  1. I don't care about that. I just want the reaction times to be reasonable and realistic, not silly. I remember a game of CMBO I played several years ago when I first bought the game. I was defending in a QB. An assault HT and two regular HTs were advancing on my position. I had a light ATG fire at the assault HT. I zoomed in close to watch the destruction. I heard the sound of the ATG firing, but before the shell even struck, which it did, the other two HTs were already firing their MGs at my gun. That's simply ludicrous.
  2. If the defending squad would have been attacked and flanked by two full squads, the defending squad would still only be able to fire at one of the attacking squads, yet, you would not have complained, because they were full squads. However, it's still gamey that the defender can't fire at nore than one target. I guess all attacks should now be done at one squad versus one squad. Anything else would be taking advantage of game limitations, and thus, be gamey.
  3. The three squads were all spread across the map. One was at the far left edge, one close to the middle, and the third not far from the second. All were in woods or tall pines. I don't know their quality. Even for upper quality troops, if they were, but I doubt, that's really quick reactions.
  4. I hope CMx2 deals with 'everything that can be spotted will be.' I also hope it deals with how quickly something is spotted. In a pbem I'm playing, I'm the defending Germans in a QB. I had an MG42 in a house unhide and begin firing for the first time in the game, which it did at one second into the action phase. At three seconds, it was taking fire from an enemy squad 300 or so meters away. At six seconds, three squads were firing at it, none closer than 250 meters or so. Pretty amazing, that the Russians would hear an MG firing, freeze or drop down, look in the direction they heard the sound, see the tracers, locate the house, bring weapons to bear, and begin firing, all within 2-5 seconds. Darn! Those Russians are good. BFC, fix or do sumfink. (I never thought I'd ever write that....)
  5. I wanted to mention this as another advantage to splitting squads. With the way BB and AK do unit identification, you'll see infantry squad? and one man icon. As far as you know, it's a full squad. It's so infrequent that you ever reach the ID level to see two or three men icons in the squad, it's a big advantage to split them. I think BFC dropped the ball on this ID level. I've seen it so many times, that you only see one man icon, even in situations where you should obviously see three. I'll never forget the time I had two squads and an MG firing at an enemy full squad in open terrain, 150 meters away, day time and clear skies, but I only saw one man icon for two turns.
  6. I've tried it, too, and enjoyed it. I recommend using the editor to give the men 15 ammo, though. I don't like playing large battles. A company is as much as I like. Playing with snipers, it reminds me of the board game Ambush.
  7. Look at the second post in the CMAK thread entitled: Should I Buy CMAK or Wait?
  8. Thank you very much for the help. Since running both the computer and CM at the same resolution resolved the problem, I'll be running both at 800x600. I would prefer to have the computer at 1024x768, but having CM at that resolution is too small for my less-than 20:20 eyes to see well.
  9. I've been running CM on 800x600 resolution and the computer at 1024x768. I just changed the computer to 800x600 and the problem has been resolved. Why would that make a difference?
  10. I didn't uninstall the old driver first. Won't that give me a blank screen without a driver? DirectX 9.0c installed without any problems. I'm running True Color 1024x768. Something that happened on this new computer that didn't happen on my old, was when I installed the games, I was given the choice of five different 800x600 screen resolutions. There was something that said 'with 100Mhz.' There were four different numbers I could choose. Does that make a difference?
  11. I just installed the new driver you recommended and the problem still exists.
  12. I just installed DirectX 9.0c and the problem still exists.
  13. I have DirectX 9.0b. The drivers are ialmrnt5.dll 6.14.0010.3722
  14. It's war. You killed the enemy and took the objective. You probably saved a lot of lives on your side. You get an A+ in my book, especially if a relative of mine is in your company.
  15. I'm not familiar with the scenario, but I can offer some advice that works in all the CM games. To kill an AT gun, have a mortar in command range of an HQ and use the HQ to spot for the mortar. Do you know how to do that?
  16. Before I got busy with Christmas, I previously posted: I just bought a new computer and installed AK and BB. Everything works fine, but an unusual problem has happened. If I minimize either game, then maximize it to play again, I get a black screen in any game, QB or scenario. I must use CTR ALT DEL to end the game. When I click on the desktop icon to start either game again, it's fine. The games only get the black screen if I minimize, then maximize. An additional problem has arisen since my original post. CMBO won't install. I click the install icon, but nothing happens. Several people responded, asking me questions. 17. I'd like to be able to do exit scenarios as QBs.
  18. It is for that extra 50% that are killed or wounded.
  19. I have the special edition. You can get the extra scenarios online. As far as modding, I do very little, so that disk wouldn't be worth it to me. I don't know which mods are on it, but I would think you could get many of them online, too. I recommend that you not get it.
  20. I'll need to dig out my manual to find what graphics card and drivers are in the PC. What would be a good driver to use and where do I find them?

  22. The computer I currently have, is almost four years old. It's slow and can only be upgraded to 256 megs of RAM. My wife also uses it a lot for typiing projects she does for our church. I'd like to get my own computer, so we can both have our own machines and not get in each other's way.
  23. From what I've seen advertised, the Pentium 4 processor and 512 megs of RAM are pretty standard. I've seen that some machines have the i875 chipset. Is that any good? My old PC had the i810, so I got a better card. Ironically, it was the FX 5200. Still it was a big improvement over the i810. With a new machine, I shouldn't need to change the drivers, should I?
  24. I'm going to be purchasing a new computer. The only games I play are CM. What should I be looking for in graphics card and drivers? Thanks.
