  1. Hi! For some strange reason I'm feeling quite ambitious/bored today. I don't feel getting slaughtered in CM and I don't know how to make scenario's. So I thought why not create some sort of gameplay FAQ, like the one from CMBB, which was really useful for me.

Now I also realise that just because I'm bored now, doesn't mean I will be bored tomorrow and that basically I won't be able to do this on my own. So I'm looking for people who might be interested to help.

The kind of questions I hope to answer are things like "How do I play PBEM", "What is abstracted and what not". I will put everything together in a .txt file.

So if enough (maybe around 2-4) want in, please pm or send me an email (please put "CMSF FAQ" in the subject) and we can start by figuring out the details.

Hopefully we can create something useful :)

  2. Yes. But as I said in the post I started this thread with, my questioning is about the Army JTAC's not-quite-optimal connection to air assets vis-a-vis the Marines FCT's consistent big-"+" connection, rather than the promptness and accuracy of the support mission itself. Having the spotter -- whether JTAC or FST or whatever -- in an unbuttoned BFIST or FSV will yield the best results overall, but what I'm wondering about is why a JTAC never has connection to air assets as good as the FCT's connection. By the way, thanks for the detailed info in that regard, akd.

Even a unit with small-"x" comms to an air asset can get good results. For example, in the first mission of the Marines campaign, my SEALs can consistently get the on-station CAS to drop a bomb right on the static T-54 (the SEALs' Elite experience level may have something to do with that, though), even though their connection to the CAS is just small-"x" level and thus it takes a while for the JDAM to arrive.

Oops my bad. Btw did you ever see the difference between the delays? Or does the "+" already reflect this? Just curious.

  3. My initial in-editor testing showed no improvement in connection to the air assets when in an FS3-equipped vehicle, whether an M7A3 Bradley BFIST or an M1131 Stryker FSV.

According to my limited understanding of the technology involved (and according to what the CMSF manual says about it), a spotter -- whether a Forward Observer team for artillery or a JTAC/FAC for air support -- in an FS3-equipped vehicle gains improved capability to spot targets and coordinate the support, whether air or artillery. According to the v1.11 game manual:

However, being in an FS3-equipped vehicle yields no concrete improvement in connection to air assets. In other words, a JTAC in a BFIST still has just small "+" comms to aircraft. Still, having your JTAC or FO in a BFIST (or FSV) is best, since the spotter will have the best view and targeting capability available.

According to the "Version 1.11 Feature List" thread, a BFIST or FSV must be unbuttoned for the on-board spotter to use the FS3.

Have you tried putting a JTAC team inside the BFIST or FSV and then unbuttoning them?

I recall that delays were shorter for artillery missions than when they're outside the vehicle, but I don't know if that's the case for air missions. Oh and select the JTAC team instead of the vehicle.

  4. I don't believe this is a true statement. Given that the ballistic path of a bullets and shells are tracked the soldier that is laying above the ground in a shell scrape is treated differently than one that is dug into a hole that covers the majority of his body with dirt.

I would like to be told I am wrong by Steve though.

I would also like to know if the fallback foxholes, etc will be supported in Normandy. And if they can be placed by the defender during setup.

AIUI the ballistic tracking thing only applies to vehicles. For infantry there is still some abstractions.

  6. During a night urban, RedVsRed scenario, I had 3 BMP parked on the same way along a large road. They were aligned and separated by 100m...

A T-72M1 came at 500m on that road and performed a hat trick in a single shot

I had something similar happen to me. I made a night battle of "Allah's Fist", playing as the reds I moved my tanks across the short side of the map, only to see two tanks who were riding next to each other impaled by a M1 about 1500m away (from Blue set up zone)!!

  7. Sometimes people who want help don't really want it until they've had a chance to throw a tantrum. Not very helpful to their cause, but hey... all we can do is try to help people despite themselves.

BTW, I'm nearly positive the email that has the eLicense code says quite specifically to not lose it. It's been a long time since I've actually ordered a product from our website (a perk is direct contact with the warehouse :)) so I could be mistaken. Anybody want to confirm/denny that by looking at one of their own?

    Steve

For digital download it only says to keep the mail for the download link not explicitly for the code. And it wasn't in big bold red letters either.

  8. I think Normandy will illustrate more vividly the complexity of the engine. Now, its one shot one kill/boom and few inbetween. I know there are a LOT of things going on but the overkill capacity of the weapons just dont let them show. With the more frequent use of AP ammo in WW2 and the not so devastating ammunitions, we will experience some lenghty gripping tank duels, with ricochets, gun damages, the ol' death clock etc. I really can't think of a single area of the game that Normandy wont be superior to CMSF. I love the modern setting, with some hardware never seen before in a tactical game but I've already started to count days for D-Day :D

Actually there is quite a lot of in between, although it is harder to notice. My M1s get hit a lot without being knocked out. Going by the exterior of the tank it always seems as if everything is fine, but the damage tab shows a completely different story :).

  9. Its ok, it is faster in XP but even with very high driver settings it was playable in Vista. I didn't get a chance to do major testing but overall I think it is a big improvement. I have a E8400 @ 3.6, 4gigs plus the 285gtx. No longer top of the line but still a high end machine so I'm sure that helps the cause.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give it a try myself tonight. I just hate installing new video drivers.

  10. Leto;1122070']I don't find this sarcasm constructive, nor very helpful to BFC considering you are a beta tester. Do you not want an open discussion for potential customers to tell you what they want?

If not, then state it as such. Snide commentary like this leads people to believe this may be the case.

Their will be feedback good and bad. Their will be people telling you what they want, wishlists and concerns. It's your job to evaluate and use the data, not inject personal bias that is both insulting and unnecessary.

How you react to all this says a lot more about you (and unfortunately the company) than it does about the (majority) of the people posting here.

    Sheesh.

    Cheers!

    Leto

Beta testers don't represent the company. There are a lot of games which host beta trials. No-one ever assumes the speak for the company either.
