  1. I want to keep a thread where all discovered and acknowledged game meachanic issues are listed so we don't have to see new threads popping up all the time. Makes it easier for everyone. Here are those that have been seen so far. Case: Off Map Mortar Innacuracy - Mortar Artillery fire has often very bad accuracy. Status: Acknowledged and being looked into. Problems could arise when the Spotter called FFE even without having seen the spotting rounds Case: Trees of Steel - In some cases where tanks are standing in front of a tree they will keep firing into the tree when ordered to fire at the enemy. The trees are almost indestructuble and will take a lot of rounds. Status: Acknowledged and being looked into. Case:Building provide very little cover to inf. Status: Unknown? Case: Infantry in buildings open fire through walled windows. Status: Confirmed and being looked into. Case: Reversing Rhinos. Rhino tanks will force bocage even when reversing. Status: This is a TacAI limitation. It's on a list of things we want to address, but there's no specific patch in mind for a fix. Case: QB AI loves AT guns Status: Picking logic gets a bit confused when it has a limited budget. The AT Gun issue is a separate one and that should be fixed for v1.01 Let me know what other game mechanic issues have been acknowledged and I'll keep the original post updated.
  2. Print screen does not work. You have to use a separate program like fraps in order to be able to take screen shots.
  3. I'm not saying cows do not belong in Normandy, I'm just saying they are of no value to the game since they had no value in the reality. No tactics were drawn or used based on cows, they were just there. A movie showing soldiers hiding behind a dead cow does not make it a valid tactic in field. Did it happen real life? Probably somewhere. Did it change the course of battle, most likely not. There are tons of other features that are more important to add.
  4. Damn cows.. Always desired in wargames due to hollywood. I played ARMA2 couple of weeks ago and stumbled upon bunch of cows. None made it out of that meeting alive.
  5. Seems to be a bug. I have seen the same thing. They don't have any ammo. I've even tried to look inside APCs for more mortar rounds but there were not any so I just gave up and used them as extra spotters.
  6. Thanks to everyone who replied. I have enough opponents now for the time being.
  7. CMBN or CMSF (All modules) Will play QBs, preferebaly small battles, any side. Can do one turn per day. Send email to dungeonhub (at) yahoo.dk
  8. Camouflage was essential for AT guns at all times. Unfortunately the only way to use this in the game is to place it close and or behind bush/trees. This makes it more difficult for TacAi to spot it. I wish there was a way to artificaially have them covered in camo and have them sometimes deployed more in open but still not visible until the first shots are fired. In Normandy the ATs can only be used for short range attacks due to bocage which limits their coverage, later on when we move out from bocage we may have more use of their range. Normally in WWII AT guns would be deployed and covered properly so enemy was not able to detect them before it was too late. Such deployement could sometimes be done at night providing an unpleasent surprise the next day. I've read accounts where Soviets would sneak AT guns close to German lines and have them covered. Then suddenly they would pull down the cover and fire couple of projectiles before covering up again. Before Germans were able to organize and find out where the fire came from the AT was covered again and the Germans were not able to spot it.
  9. The way I see it if you want to play balanced games go for Starcraft which was designed with balance in mind. CMBN is a simulation of tactical warfare and wars are rarely balanced in real life. So what if your opponent has Panthers? Find your ways to deal with them, that's the whole purpouse and beauty of this game. Yesterday I was defending with a platoon of soldiers supported by two heavy machine guns, a Panzershreck team, one PzIV and two mortars. The Americans came against me with two Shermans, three Stuarts and 2 companies of soldiers supported by HMGs and heavy artillery. I got blasted by the artillery and tanks in the beginning, and my mortars were overrun by the Stuarts from my left flank since I had concentrated more on my right. I used terrain cover and intercepted both Shermans eliminating them without any problems. Then I felt too confident and started chasing Stuarts with my PzIV only to have its' Wpn Control system damaged rendering the main gun useless. I then used my infantry to hunt the Stuarts down one by one using bocage and walls as cover and throwing grenades at them until all of them were either destroyed or abandoned. All this while my MG42s were cutting down on infantry trying to advance. Result was total victory even though it looked really bad at one point..
  10. To bad if that is the case.. Would have been pretty cool to encounter entrenched positions from time to time when playing against AI. I guess it would require an additional plan on the map defining stationary defense deployement line and then add a % chance of how often that could happen on that particular map.
  11. I could agree on off board batteries beeing outside the scope but what about on-map mortars? Should not the local commander in field be able to realize his forces are under mortar attack and based on spotted trajectory have indications from where mortar fire is coming? I have just read a personal account of one of the Gebirgsjaegers in Finland during WWII when his platoon was attacking a Soviet line, he was manning one of the MGs protecting the assault team. He opened fire on Soviet positions keeping them pinned while a group of Germans advanced toward the enemy. Shortly after he heard Soviet mortars fire and his group came under mortar bombardement forcing them to seek cover in the nearby craters. After few minutes German mortars opened fire on the Soviet mortar positions silencing them and allowing the MG team to get out of the cover and retreat to their original positions.
  12. I sure hope not. They have an additional programmer now which should speed up things a bit. My hope is that within max 6 months a new module is out.
  13. Hi While I was playing last night one thing struck me during AI's initial barrage. Why are we not able to deploy our artillery in CB mode? Let's say your opponent has on board mortars. They fire and you can clearly see incoming shells. This should provide a "?" contact and allow you to use your artillery or mortars as a counter meassure if you want to. For off board artillery you could set it up to be in CB mode and they will aquire data from enemy barrages and conduct CBF. This could be simulated under the hood and provide an additional strategy layer. Based on enemy's artillery range your own guns could or could not perform any CBF. CBF would be based on sound ranging and flash spotting which would require enemy guns to fire. These methods have been there forever and were joined by radar in World War II. Radar could detect a shell in flight; the gun that fired it could not usually be seen and the shell's elliptical trajectory made it impossible to extrapolate backwards with the technology of that time. However, mortar bombs have a parabolic trajectory (as do guns firing in 'high angle') defined by a simple mathematical equation with two points on the parabolic curve. It was therefore possible to deduce a mortar's position by tracking its bomb and recording two points on its trajectory.
  14. Has anyone seen AI buy and deploy bunkers, foxholes and trenches in QB? Is there a limitation there or have I just been unlucky and have not seen it yet?
  15. Hi I'm up for any games over PBEM, preferably tiny/small battles. Contact me at dungeonhub@yahoo.dk if you're intrested
  16. I'm seeing a lot of rain and night when selecting random
  17. Just one question. When I select Suggested Force in QB computer selects Platoon and Companies as formations. How can I do that? Most of the listed formations are Battalions and selecting any sub formation inside a battalions does not seem to be possible. Even if I select battalions and remove everything but a single platoon it still is listed as as battalion as selected force.
  18. Have you noticed how AI forces always consists of bunch of Technicals when selecting Mujaheeding Infantry? The only way to get Muj inf as opposing force is to select Soviet Special forces all other combinations tend to provide AI with Technicals only even when you clearly specify Infantry. This must be a bug in force selection..
  19. Great game Battlefront! I'm coming from CMSF recently and I always took care of my troops due to low casualty tolerance for the blue. Started playing CMBN with the same intentions. Finished the tutorial 5 min ago and I got Total Victory as USA only having 3 dead soldiers and 7 wounded. Isn't 3 dead pretty good for being WWII setting? I think I should have been rewarded a medal for my actions. Would be nice if game would recognize really good results.
  20. I'll take that one also, more Ammo http://www.wehrmacht-history.com/heer/self-propelled-artillery/15-cm-sig-33-1-sf-auf-panzer-38-t-ausf-m.htm I remember using the SIG in CMBB during PBEM games against a firend and he always knew I was bringing one of them with me if there was a town or a village involved. I always made it count in the urban enviroment. Surpressed the house then drove it up and blasted the house and then retreated. The infantry could then easily overtake the house and find a lot of dead and panicked soviet soldiers. Made him rethink his urban tactics eventually. =)
  21. I love blasting houses with it http://www.wehrmacht-history.com/heer/self-propelled-artillery/15-cm-sig-33-sf-auf-panzer-i-ausf-b.htm
  22. The way I see it there is one much more viable option then what is in place right now. If you buy you copy as download only then you obviously have access to the internet. When you buy your copy you get assigned a serial number that is directly related to your user name and from your account you should be able to see and administrate your license. Let's say you get two licenses as with E-license. You then install the game and verify your key online. Your account is then updated and you have one license left. Every time you launch the game it checks connection to internet and verifies your license. If there is no connection then it should still allow you to run for a month after the verification failure. If you don't go online within a month the game stops launching until you can verify the license again. I'm sure everyone that buys the game online will at least be online once per month. That gives you some time for traveling if using laptop for example. If something happens to your PCs and you need to reinstall you can go online to your account and restore your licenses manually. You then install the game on your new rig and you are good to go. In that way there will be no hassle for either users or Battlefront support. This is the way several software packages are deployed.
  23. True. It's funny how some people just can't see outside their own box. It's like me saying "who the hell actually drinks coffee in the morning?". Just because I see it unnecessary doesn't mean everyone else has to follow or?... Some people are just....
