  1. IICR, both the NZ and Aus Divs had a Cavalry Bn in their ToE, and most Inf Divs always had an attached Inf Armd Bde. On another issue was the so called animosity from the NZ and Aussie Divs towards the British Armd Divs (7th Armd in particular) because of their percieved non cooperation between with them. Sidi Rezegh (Op Cursader) was a shining example of the 7th Armd not calling for help from the Kiwis 'down the road' when their 7th Spt and 7th Bde were being destroyed. El Alamein was another when the Armour refused to lead, much to the disgust and contempt of the the Diggers and Kiwis
  2. Soo..it appears that the new 'front line' set up has no bearing on wether you manage to hold your ground or run to mum?..mmm
  3. Question on how is the Front line determined after each battle.. I'm playing Russian v AI German in 'Gamblers Fallacy'. Spoiler... I declined early contact and decided to make a stand with everything I had at the small 'hamlet', occuping all buildings, the stone walls and treelines up the road, all hidden. At dusk, the last battle before nightfall Gerry showed up with Infanry in mass moving down the rigde/ woods in front, only to to be swept away by withering fire from my ambush... Cool, dead Hun everywhere, I'm still in full posessioin of the Hamlet, original positions, no where out flanked, Huns to front of me quaking. All Hvy weapons, ATG OK, thou the BT's are finished... Next battle, Nighttime, NEW Front line has me setup out of town!! yep!! I was spewing *&^%%$#* Had a mad rush to get back to re-occupy my previous positions. Gerry came back for more murdering, down the slopes, with reduced night visability it was a slaughter... Next battle had me set up way back at the Town on the river, with more reinforcements , I haven't finished this gem of an Operation [cheers xerxes], but I'll be using the same tactics, stay low, don't shoot till you see the whites of their eyes, and open up with everything you have. Soo... back to my original Question, how is the Front line determined after each battle moving back by the 'hand of God' really ticked me off, I've got an aweful feeling this will happen again at the town after the first clash, but with a river to the back of me, will I get lucky and survive a mad stampede over the bridge and back up the Church and town...
  4. Friendly fire shouldn't be a problem with DAK using their zeiss binos, the Yanks possibly, and the Brits would think about it over tea..[Rommel once stated that they had a rigid inablity to move quickly]
  5. I hear what you're saying MikeyD, but when I backed up the original bmp folder before I turned into a mod slut, I needed two CDs to burn nearly 900megs worth of files, I'd really appreicate a ID file too
  6. Raziaar, reading your posts, is sounds like you're pretty ticked off... I'm not trying to be pendantic so bare with me. Observation of enemy units has various levels of targeting feedback [Fog Of War]. The closer the contact the better all depending of terain, movement, and distance all interplay. From what you are describing, it sounds like the Infantry are someway off already broken/panicked/routed, taking off to the rear. If you get close enough with armour [1-200 mtrs] but not too close for fear of molatov's etc, they'll die real fast or surrender after exhaustion. And if those surrendering Infantry have been giving you a LOT of grief, just area fire em'...mmm..shouldn't of said that, politically Incorrect. Waitng in ambush can be a real nail biter but pays handsome dividends if done well with good fire discipline, and I love the tension. I played the Demo, and couldn't wait to get into CMBB, I've never looked back, It has so much depth and immersion.
  7. with AT guns, I've found they always got a short life expectancy so the buggers will always be hidden until they want to open fire on something worth dying for [techical term - fire discpline]]...To trigger their ambush I just bite the bullet and hunt with armour with plenty of overwatching friends, eg. rocks, mortars, knives, Mgs, kitchensinks, anything that will suppress them. Whatever you use don't go in with penny packets always use force overkill cause' there's always more than one of the buggers lurking in that treeline or whatever...
  8. 'Spike' Milligan's Tunisian and Italian affairs are always a good read, er laugh
  9. I read of the katyushas first being used at Smolensk, which, used for the first time, broke and panicked the German Infantry off the line. Being such a topsecret weapon all Russian Rocketry was manned by the NKVD and any unfortunate to be captured were shot... I had read this decades ago and can't remember the source but because of the fleeing germans this always stuck. Maybe just another urban myth but sounds plausable because all the best Russian gear was not always deployed 'up front' in the shop window'.
  10. Hells teeth, you wouldn't catch me in a Stuart [Honey], only good for recce work, light armour, and pop gun, great turn of speed but burnt easy when hit [had the aero engine I think, high octane gas], very reliable. The Allies were always a generation behind the Gerrys and Russkies, the Kv's and 34's were great MBT's thou pity about crew quality..well in the early years..
  11. ..."give em the cold monitor" ROFLMAO @ Bruno Weiss..geez man got coffee all over the keyboard reading that..still wiping tears from my eyes. lol
  12. G'day CHillDice, get the demo's, I downloaded the CMBB demo and have been flogging it to death, good 'hands on' experience whilst I waited for the Sim to arrive in the post. This only took 5 working days, from last monday week when I ordered it to this monday waiting for me when I got home from work, It had to travel from the East coast of USA to West Australia! now thats bloody good going!!. The demo is great!!, its small enough to get a handle on the game system. A good analogy is the rock, scissor, paper routine, 'wrong' tactics will get you hammered as apposed to 'correct' ones seeing your opponent slaughtered...mmm..must get CMBO now..
  13. Interesting concept, designing an out of fuel scenario...I don't think I've read anywhere about a situation like it, thou Logistics were always a major problem to DAK there was always juice in the tanks. At Gazalla in the 'Kessel' British POWs complained about a lack of water, Rommel retorted that they were on the same ration and if supply columns did'nt breach the minefields to the back of him in 24? hrs he'd have to seek terms...it was that close. About brakedowns, Britsh Armour was chroinc especial the Crusiers and Crusaders. The 4 gallon petrol tins were hopeless, always spliting, before the Brits copied the 'gerrycan'.
  14. pokes head around door...rookie Question: can you use the german skins from CMBO in CMBB?..sorry if its been asked before but I've been trying to read the last dozen posts but it looks like a soap opera going on here lol
  15. use to play.. Civ III Silent Hunter [patched] Panzer Elite [patched] IL2 Forgotten Battles Now CMBB... will get CMAK waiting: on 'Rome: Total War' and..'Knights over Europe' [WW1 Flight Sin]
  16. while I'm here, any ETA on a Demo, er..if any?..mmm MkIII's at Sidi Rezegh...88's at Helfaya pass..not to mention Gazala..time for a refill of red
  17. For MikeyD No Czech 38t's went to Afrika, Thou its chassic did mounting the captured Russian 76.2mm A/T guns in the guise of the Panzerjager 38(t) SdKfz 139 [MarderIII]; approximately 117 managed to get shipped through to DAK before El Alamein. Light armour and high profile with powerful gun for North African standards.
