  1. Hence the reason I mentioned advancing 30-40 meters (my preference) and JasonC 50-70 meters. You allow your units to catch their breathe (so to speak) or rest, and use them for covering another unit's advance. You shouldn't be advancing faster than your units can recover though, as that is only going to prevent you reaching your objective and also make your units more vulnerable to enemy fire causing them to panic/route, especially without a Leader in command radius. You obviously don't want to be hanging around in the open too long either and so it is a bit of a balancing act if you like. You have to know when to advance, when to rest, when to take cover in any favourable patch of ground, when to hold fire, when to engage - you get the drift I'm sure. But don't sweat it, it's all a learning process and the game is supposed to be fun (first and foremost) and you will learn more with each new play what works and what doesn't. I suppose you could also have the best CM player in the world explain tactics to you, but if you can't understand basic advance procedure due to inexperience or otherwise then I'm afraid you need to get some more practice in, or you're most likely continue to have a bad day at the office (so to speak). And no, I don't wish to seem patronizing here, just trying to be realistic that you need to practice more to understand the importance of the 'Advance' requirement of CM. I'v owned the game since 2003 and played off and on, but feel I have now earned the right to consider myself an above average player. I've had my share of bad experiences with the game also and then I've had days where I've completely amazed myself, even my opponent admitting to feeling humbled. Just don't get discouraged and learn from each game and try to improve in your next game, also learn from each opponent.
  2. I suppose you could try using the same tactics in TOW2 although you have to remember that that game is real time compared to BB/AK turn based. I've never played TOW though so perhaps someone else can chip in here?
  3. Do you have smoke available? If so, use that as a screen prior to your assault although you may need to be swift depending on how much smoke you have. Try to coincide the fall of the smoke with your estimated arrival at location prior to any assault. Otherwise if you were to decide to use smoke to cover all your movement across open ground you may not have enough time to both move and assault, without incurring more/higher casualties. Allow your self time to reach a chosen location which is not too close to enemy to help reduce any damage inflicted towards you while advancing. Then with the timed fall of smoke prepare to advance closer and assault, if possible of course. Keep your Tanks in overwatch and also any mortar teams if you have them to take out enemy ATGs. If you don't have smoke you'll have to advance 30-40 meters so as not to exhaust your units, while covering with another unit, repeating the process. You will take some casualties but advance is required to make most ground, and you must ensure you have Leaders in command radius of your units to help them recover.
  4. I also have to agree CMBB probably the best of the the trilogy.
  5. Indeed, such is the nature of Warfare. Every counter-measure requires a counter counter-measure - ad infinitum.
  6. Ah yes but what if I'm also in possession of thermal-xray-sonar-EM-radar-magic goggles while clad in my Lizard suit with low emissivity, an emissivity coefficient of .02? Emissivity can range from a theoretical 0.00 (completely not-emitting) to an equally-theoretical 1.00 (completely emitting).
  7. It does seem to be a Brit thing plus the fact that we end up bearing most of the fighting responsibility, excepting our U.S. friends of course. I remember when my father served in The Light Infantry the only people that were allowed to grow a beard were the Assault Pioneers.
  8. My point was not to dress like the Taliban (leave that to the super army soldiers) but rather how ironic spending money on camouflage when it could be better invested elsewhere - helicopters for example, which we have a shortage of in British Army.
  9. You pays your money you takes your choice - your loss. Also BFC have already stated in another thread that they are working on bringing the Repository back, but not before the security issue is resolved. Some people are so unforgiving around here towards BFC, you'd think they'd never made a mistake in their lives with their attitudes.:confused
  10. I find it ironic all this talk on camouflage when the Taliban seem to have no trouble avoiding us on the field, so one has to wonder if this is really a Tactics problem we should be dealing with? The perfect camouflage would be a camouflage that automatically changes to your environment ala The Elandsberg Dwarf Chameleon Lizard. Maybe this sounds far-fetched but I'm sure some clever soul out there is all ready working on it, in some laboratory some where although price could be an issue.
  11. If only only that could be done in real life.
  12. Shame on you BFC, all those naked trees and not one single leaf on the ground -tsk, slacking, tsk. Praise be to the tank modelers though -high five!
  13. Oh yeah bring on the super army soldiers, I'm sure that will be worth playing against a formidable foe as the Syrians.
  14. 'The Light Infantry' was an Infantry Regiment and part of the Light Division and in 2005 the M.O.D in all there wisdom decided the 'The Light Infantry' battalions would no longer bear this name and amalgamate to become one large regiment 'The Rifles'.
  15. A total replay feature would be welcome, but if not a nice compromise would be to maintain what we have now 60 sec replay from CMX1 and releasing a small utility later for people who wish to join those replays into one whole.
  16. Unless I'm mistaken as far as I'm aware there is no Light Infantry Battalion in existence in the British Army right now. 'The Rifles' are now the premier Infantry replacement, my father served with the 'The Light Infantry' in fact.
  17. My Mac is also pre intel so that option isn't available to me either, if only CMX2 was available for PS3 console. I know most unlikely, but somebody mentioned another game called 'Ruse' for PS3 which looks and seems very promising and it only takes one company with the vision and determination to get the ball rolling (so to speak) I guess.
  18. Thanks for the tip but I'm unable to test the demo as I'm using a Mac and there is no Mac version available unfortunately. Perhaps the new Normandy module will cater for Mac, if not I will have to start saving the pennies for a PC.
  19. Yes I meant Infantry with regard to Smoke Grenades thanks.
  20. I was wondering whether wind direction actually makes a difference to smoke in SF this time around as in CMX1 IIRC it didn't. I'm also referring to post death animation position being or seeming the same, but this may have changed since the screenshots in updates. Also have or are Smoke Grenades being considered for any future module?
  21. I haven't played Shock Force as yet but I have noticed on the screenshots units KIA seem to have the same body position as the next unit (unrealistic/unnatural) and also I've noticed that smoke still seems to flow in only one direction ala CMX1. I know one could argue that these things don't impact on playability, but for a game that puts so much emphasis on realism and details it does tend to make one sit up and notice and wonder if perhaps these things were deemed unimportant or just simply overlooked. I've read in these forums that it's the little things that keep people coming back to this game time and again, which I understand from playing CMX1 games and the first time I played CMBO and seeing those little Infantry heads turning side to side, although not required as such made you notice the little touches (besides others) like this that made me appreciate BFC and the game even more. Anybody else notice or even bothered, it's not a big deal either way but just something I thought I would bring to BFCs attention for consideration in future modules perhaps?
  22. It's good to hear about the foxhole improvements. I'm sure BFC will do an admirable job which ever path they choose.
  23. I'm curios as to how foxholes will be dealt with this time around and if we can expect something better than spot the foxhole before you spot the enemy situation with CMX1? What is being done in regard to Unit/Weapon/Vehicle descriptions especially for newcomers to the game, as I read another post some guy saying he found CMX1 confusing with unit menu stats/description. Will the vehicle turn rates be faster than CMBB as I loved BB but the turn rates after CMBO were excruciating almost?
  24. In case I'm misunderstanding something here doesn't CMX1 offers winter dates as an option and so isn't it likely CMX2 will also offer this option? Obviously I don't expect this if this new module will only be set in June, but I'm saying this is what I hope to see in due time. Or to put it another way I hope to see CMX2 include winter options in at least one module just to clarify.
  25. I realise Summer months but I'm referring to winter months here, or more specifically those scenarios with winter dates involved and snow as weather option.
