  1. I ran COS on XP using dosbox without any drama, but after a few days play, found myself moving back to SC1. Slapaho, you're right, most of the old games are not as good as they are remembered. I guess that's why you can now get them for nuthn.
  2. My 3 cents... It's not the issue of tiles or hexes per se. It's the damn eye candy effect of the isometric view. If there was a top down view option/ toggle that dispensed with all the bitmap b.s, then frankly I wouldn't give a hoot if the game grid was interlocking circles! My disappointment lies, in ramping up min. hardware requirements for ditzy, quick-to-get-tiresome, bitmaps when the cpu should be smoking over edwin's a.i. scenario scripting.
  3. Pzgndr, Perhaps you did'nt see my question at Wargamer forum, but it would appear that you are well placed to give an unbiased appraisal of the pros and cons of some of the games just out or about to come out. I'm starting to get my head around AGW, at the moment, and I must say it feels like the board games of old. Perhaps I'm a bit nostalgic, in that I am prepared to accept some initial eccentricities for what should turn out to be a pretty good game. Non-Disclosure agreements aside, is there anything you can comment on from what you have seen. And that given that all regular contributors to this forum will be buying SC2 anyway, what would you be suggesting while we wait...

  5. @Jombee, check out the screenshot differences between AGW & TFB. On clarity of graphics, I'd go AGW, on interface, (ie. Tiller), probably TFB. Also AGW does not have tcp/ip option only pbem, so that may also be a deal breaker for some.
  6. @Konigs, Still waiting for the arrival, but I'll keep you posted. I hope it's not too bogged down in diplomacy, tech, building etc... If I wanted a game like that I'd keep playing Civ II. I assume that it once a player departs from historical moves or strategies the A.I (C.O), will react accordingly; ie. non-historical outcomes...
  7. Well I ordered AGW last week, and it should be arriving any day now. I chose this over TFB, as I already have a couple of HPS games and wanted to diversify a little. Why AGW? 1. Hexes 2. Devoted fan base from previous release, and responsive developer and patch history. 3. Unit graphics look old school, which appealed! 4. Looks like a board game, (I'm getting tired of what appears to be a graphical convergence of games into a single icon type- where the only difference is the game engine and interface. 5. Couldn't wait for SC2. (will still get it anyway). 6. The developer's website: -design philosophy also appealed Once I get a handle on the game, I'll give some comment if requested... regards A.S.
  8. In no particular order... Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Bertolt Brecht Martin Heidegger Walter Benjamin Karl Friedrich Schinkel Frei Otto
  9. @Harry. Probably can't make bowls night, although regularly cycle past on way to RMIT. I'll be busy getting lectures ready. I hope you get a good turn out. I have always found grognards a fairly solitary lot! (myself included). Last time our paths crossed, some 2+ years ago you kicked my arse when my german squads ran into a church and were promptly mown down by all your ruskis. Don't think I ever got over it. Grew attached to those little dudes sneaking around in the hills; a bit like 'The Sims-WWII'! I'm currently awaiting "Anglo-German War" from schwerpunkt, any day now. and that's going to distract me for a month or two. But as the days begin to darken and the temperature drops, I might dust off the CMBB disks and get setup for some more kick arse. ...kids are well, too young for hotseat play! ...good to see you managed to get a computer. I hope this one is permanent!

  13. any chance the 'Tactics II scenario' will ship with finished product or be available in a scenario pool? Will battlefront host a location for mods and scenarios? or will it be relying on 3rd party sites?
  14. Hello Melbourne Gamers, anyone in this thread dabble in any of the following games? HPS-Tobruk HPS-Normandy Schwerpunkt-AGW SC-1 Tacops CMBB (p'raps) I'm tired of trying to tee up a game with people in incompatible time zones. I reside in Reservoir Central Time I know this is an AK thread, but figured most on this list may also play maps as well as minatures.
  15. J.J. If I'm playing Hogan(Allies), then Klink get -3! Burkhalter gets a 2 Schultz gets a 0 and Klinks secretary get a "Va Va Voom"!
  16. The key question I need to know here is what value will I assign my Colonel Klink HQ?

  19. Hey C.T. I'm just lurking 'round waiting for '2 to arrive...not sure I'm worthy of a "wow" but thanks anyways. I've been whiling away the hours playing some tacops and panzer campaigns, (tobruk and normandy). hope all is well in your part of the world. regards A.
  20. Just chill B.L. Everybody, who reads all this junk quickly realises that Kuni is a little queer! (queer = strange)
  21. "we'll drink a toast to auld lang syme!" look forward to playing against some of you in 2006 regards A.S
  22. Edwin, When this game is finally released, I really look forward to playing your heavily scripted customised scenario's. Have you got any in mind? ...and could you please let me know what the minimum hardware specs. I'll need to run them! regards A.S.
  23. Thanks yet again for the definitive answer Major, for a moment or 2 I was hoping colours other than blue could have been used. as an aside...have you ever had someone who might be colour-blind use tacops? Is red/blue an issue?
