  1. How much "elite" can a brigade still be, after it was reformed for the third time?

"The 155th brigade already had to be restaffed three times. The first time after Irpin and Bucha; the second time they were defeated near Donetsk. Now almost the entire brigade has already been destroyed near Vuhledar,"Colonel Dmytrashkovsky told Politico.

They make thru winter with flying colors, fuel storage still half full, and THEN they want to surrender?

And yes I got this from Desert Fox's post above, but I thought it was clearer to repost the original tweet.

I doubt the UK is in with that. For France and Germany I fully believe it. They are after cheap russian Gas and Uranium.

REUTERS: Ukraine's Zelensky says he plans to meet China's Xi
Zelensky on Friday welcomed some elements of a Chinese proposal for a ceasefire in Russia's war on Ukraine.

I wonder what gifts they will exchange? Xi, a chunk of Russian coal; Zelensky a scale model of a M142 HIMARS?

    Hmm...

President Emmanuel Macron of France and Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he needed to start considering peace talks with Moscow when the three leaders met in Paris earlier this month, people familiar with the conversation said.

Ah, yes, I should've been more clear.  "in the field" meant all the pieces that go into having a trained & supplied and operational battalion sized unit, ready for battle w proper logistics tail.  Delivery & crew training could be happening but maintenence & logistics systems need to be set up in theater.

Actually all this needs to be properly integrated in a brigade structure with mech.inf, arty and all the other logistic and support units. IIRC there will be two (?) new mech brigades formed. One with Leo IIs and the other with Leo 1A5s. Dunno about the timelines but don´t expect them to be operational before june. Maybe one of our ukrainian friends on this board has further details?

I am guessing these would be in the field late summer at the earliest?  Delivery, crew & maintenence training, logistics, unit training.

Supposed to be end of March. They pull them from existing Btls. Ukrainian troops are getting training already at german armour school (KTS2) in Munster, Lower Saxony. As soon as the crews are ready they can go to Ukraine. Next step then will be Gefechtstraining (battletraining) on Kp and Btl. level as well as combined arms coordination with mech inf.

I think it is more of the reverse. The Germans in the last days of WW2 were convinced they were the master race and by fighting to the end, they were defending their self-image of superior beings (also, were trying to defend civilians against revenge from Soviets and were subject to draconian discipline with a lot of people executed for desertion, rightly or wrongly in the chaos of disintegrating front).  On the other hand, Russian soldiers who go to the front in the Ukraine seem already halfway convinced they will die because of the stupidity of their commanders, lack of supplies, defective weapons, etc. which they consider a fact of life with which they are not particularly bothered.

Sure, that is equally possible. Be it as it may, the likelihood to see some kind of "revolution" against the ruling system driven from within the majority of the people is slim, to say the least. IMHO of course.

I had expected some amount of public unrest plus unhappy elites would have produced a noticeable change in the Kremlin.  Not necessarily an outright replacement for Putin, but something that pushed him to end the war instead of doubling down on it.

No, I think the standard Ivan has about the same psyche as the standard Fritz had in 1945. There would never have been any rebellion against the Nazi regime back then either, simply because the people were that indoctrinated that they really believed in their leadership or simply didn´t care except for their close relatives. I guess you have the same phenomenon in Russia. More or less autocratic regime with a deeply rooted obedience factor printed into the "normal" peoples mind since the Tzar. It will take generations (50 years at least) to get them to something like a western democracy. Key factor will be personal benefit. If they don´t see that, they will never start thinking in western terms.
