  1. How did 130 men hold off 4000 zulu at Rorke's Drift? Get yourself an engineer unit and make it the commander. lol
  2. {{My objection is that people are unable to leave it at "rubs me the wrong way." They feel compelled to denigrate the RTS genre and everyone who plays them with their snide commentary of "twitch kiddies" "he who clicks fastest wins" etc etc.}} When the shoe fits, wear it. {{We're a partner of Direct2Drive, and we also have firm plans to release the game in retail, too. Martin }} That's good Martin, the game should do well then providing the mainstream review mags and websites see it as a good game. Even if many of your old die hard grogs won't be buying it. Stick with turn based or wego and we'll follow you to doomsday. Now to futher shoot the breeze. You know what I'm seeing guys (my grogier friends out there). This move away from us after we support a company and get them on their feet, then they desert us for more "mainstream" games and sales. Take for example Creative Assembly and the Total War series. Now, you don't find an awful lot of grogs that didn't enjoy Shogun and MTW origional and their expansions. But, look what CA did to us with Rome Total Crap War!! They turned it into a kiddiefied strategy game and combat kiddie clickfest of a game. Took our hard earned money made some excellent bucks off of us, then TURNED on us like we were maggots on dung. Example II, though this is not a wargame, the series has been a highly acclaimed ROLE PLAYING series since they first released ARENA, then came Daggerfall and Morrowind, all 3 excellent "role playing" games for the die hard role players out there. THEN they come out with this crap ACTION RPG game called Oblivion and has mainstream mini fricking games to play to build up your skills lol. Real time combat based on a FPSer type of engine and gone are the role playing elements that made the series so popular. Once again another company that lived and thrived on the hard core fans to build it up some clout and then abaondoned them just like that. Now we have CMX2 (yeah I'm gonna bust on them too) A flippin modern day "module" that 1/2 their fan base doesn't even want and it's going to be REAL TIME ALSO....but, you can play it in turns if you want to. Well to me this reeks of Oblivion once again. Created for the console first and then ported over to the PC. I have an awful bad feeling having real time elements in the game the turn based part is going to be...OH BUT WE MEANT YOU CAN "PAUSE" the game, we didn't really mean it plays like a WEGO game...sorry for the confusion.! yeah right. Once again though we the hard-core filled their pockets and then they TURN on us like this and making something completely off the wall that nobody wants. (well I don't want it ain't buyin it either. I'll show them. hahaha Example IV: Good ole "Lords of the Realms" what a pos crap game LOR III turned out to be eh? From two previous versions we all loved to some craptastic real time bs everyone hated. And this movement just seems to keep growing. I won't be surprised if Mad Minute Games isn't bitten by the hey lets turn this into a REAL TIME KIDDIE CLICKFEST and we'll sell thousands of copies on the mainstream market. Mark my words I wrote them here today. MAD MINUTE will screw you in the long run also. Lol I know they will cause they want to quit their regular jobs and do this fulltime for a living. Welp, to make the big bucks yah gotta go mainstream and that means crapola for us hard-core gamers out here. Gaming and games was so much better when all these little guys remained little guys and worked out of their basements or garages and we reaped these rewards in the 80's and 90's. But, then the money bug bit most of them and now, now we get WARCRAFT III lol. And 1000 other clones of DUNE. lol And soon breaking thru the doorway of mainstream sales.dah dah dah dat dah daaaaaah.... TOW. [ August 10, 2006, 03:35 PM: Message edited by: Kellysheroes ]
  3. {{I just had to put in my 2 cents as the complaining does get tiresome. Let's wait for the game PLAY to get a final judgement}} It's too late then by waiting to play it, you've invested your money only to find out it doesn't have the features it needs. No refunds no returns has caused this nature in people to expect a FULL game instead of some half baked game. That will have the additional features in another sequel. Might just as well wait for the sequel then and get ALL the game for ONE price.
  4. The biggest issue with rts games is there isn't much strategy to them as there is he who can click the fastest and jackoff the quickest. VS turn based there it is pure intelligence and strategy & tactics knowledge that will win the day. Commanders didn't play rts when they moved their little flags around on the big maps during WWII, although time was a factor, rts games move real time too fast. Now, if they want to give us second by second and minute by minute movement and action I'll be all for rts games. Until then they are just kiddie clickfest games and as someone stated above only really for the mainstream customers and will turn off the more grogier hard-core wargamer in a heartbeat (the majority of them anyway, some are traitors and benedict arnolds of course and play rts games as well). Personally I've always felt if you're going to put PAUSE in an RTS game, you might just as well have made it turn based or wego in the first place. People are already arguing about whether pause should be allow in MP games. In turn based games you don't have that sort of arguing. {quoted} I think BF and 1C games really want this to be a big public hit, and also want it appeal to the mainstream public instead of just the pure-diehards grogs. By being a direct download only or thru snail mail this game isn't going to come close to being exposed to the "mainstream public" who buy their games in brick n mortar stores or thru direct 2 drive. If BF want the mainstream to see and buy this game they better think about going retail or making some kind of a deal with Direct 2 Drive. 5. Will the AI adjust to map edge movement as was so easily done to exploit the AI in other games I've played CM included? Just as a test this was something I did with the CM series and only CMAK ever adjusted for this in the "setup". Of course these were random maps and using the quick battle generator. Now, I'm even more concerned with "scripted" scenarios since there's no way they can be adjusted in the setup. Or can they? Please enlighten. 6. Think of us wartime veterans with only one arm.
  7. {{In view of raging arguments going on about whether or not Pause should be allowed in MP}} Pause is part of the game, therefore pause should be used in MP, else you just turn the game into another kiddiefied clickfest RTS game.
  8. Hi, Ok first off I really hate RTS games, 2ndly I hate rts games that are pauseable. But, if the game has to be rts and pauseable I request a "right click mouse button pause feature". I'ma lazy gamer I want to do everything with my mouse, most especially if playing an RTS clickfest game. Anyway to implement this or allow for player control settings to setup the rmb to pause the game????
  9. [[and we will try and identify the top 5 or top 10 additions/changes to work on based on our experience from the CM games to make this game as realistic as it can be]] Please please please include entering buildings and floor levels. I really enjoy most placing a unit in the church tower like in Saving Pvt Ryan and then mourning in agony as some tank blows my unit to smithereens out of it.
  10. "What Have They Done to the Game" (sung to the tune of What have they done to the Rain) Just a little boy waiting for a game a game that never comes....for yearssss and the game is late...the boy disappears and the game keeps taking count-less years Oh What have they done to the game? Just a little girl standing in the rain the gentle rain that falls for years and the grass is grey...the girl disappears she ran off with the boy full of tears oh what have they done to the game? lol Just a little baby sitting in the rain the horrid rain that falls on himmm and the grass is gold....his diaper is wet this is what happens when game releases aren't met Oh why did the game take sooooooo longgggg! lol Just an ole man an woman lying in the rain the last rain for them for yearssss and the grass is green...the graves deep and wet never having played CMC ever yet Oh what have they done to the damn game??
  11. [The only satisfaction I would get from that game is playing the Syrians and trying to blow up the Stryker tax wasting POS's. ] lol but is that worth $30-$40 to you???
  12. Yup the game only takes 2 to 5 months to make, putting the graphics in takes 3 years or more. lol
  13. I was under the impression that they fixed the auto resolve in RTW with patch 1.5? I remember reading on the official forum some people commenting about how it was better much better than the vanilla version out of the box. It also adjusts to the difficulty level you are playing so on hard and very hard you can expect higher casualties than on normal or easy using auto calc. I do agree though the actual hands on battle AI is pathetic, even after patch 1.5 I can take 2000 men and beat 4000 and lose less than 100 men lol.
  14. America would blow China off the map in less than a week. Few nukes here, few nukes there and china is spread out everywhere.
  15. You know I remember the day when one and myself used to just buy whatever I saw on the shelves at the local gaming store. Never had forums back then and never had we are making this and that comments. Even as I looked thru my old computer gaming magazines you only got information on what was new and released. Maybe we need to go back to that time and there will be less frustrations and headaches. But, that also was a time when new games and wargames were coming out every other month as well. Now, they seem so far apart, too many years to develop. 2-5 years to make ONE game is just silly. We need those 2-5 month games again. Course the bad thing for Battlefront and other online only type purchasing game companies is they lose business by not being on store shelves. I forget how long Combat Mission had been out before I even heard of it. Same for the Total War series games of Shogun and Medieval and their offspring. By the time I really noticed them they were already bargain bin priced at Software Etc. But, those were another story, they had the horrible background of RTS game on them and you couldn't get me to buy an RTS game for a retail price if you gave me the money and still gave me a choice. But, now since they broadcast on these webpages what are in the works. Days seem like weeks and weeks seem like months and months seem like years and years seem like decades and then after years and years and then the release and the game is a complete flop one really feels let down and used and abused for the almighty $$. I'm not interested in "Shock Wave" (hehe) by any means. I won't be buying it and only CMC has my attention from Battlefront atm. I find that other companies are getting too far away from their "roots", things that made them what they are, forgetting the customers who supported them year after year game after game and turning aside those devoted to make something "out of this world (space lobsters or whatever). Triumph Studios makers of the Age of Wonders Series is now turning to some crappy real time cartoon fest of an rpg/RTS/wargame "think Titans or Myth" more or less instead of sticking with what got them their money in the first place. Developers are like children, you FEED them, CLOTHE them, give them SHELTER and then they go and turn on you eventually as they get older (with more money in their pockets). They shoot the finger at mom and pop and storm out the door to "do their own thang". haha Yah know what's funny about this normal social standard? When they get their BUTT's in a crack who do they usually coma a runnin to?
  16. Anything pre Korea would be fine. Anything after that and it's WWII or bust for me. I mean think about it how can you play hypothetical warfare? The cold war war never happened, so, there's no history to go buy only speculation. Vietnam was nothing more than a stalemate, the US troups hands were tied and clearly anyone could see had they been untied it would have been over in a few weeks instead of the grueling wasted life years that it lasted. And playing something like Desert Storm would be just another overkill type of game. There's just no power that can compare to the American forces and equipment now to make for a challenging game. Strictly just overkill games where only making some stifling rules up to give the weak side half a chance. Syria would be over-run within a week in a real situation so I see no reason to make a $40 game about it.
  17. I'm getting Sid Meiers "Railroads" if this game doesn't come out soon (which I think it's vaporware now taking too long). Ole Sid never lets us down when he says something is coming it comes and when he says it will. I'm becoming discouraged by Matrixgames and Battlefront these days. I see a lot of "air talk", but, not much in solid production. (taking too long from when they tell us about something).
  18. I'm beginning to think this was all a ruse and this is vaporware. You all know about "Combat Leader" that Matrixgames was supposed to be doing. I think sometimes publishers just throw a bone out there with no meat on it and then never come thru with the canned dog food.
  19. Shock Force is such a wasted effort. Many of us aren't going to buy it. I still don't understand why they had to make it first. They will sell 1000's more copies of a WWII module than they ever will Shock crap Force. IHMO.
  20. The best thing about SC2 over any of the Paradox games is that you can PBEM against a real opponent even if the ai in both of them aren't very good. Paradox games you have to play over isp and everyone has to be present at a specific time. History has shown if a game can't be played in a hour or two many people lose interest and quit. PBEM games it's a rarity to get a quitter at least for me. Really the best thing about all turn based games of any calibur is the ability to PBEM. TO me it IS the way to play against others around the globe and the best method. That right there sold me on the SC series and all HPS games and Matrixgames. Granted the detail in the HOI games far surpasses any others, but, when you are restricted to playing against the ai 99.9% of the time it nullifies it as being the best game on the market for grand scale wwii play. I also would suggest to some of you trying out Ron Dockals Anglo German War, while not really being a grand scalelike wwii game it does well at linking many scenarios in order and it's a beautiful game, though it does have it's interface flaws that many cannot handle or overcome. It's like going back in the ages, but, if you can get by the interface it's one of the most fun games to play and the ai isn't bad on pure land based battles, but, forget any invasion type scenarios playing against the ai unless you are doing the invading.
  21. If only they had added one more option in the quick battles setup. The # of Victory point Flags. From my play and observance I don't notice the AI beating me to the Flags very often in a ME. I even start at the back of the map and don't organize my units except for making sure everyone is in command control of their HQ's. And getting them out of immovable terrain. This last battle I had was quite fun the AI over-ran my right flank like it was toilet paper. I did everything I could to hold that flag, but, they killed 90% of my forces and had taken another victory point flag in this particular ME game that favored their position (I couldn't reach it in time to hold or take it). I still had the main objective flag in the center and of course the AI made it's banzai attacks on it piecemeal the last few turns of the game and was cut to pieces. But, it did neutralize the flag and I didn't get victory points for it at end game. Clearly it didn't have to advance on this flag it was ahead in points with two minor flags though my morale was a tad bit higher than theirs. By the end of the battle using a 30+ turn setting it resulted in a minor victory for myself. It should have been a minor for the German AI had it just held its ground and forced me to advance to gain victory points. When I play with the AI on defense it is one tough nut to crack with the settings I use. Infantry guns well placed just cut me to pieces as I try to advance on some of the objective flags. But, even so, even when it's on defense those last few turns if I have taken an objective flag(s) here they come out of their "entrenched" positions (even when they are ahead) and try to take that flag(s) back. Thus causing them to lose or the outcome a draw. Even so though the battles are quite fun and challenging. An overlooking the victory conditions the rest of the gameplay is fun and challenging up until the final few turns. It plays a decent game with decent settings of course in its favor. I just look at it like this though. There were times when less than crack or veteran organizations came upon crack and veteran opponents and had to figure out ways to overcome the odds and experience. So, I just happend to play these types of meetings often instead of looking for a balanced game like chess. Playing against a human opponent can be quite the same as playing a lame ai. I've played countless human opponents who didn't give me as much challenge as the AI did. Obviously winning all the time isn't any more fun than losing all the time. When playing human opponents even that takes time to find someone challening to your level of play. Not to mention the time required to put into a game with a human, getting the times set, waiting for them to deal with family matters or them taking weeks to resend a PBEM game turn. At least the game AI is always ready to play when you are and doesn't have to stop the baby from crying or let the dog out. I'm pretty sure with "Campaigns" I will be able to find an optimum setup for the AI to have very challenging games time after time. I've done it with all the Combat Mission series so far I don't think this one will thwart me. And if you're looking for a challenging game against the AI for a campaign game of CMAK get the Wacth am Rhein(sp)campaign download. Oh man did I get smoked my first time playing it. Nobody told me the Ai was going to attack my rear FLAGS! lol This campaign is a armored players nightmare. (it's why I like just mostly infantry battles)
  22. Well speak for yourself PSK for I get very challenging games out of the AI and not by giving the ai TONS of advantages. I give it 10% more units and a +2 experience level and I play all kinds of quick battles including meeting engagements, assaults and defense. The key to a good battle against the ai is "time" If you play long games the ai is more than likely going to lose. But, if you play around 30 to 35 turn games against it even though it does have this "get ALL flags" tendency the lower the amount of turns the better chances it has of winning. Most of the games I play and setup for quick battles end up in "draws" or "minor victories" either for myself or occassionally for the AI. I'm happy with this for challenge. Though I certainly would like to see the AI not be so flag happy because that is where most of it's units end up getting killed or wiped out. The steady stream like Picketts charge at Gettysburg trying to take that hill with my 10000 men just waiting to pick them off 1 x 1. lol One thing about its flag happiness is that it can keep me from getting that flags victory points by neutralizing the flag even at great losses of units. I play a lot of just infantry battles with around 2000pts and these are great fun and challenge without tanks or infantry guns just pure infantry a few machine guns and some mortars. Most of my battles are AI German Crack/Veterans paratroupers vs British/USA Regulars/Green infantry reserves. Great fun. Now in answer to your question: Why at all bother with the AI?? Because the majority of people buying and playing these games play them solo. Yes, you may not want to believe or accept this, but, time and time again polls have shown that solo/single player play vs the AI is what sells more of the games than any multiplayer feature in any of them. I've played some pbem games of this series, but, I've certainly played more solo/single player games of it than I ever would multiplayer. I'm certain most out there have done the same.
  23. Awwwww I wanted smoke coming out of those barrels!! Awwwwww What a ripoff.
  24. I have a question. How many more units are we looking at moving per turn than we did in SC1? This game looks like one of those huge monster games like WitP after looking at the screen shots. So, I'm wanting to know how many more units per side vs SC1 and about how long each turn takes early/middle/late game? Thank you
  25. There is a beast within all of us, forums just give a way of releasing it from time to time.
