  1. Hi friends,

Here´s a question that occupies me because I never saw that the Hellcats opened fire on the Tiger first, but targeted the Stugs first. After I opened fire with my Tiger one or 2 Hellcats "switched" to the Tiger. That way I lost my Stug first, then I brewed up 2 Hellcats with my Tiger while several shells broke on his front turret armour and then I got my final shot which finished me off by the last Hellcat.

Does the enemy AI calculate something like a order of threats when it has e.g. 2 opposing tanks to fight? Let´s say one tank is a Tiger the other is a PzIII. Does the AI choose the greatest threat (Tiger) or is it just targetting randomly?

If it is targeting randomly wouldn´t it be nice to implement (if it´s not already there) an order of threats the AI has to fight first, I mean in real live (Leopard 2) we were trained to knock out T-64 > T-72 > BMP (if you can imagine why)?

    3. Due to the efforts of our German colleagues ALL funny names and jokey references will be removed for the German names. Who said Germans have no sense of humour?

    -----------------------------------

    Fionn,

Indeed we have no humour at all (G)

Seriously, thanks for your efforts to take the burden to do all this name work.

  5. Nope friends,

Panzer in Normandy by Eric Lefevre isn´t the origin of this rocket-story. I have it in my hands here. It states about the turett picture:

Quote: " The remains of Wittmann´s "007" near Gaumesnil, blasted apart by the combined efforts of five Shermans. Detailed local research early in 1981 enabled Jean Paul Pallud to produce the sketch plan (opposite) and to pinpoint the exact spot (below left), confirmed by fragments of steel and glass, where Wittmann and his crew met their deaths." End of Quote

You see Eric Lefevre isn´t responsible for the rocket-story. Who else? Who knows where this rocket-story has its origin?

  6. Friends,

Before you start up a debate who killed him and who not. I´d like to carefully advise you to only rely on what IS written AND made save by either eyewittness accounts or documents.

In this case we have 2 eyewittnesses (the doctor of sPzAbt(SS)101 and the Tiger commander who was next to Wittmanns left, who both state concurringly that Wittmann´s tank (007 since Wittmann was CO of the Abteilung) was hit by cannonfire, the tank started to smoke and the turret was where it should be. Some minutes later the fire lead to an explosion of the tank, blowing the turret off (some 5-10m behind the tank). Furthermore this wasn´t the only tank which brewed up that day. All Tigers which attacked on the right on the GRAMESNIL side of the road where knocked out. It is extremely sure that all these tanks got hits in their right flank from the Gramesnil area.

All this and a little more you can read in Patrick Agte´s book about the sPzAbt(SS)101. This is what the facts say. All else is speculation.

P.S. Fionn would you mind to send me the Photo with a big red circle around what you presume to be the impact hole of a rocket?

  7. To read first hand accounts from the regimental/bataillon level these 2 autobiographic works make excellent reading:

1.) Hans von Luck "Panzer Commander" 21st Panzerdivision

2.) Helmut Ritgen "Westfront 1944" PanzerLehr Division

To get a more complete view about a certain theather I really like:

3.) Michael Reynolds "Steel Inferno" 1st SS PanzerKorps in Normandy

4.) Michael Reynolds "Devils Adjudant" KG Peiper as the Spearhead of 1st SS Panzerkorps during the Battle of the Bulge

and to read a very good researched book about a well known person and the unit he belonged to, I´d like to recommend

5.) Patrick Agte "Michael Wittmann and the Tigers of schwere Panzerabteilung 101"

  8. My two cents as a german gamer to this matter:

*** As I stated in an email Mattias Hitler and Himmler were common names in their respective regions of birth and would have been present throughout the German army. ***

If you let these uncommon and very infamous names in the game IMO that will show a first hand account of tastelessness. It will be the same as if a Mr. Josef Mengele will show up in a game about medical ethics. You don´t really want this game to be regarded tasteless, want you?

To get more common/harmless names in the game would be the better way. IMO

  9. Hey guys (Hallo Leute)

To clarify this: (Um das hier richtigzustellen)

1.) I am from Germany (Ich bin aus Deutschland)

2.) There is no animal known which is called Schwein(e)hund, especially not in Germany (Es ist kein Tier namens Schwein(e)hund bekannt, insbesondere nicht in Deutschland) (G)

3.) Schweinehund is a swearword, but as Fionn stated, it´s allowed and intended to have fun with this game (Schweinehund ist ein Schimpfwort, aber wie Fionn sagte, es ist erlaubt und beabsichtigt mit diesem Spiel Spaß zu haben)

Ich hoffe das reicht euch als Erklärung (I hope you are satisfied with this explanations)

Have a nuke free day (Einen atomwaffenfreien Tag wünsche ich)
