  1. 5 New Things: 1) Ability to select number of rounds fired from Mortar teams. 2) AI keeps its units in foxholes while in defense. 3) Include a built-in mod editor if possible and done in a similar fashion to scenario editor for ease of use. 4) Indicate scenarios previously played in menu by a simple tick if need be. 5) Engine failure on vehicles or Tanks could/would add another dimension to the game. 5 To Stay: 1) PBEM 2) WW2 3) EFOW 4) Quick Battles 5) Mac Compatibility (OS X goes without saying)
  2. All three games are good in their own way and really depends what floats your boat. Do you prefer Western/Eastern/Mediterranean front? If you are unsure about CMBO then d/l the demo and see for yourself, you just might be persuaded to buy. It is an antique now for sure but then I suppose you could say CMBB is obsolete and CMAK obsolescent (that's progress), also there are many good battles to choose from for CMBO. I have all three and must admit sometimes it is hard going back to CMBO after playing BB/AK, but it is the original after all and so we should accept it for what it is, and I continue to play it to this day and still enjoy it. Of course if you are really patient you could always hold out for the release of the new engine, which is due early 06 perhaps.
  3. I hope this 1:1 representation will not be forced onto the player and that there will be an option to toggle squad size, much like we can now from 3-2 men representation. Obviously not everyone will have a computer powerful enough to run the new engine and the more options available to the player (for those with low end machines), the more people are likely to be able to run and purchase CMX2.
  4. If you click on the 'Hotkeys' button you will be shown a list of various commands. The delay time is due to the quality of your units with a conscript having the longest delay and Elite the shortest and also whether you are in command of a HQ or not. I'd suggest also you spend some time with the manual or read the PDF file which should be installed on your PC, as it is there for our benefit afterall.
  5. Try using the command:Shift-G which will describe the status of your units on the map. It's possible your tank has become bogged and if your units are panicked you can't give orders to them until they recover obviously.
  6. As the manual states:"This is not a video game. It requires thoughtful strategy and tactical skill to overcome the enemy while preserving one's own forces and achieving the mission objectives." Bear this in mind and practice as much as possible, initially against the AI if need be and then another human when you feel confident enough. Just start small and learn to walk before you can run so to speak and don't get discouraged as it does take time, and then your strategy and tactical skill will eventually manifest itself. Also you might want to do a search on this site for any specific subject that you have trouble with, as there are plenty of topics for your perusal, and assuming you have the time of course.
  7. All other Ops that I've played thus far in AK/BB seem fine and I can open the problem Ops in the editor without any problem. The Ops are not available to download from Scenario Depot (AFIK) and that would mean I have no other option but to reinstall, unless you care to send me a copy of both to test? If not, don't worry I'll just reinstall.
  8. I checked memory allocation and sure enough that seems to have changed since I patched CMAK to 1.03 and I now have increased as you recommend but I still can't run the OPS. Perhaps I'll need to reinstall the game?
  9. I've tried a number of times to play the OPS 'Descent on Maleme' & 'Assault on Leros' but the former makes it to the end of the blue bar remaining on black screen and the latter about halfway to first bar and freezes also. I'm using an iMac G4 700mhz/512mb ram/32mb Nvidia GeForce2 MX and I have a some questions below also if you'd be kind enough to answer for me please:- 1) I have recently patched CMAK to 1.03 and could this be a factor in preventing me from playing the OPS mentioned? 2) Is it possible for OPS/Scenarios to become corrupted for whatever reason? 3) Would I need to reinstall CMAK? 4) What would you recommend or suggest I do? I did notice in the briefing for both OPS that the Author recommends a powerful PC, however I'm able to run 'Totensontag' and also 'To the Volga' which are both huge and would have thought my CPU would be able to handle 'Descent on Maleme' & 'Assault on Leros' OPS also, although this is obviously not the case and has me slightly perplexed.
  10. I don't really wish to reinstall if possible but will if necessary of course, and I'll post in technical forum also and take it from there - cheers!
  11. I'll wait several minutes or so but the sound is lost also which signifies a crash or freeze or am I wrong?
  12. I have tried to play the OPS 'Descent on Maleme' & 'Assault on Leros' but the former makes it to the end of the blue bar remaining on black screen and the latter about halfway to first bar and freezes also. I've had CMAK a year now and not played these OPS yet but would love to be able to if at all possible of course. 3) What would you recommend or suggest I do? 4) Would I need to reinstall CMAK? 13. To be honest I don't really have a favourite size map as it really depends on my mood at that given moment. One day it could be a small map and another a huge map with a Battalion or sometimes Regiment of units in place. My suggestion to you is just to alternate between the different sizes of maps and unit sizes of course, but don't go crazy and try and play with a Battalion of units on tiny/small maps or vice-versa - larger maps with smaller sized units. I alternate between the trilogy of CM and sides of course as I personaly find it to be a good way to gain knowledge and experience as well as keeping the game interesting or fresh so to speak. However in the end it all comes down to the individuals preference and CM can be played which ever way you prefer and don't forget that.
  14. I sympathise with you regarding troop disembarking, to some extent anyway, but with perserverence it is possible to accomplish. And believe me it is worth it in the end as it is a joy to behold when it works properly, so stick with it and hopefully it will be easier than it is at present in the new engine.
  15. I don't know if this has been mentioned before but, why wasn't the Atomic bomb used on Germany? Surely this could have helped shorten the war as well as save numerous Allied lives. This may have been considered by the Allies but obviously they decided otherwise, but why and for what reason?
  16. A couple of things I would love to see is: 1) All scenarios played marked as such, as I've often come back to CM after a long break trying to remember which scenarios I've completed. 2) During PBEM video playback of same scenario not having to type my password every time, why not just once, unless you exit game of course?
  17. Or as some would say 'Destroy it your self'.
  18. I am definitely not trying to compare CM with any Playstation first-person-shooter game, and I've never even owned a Playstation for that matter. Ok being promoted may well be meaningless, but I don't know how you can say being given information related to CM is meaningless. Given that this game is a historical game as you say than I would have thought you'd relish all information given to you, as there is a lot that could be learned by each one of us, excepting any experts of course.
  19. I have installed various application/demos from CDs over time the same as anyone, but it could be any one of those, if at all for all I know.
  20. I am using OS X 10.3.1 and I'm not running any system enhancements (except for Cocktail) for text and I've not customized any windows in any way. I don't understand what the problem is obviously and I can't see what else I can do short of reinstalling my system software, which I don't particularly want to do. I also tried Disk Utility in the hope this might help but to no avail. I thought it could be Cocktail causing the problem but then I have the same problem in OS9, which doesn't use Cocktail.
  21. The Status Report is still showing the same problem and the Logistics Report is fine in Classic mode. In OS9 it is exactly the same as above, which is slightly annoying as every other report seems to display wonderful except the Status Report - very odd.
  22. I'm not sure how to do that yet but I could e-mail a screenshot to you if you want?
  23. I have just d/l the demo for TacOps (Mac version) and all seems fine except a minor problem with the Unit status screen. The text seems split up and some text shows on the scroll bar strangely, but if I copy to the clipboard all is fine. Any ideas please and would this problem arise in the full version? I'm using an iMac 700mhz/512mb with OSX & OS 9.2.2 if it's of any help.
  24. We are all aware of the AI niggles to some extent and we are expecting future improvements of course, but I have an idea that may have been mentioned before but that could be used to aid AI improvement. This is just an additional way of helping people improve the game on top of the future improvement to the AI btw. What I was thinking was to have a perimeter setting for the AI prior to entering the scenario as we do now by choosing which fog of war/setup etc., but have basic things like: 1) Stay in foxholes on defence 2) HQs remain to the rear of units 3) Armour minimum (x) amount distance from each other to avoid traffic jams 4) MGs also remain to the rear of units 5) Armour remain to the rear of infantry 6) Platton HQ remain with platoon 7) Platoon keep minimum (x) amount distance from each other to avoid mass slaughter in one area There could be others too but I think you get my drift by now, but I would like possibly to hear from BFC on this too and if this would be possible or not and if thay like/dislike this idea. This is just an example btw and I it may be worth considering if nothing else or you might have other ideas, who knows?
  25. You are trying to run CM within the classic (emulated) environment (0 S 9.0) of OS X and this is not possible, and you will need to have OS 9.0 available as a startup-disk. The easiest way to check if you can do this is to go to System preferences in OS X and click on the startup-disk icon, if you see OS 9.00 then you are in luck and only need to click the icon and restart and you will then be in native OS 9.00 and enjoy CM until your hearts content. However if you don't see the icon for OS 9.00 as instructed previously, then your computer will obviously not be able to run CM unfortunately. I have an iMac/700mhz 15inch which fortunately came with OS 9.00 and OS X available as a Startup-disk, but that was in 2002 prior to Apple dropping support for 0S 9.00. I can't see what else you can do short of buying a second hand Mac with OS 9.00 installed, which could be the only option you have if you really want to play CM. I hope this helps.
