectiveness. I think the ion tower and galaxies 120mm shooting primarilly makes it so the attacker cannot win through long range firepower on the base. to me this is a good thing. To take that base defended by hull down thors under an ion tower I believe you will need use cover to close assault it with mostly 20mm units and inf. otherwise it seems to me defenders and attackers are playing basically the same game. Having castle like ion towers gives noobs something to be successful with. most internet game players have not played a game so realistic. the bases give these players an area where they can mostly simply move into LOS and practice gunnery while significantly helping their team and somewhat forcing the enemy to use more interesting tactics and more thorough coordination. And as I said before but noone responded, games like this need stationary objectives. right? If this was a deathmatch or team deathmatch it wouldne make sense or be much fun and i wouldnt play. without stationary objectives a battlefield doesnt make sense. why would people fight over a civilian town or wilderness. If the stationary objectives dont have as good a defense as a mobile unit 9as in if it was anti arty/missle only but without sensor jammers then nobody would stay in that base. stationary objectives need to have defenders very near them for them to be fun to take. the castle like ion tower gives a good reason to stay where the enemy know approximately where you are. and if the maps ever get nearly as big as the engine allows (1000 sq km) we need stationary objectives to focus fighting and i want the stationary defenses to be manned, not simply a game of tag with a stationary tag zone (like it would be without ion shooting 120mm, people would caprute facilitie and leave to where it is safer, cap again if enemy takes it back).   17. none of your analogies are applicable. these arnt modern ap rounds. I dont want ap to start getting one jhit kills on light vehicles because that would make them too easy to kill at long range. the speed advantage doesnt help much against ap because it goes so fast. I like that you need to hit the engine with ap before blowing it up with heat.

    I want the AAD towers to continue shooting at atleast 120mm becasue otherwise the bases are simply more powerful sturdy hermes that cant move. I dont believe is should be an even fight between two equal groups of direct fire weapons when both are in the open at long range but one is in a friendly base (under an Laser/ion Tower). Modern warefare has largely elimanated the idea of nonmobile bases (walls get flattened too fast) but game levels need bases. The ion towers give a reasonably explainable way to have important hard to take stationary bases. Without Ion Towers shooting 120mm i think staying in a base vs haveing your group supported by a hermes will be a disadvantage instead of an advantage because they will know where to find you and the hull down spots are usually more limited than on a hill crest.

    When you say "tactically sound" you mean tactically sound for a moderncombat situation, right? Im not interested in modern combat right now. Too single shot kill, extreme range, and uber artiller and air support (too much for fun firstperson playing, not too much for fun combat mission). This game doesnt simulate modern combat but fictional far future combat. In the enviroment simulated defending an open ground inf crossing with a Galaxy does seem to be tactically sound. Dark_au if you want to make a mod which simulated modern combat i'de be happy to try it. I would not pay 40 dollars for it as I happily paid for Dropteam. I imagine all three were firing atgm arty or 120mm?

  22. the shrikes have lots of dead space in them. I now always use ap 120mm on shrikes (or he at very short range) and it tears them up pretty well, with a good amount of one hit kills. aim at front or behind the middledead center and a little ahead are most dead space i think.

It would be great if there were an expandable or collapsible stats page that gives, amoung other things, the gravity and atmospheric pressure. other things... something which tells you the vehicles you have dropped and what damage they took. dropships lost while following you order. turrets dropped and lost. a stat and info page for all other players which is updated after a long enough delay that people cant use it to see what damage they have done? the
  24. i am also very interested in trying some kind of dropship limited senerio, preferably with the delay after limit, not the cut off limit. Ive always felt it odd that the dropships are despossible compared to the vehicle. i know it costs my team points, but i have never treally minded my dropship blowing up after the drop. The dropships look and seem more expensive than vehicles.
