  1. I am a big fan of the Combat Mission series and played all the World War II ones continuously. I am currently trying out the demo, specifically the tutorial mission where you have to capture a crossroads. I am playing on the "novice" level and was surprised that I lost 2 Shermans within a time frame of 30 seconds to what looked like a PAK 50 AT gun. I read a comment from someone who thought that AT fire from both AT guns and tanks was way too accurate for WW II. This is a concern to me as a game that is intended to simulate tactical combat on a small scale should have as its number one priority, historical realism. Also still trying to figure out how to get my mortars to fire. I put two HQ units on the 2nd floor of the big building on the left and moved them forward figuring that they could spot from there. So far though, whenever I try to target with a mortar it says no line of sight. The demo itself runs very smoothly on my PC. I have the two main graphic settings at "Better". The initial screen when the game starts with the Battlefront "logo" in the middle of screen is garbled around the rectange where Battlefront appears. The graphics are a big improvement over the old CM series but the Shermans look a little too "clean". Also some of the motions of the soldiers look a little odd. For example when I was viewing some German soldiers crouched behind a wall, they periodically dropped to the ground and rolled in to something akin to a fetal position. At first I thought they had been hit but no cross appeared. Just as a general comment about the graphics, it appears to me that the movement of tanks and infantry is much faster then what I remember from the original CM games. I am a little disappointed by the sounds for the weapons, so far they just don't add much to the immersive experience. It appears that the only way you can determine the line of sight of a unit is to choose target and then point in the direction you want.
  2. I assume that CM Normandy will have an e-license. Any difference between the CD and digital download versions in regards to e-license? I am always wary of the various protection methods as I have read horror stories about DRM. Over at another forum, some people posted threads about how the DRM for a specific game had not only slowed down their PC but destroyed one of their drives. Anyway, I am curious as to how the e-license will work for CM Normandy? Another game I am interested in is TOW Kursk. Does this employ the same e-license that will be used for CM Normandy? Thanks.
  3. One of the issues I always encounter with online play is connecting up and the requirement of opening up ports. Fortunately, I have been able to use Hamachi successfully for a number of games. I hope to be able to use Hamachi for Combat Mission Battle for Normandy and have been debating about purchasing TOW Kursk because it covers the Russian front. I'm wondering if anyone has used Hamachi for TOW Kursk? Thanks.
  4. I noticed that in the recommended system specs it indicated Vista or Windows 7 with 4 GIG RAM and a video card with at least 512 MB. The system I am running is a 3.17 Dual Core, Windows XP, 4 GIG RAM, and a 1GIG ATI Radeon HD 4890 video card. Just wondering if my system would be able to run TOW Kursk at high settings? Thanks.
  5. Like you, I played all the CM World War II games by PBEM. When I found out about CM Battle for Normandy, I also started visiting the Battlefront forums. It had been so long that I had forgotten my username and password. I considered buying the pre-order version of CM BN but the shipping cost to Canada is $14 so I am going to wait until it is released and order the digital download. At that time, I can burn a DVD as my physical back up. The steel box is not something that I need.
  6. Can someone tell me approximately how much it would cost for S & H to Canada. It may be cheaper for me to get the download version only vs. the pre-order as I could then burn a DVD of the download as my hard copy back-up.
  7. Okay sounds reasonable. I will be purchasing the pre-order version. If I understand correctly, a year from the day I download the game, I can use the CD to reinstall it and then activate the game using the CD key. Any beach scenarios or do all the scenarios involve action inland? I assume that the expansion modules will involve adding the Brits and Canadians.
  8. Having played all the previous WW II Combat Mission games I am thinking of pre-ordering CM The Battle for Normandy. I see that I get a CD but it mentions something about being able to download it the day it becomes available. I also see something about the download expiring in 365 days. Please clarify what this means to a purchaser of the version where there is a CD. Would I have to reinstall the game a year from now using the CD? Is there another charge a year from now for the game? Thanks.
  9. Thanks to everyone for their replies. When I choose one of the other resolutions, things like the menu that appears when you hit hot keys is completely white. I'll just play it on my old PC with the 4 X 3 monitor. I noticed that when I went to delete CMBB off of my new PC that there was no uninstall CMBB option. Secondly even using the remove program option in the control panel, CMBB did not appear. I ended right clicking on start to explore and manually deleted the CMBB folder. Weird. I also have CMSF which I see is classified as a CMX2 game. Does CMSF support widescreen resolutions? Its a shame that the Combat Mission series games cannot be updated. In my opinion they are still the best tactical PC games available.
  10. Never mind, I did find your name but only one scenario, "Denser Dust".
  11. Okay I found the GreenAsJade website but could not see your name DerAlteFritz. I looked under CMAK mods. thanks.
  12. Thanks for the reply Lt. Belenko. I'm little confused as to how I can set up CMBB to my native resolution of 1680 X 1050. I reinstalled the game on my new PC. When I start the game the first thing that comes up is the 3D DirectX Test. The resolution of 1680 X 1050 does not come up. I chose another resolution and then exited the game. I deleted the prefs file. I re-started the game and the 3D test comes up again. As before though the resolution of 1680 X 1050 is not a selection that is available to me. What am I doing wrong?
  13. After many years away from it, my buddy and I just started a PBEM game of CMBB. I had to reinstall it on my old PC with the 4 X 3 monitor as the graphics don't work on my new PC which has a a widescreen monitor set at 1680 X 1050 resolution. Is there a fix for this? I also see some discussion about a Combat Mission Normandy but I do not see any "official" announcement from Battlefront. This would be a definite buy for me and I would hope that resolutions for widescreen monitors would be part of the game. Where can I get some more info on this new game? Also, how about a Combat Mission Pacific? Thanks.
  14. Thinking about getting this game as I have the original SC and SC Weapons and Warfare. I keep reading about people being concerned about games with DRM protection. On a couple of the posts a license key is mentioned. So does Global Conflict have a DRM?
  15. I haven't been able to move the Canadian heavy bomber from Canada to England. With the American ones, I was able to operationally move them to England but not so with the Canadian one. Is it restricted to North America as I was able to move it to the U.S. Thanks.
  16. Yes, that is the case, looks like they are grayed out but the buttons are popped up. My mistake, I was expecting that all chosen options would be in light blue. Thank you for the quick reply.
  17. Just starting my first PBEM game of WAW. When I received the first move from my friend, options such as FOW, weather, and research were not highlighted in light blue. As a test, I initiated a multi-player e-mail game as the Axis and chose all options except for National Colours. When I got in to the game, I checked the options, and FOW and weather and all the bottom advanced options were not highlighted in light blue even though I had chosen them. Strangely enough, although Undo Move was not in light blue (I had chosen it) I could still undo moves. Is this a bug? Thanks.
  18. Got the SC2 and WAW bundle this week and I have some questions. In SC I recall there was a garrison requirement for Poland, otherwise USSR entry was accelerated, but I don't see anything in the manual. What do the "ones" on the unit bases mean? I assume they refer to experience but it doesn't seem to jive with the experience medals. I also an "A" on the base of an HQ which I assume means that it is on auto command but that didn't agree with the mode it was set on either. Thanks.
  19. If I install 1.01, will I still have to install update 1.08 for Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg as well? Thanks.
  20. I just ordered SC2 with the WAW expansion today. I had downloaded the demo last night and was impressed enough to place my order. I have been playing the Poland scenario but can't seem to produce any units so I assume that part of the game is disabled which seems strange considering the length of this scenario. Am I doing something wrong, or is production disabled?
  21. Will the price for the SC2 and WAW Expansion bundle still be $45 after the pre-order period expires which I understand is after the game is released, or is this a discounted pre-availability price?
  22. Will the price for the SC2 and WAW Expansion bundle still be $45 after the pre-order period expires which I understand is after the game is released, or is this a discounted pre-availability price?
  23. Picked E-Mail 2 Player, chose the scenario, typed in a password. After entering the password, the screen reverts back to original screen where you choose battle, campaign, join network etc. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? Also, I notice that there is an incoming and a outgoing folder under save games. I assume that my moves are saved under outgoing and that the ones I receive go to incoming. I have played PBEM for all previous three CM games and thought this would work the same. Thank you in advance to anyone that can help me out.
  24. I did not purchase SC2 but with the upcoming release of the Weapons & Warfare expansion I am now interested. Will there be a version of SC2 (boxed) that already has the expansion? Or do I have to purchase SC2 and then buy the expansion download as well? Thanks.
