  1. My friend and I both bought the game about 10 days ago and the pbem game we are playing is our first. So maybe battalion size?
  2. Sorry but I don't see this campaign in the ones available to play. Is it a download at the repository? Just to confirm, campaigns can be played PBEM?
  3. My friend and I started the Sticking It Out scenario in the CW module by PBEM. I am the Canucks and I'm getting my butt kicked after only 5 minutes. The Germans have knocked out one of my AT guns and demolished a house and the men in it with long range fire from their Panthers. I just noticed a thread about this scenario where the designer does not recommend playing it HTH. Can anyone recommend some balanced scenarios suitable for PBEM? Thanks.
  4. He does have the same version, 1.10 as we are currently playing one of the CW scenarios by PBEM. I think that maybe he did not save the game file to the "Saved Games" folder and put it in the "Incoming Email" folder.
  5. I have been playing a scenario against the AI on my computer. I sent one of my files to a friend of mine thinking that he could load it to his saved game folder and then view the replay. He has been unable to open it. So I quess that files with the bts extenstion cannot be opened from another computer? Thanks.
  6. The AT gun was knocked out before I could even give it an order. None of my units were "hiding". When you say covered arcs I assume you mean giving them an arc area that is short enough so that they won't try any long shots to give their position away? Another question, if I call down artillery with an observer or HQ what happens if I tell it to move from that position in the next set of orders? Will the barrage still happen? If yes, will it be less accurate because the observer or HQ has moved from the original location where it called for artillery? Thanks for the advice on tactics. I will probably be learning a lot of things about this game the hard way.
  7. My friend and I bought the game last week and just started our first PBEM game. The scenario is where the Canadians are trying to hold the town of Buron with the 12 SS attacking. In the first three minutes, panthers have knocked out one of my AT guns hidden behind a hedge and killed my observer team on the 2nd floor of a building. Wow! I asked my friend if he saw either of the above or was it just blind area fire. He told me he had yet to give a fire order so the AI directed these shots. Interested in the experience of other players, are tanks that are moving usually this accurate?!?
  8. Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't correct the problem. Maybe I need an even faster processor and faster video card. I just bought the video card last week so that I could play this game. The distortion in the plowed field does not occur for the area that is closer to where the camera is positioned. Its only more in the distance. Anyway, its not a game breaker so I quess I will just have to live with it.
  9. I am attaching a couple of screenshots to show a graphic problem that I am encountering. The first one is of a plowed field. Note that when I view the field perpendicular to the plow lines I get the wavy distortion. When I view facing the same direction as the plow lines there is no distortion. The 2nd screenshot is of a vehicle. Note the angled lines on the side. I get these lines unless I view a vehicle from a specific angle. My system is a 3.16 Dual Core/4 MB Ram/XP/HIS 1GIG HD Radeon 6870 video card. I have tried two settings: Vertical Sync - On 3D Model Q - Best 3D Text Q - Best Antialias - on Vertical Sync - Off 3D Model Q - Best 3D Texture Q - Better Antialias - On I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem and what if any is the fix? Thanks.
  10. In this scenario, you are supposed to destroy some artillery that is shelling Utah Beach. I have reached a point in the scenario where I have killed all the Germans manning the guns and the trenches. There is still a German machine gun in a foxhole across the field. I tried to blow up one of the guns using a satchel charge by choosing the Blast command without success. When I click on the artillery pieces it says abandoned. According to the scenario briefing, if you are familiar with Band of Brothers you will know what to do to destroy the guns. In that episode I seem to remember them putting grenades in the barrels and denotating them - I think. Anyway, rather than having me sit through another 20 minutes of this scenario, can anyone who has played it tell me how I am supposed to destroy the guns? As stated earlier, I tried the satchel charge. Plus you only get two of them and there are 3 artillery pieces. Thanks.
  11. Got the game earlier this week and I am very impressed. Not only are the graphics amazing but the game play and realism are a big improvement from the Combat Mission series. With my new video card I have the 3D model setting at Best and 3D textures at Better and it runs smooth as a baby's behind. I have been reading the manual but did not find answers to the following. (1) I assume that if no orders are given to a infantry unit it will recover stamina. I had some infantry that I ordered to move "slow" and they became exhausted. Later read in the manual that "slow" is tiring. Anyway once they reached their final way point I did not give them any orders but over a span of about 4 to 5 minutes they remained "exhausted". Do infantry recover any faster if for example you order them to "Hide"? (2) How do you embark or load infantry on to a carrier, and can an observer team be embarked on to a tank? For that matter, can any units at all be embarked on a tank? One final non-tactical question. Is it true that there is going to be a Market Garden expansion? Thanks.
  12. I checked under quarantine in my Avira program and there aren't any files listed that have been quarantined. I also turned off the real time protection and then clicked on the CW icon and it still doesn't work. I wonder if anyone else running Avira is experiencing the same problem? If not then there must be something else that is causing it. Thanks.
  13. Excuse my ignorance but is this what your are referring to: You can either try turning off the heuristic detection from the settings or if the CW module has been removed there should be an option in Norton to restore it and exempt it from future scans. If yes, where do I find the settings? I checked my Avira program and I don't see anything about "heuristic". I don't believe the CW module has been removed because I see it in the folder. It is 1.16 MB.
  14. I just found a Commonwealth icon in the Module folder. When I double click it, a message comes up saying that Windows has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I am assuming that my e-license code activated both the main game and the Commonwealth module? If not, maybe the problem is that the Commonwealth module is not activated? If that is the case, how do I activate it? This highlights why I dislike all this DRM protection. What a pain in the butt!
  15. Just purchased the game by direct download and installed the game. It is my understanding that the Commonwealth module is complete and included in the purchase. However when I start the game I do not see any Commonwealth battles. I also checked in Quick Battles and Campaigns. Can someone let me know how I access Commonwealth scenarios? Thanks.
  16. I just purchased the game by direct download for $65. I then burned the game file and patch 1.01 to a dvd. I assume that if I ever have to reinstall the game, I can use the file on the dvd and then merely enter my e-license.
  17. Thanks for the info, yes it is a $15 discount. Only downside as I understand it is that if I purchase it immediately I won't get the either the full game or the Commonwealth module for 4 to 6 weeks as the module will not be finished until then.
  18. Once I get the game, I won't be playing it in real time but rather in the wego mode. I will have to respectively disagree about your comment concerning close air support in Normandy. It probably was decisive and more then made up for the quality difference between Allied tanks and German Panthers and Tigers. I'm just finishing reading Antony Beevor's D-Day The Battle for Normandy which I highly recommend. Here are some quotes: "Each combat command had an air support party riding in tanks provided on Bradley's orders for air force liaison officers. An exceptionally effective working relationship had been established with Lieutenant General Elwood R. Quesada, the chief of IX Tactical Air Command." "One German commander complained bitterly that they were 'overhead like hawks watching for any movement on the ground then swooping into the attack.' "The support from the P-47s was so close that one pilot radioed to Doane that he was going to bomb a German tank only fifty yards to his left and that he had better take cover. Air - tank cooperation could not have been closer." "Whenever they reached a roadblock, the air liaison officer in his tank or half-track simply called in a squadron of P-47 Thunderbolts and the defensive position would be destroyed, usually within fifteen minutes." The total dominance of Allied air power both on and behind the front lines provoked anger among German troops who also resorted to black humour. "If you can see silver aircraft, they are American. If you can see khaki planes, they are British, and if you can't see any planes, then they're German" Obviously providing large amounts of tactical air support in CM Normandy would make the game very frustrating for the German player and I don't recall any of the Combat Mission games having any air support options. Anyway, look forward to getting the full game once the Commonwealth expansion is released.
  19. I installed a new video card yesterday, a Radeon 1GIG HD 6870, and for the first time, the demo did not crash on me. My old video card was a Radeon 1 GIG HD 4890. With the old card, the demo would be okay for about a minute or so, then crash. Plus sometimes the trees appeared and disappeared. I experimented with the demo scenario where the Yanks get some Shermans as reinforcements facing a couple of Panthers and assault guns. I couldn't believe how fast the Shermans were being knocked out. I am thinking of purchasing the full game once the Commonwealth expansion is available but was wondering what people who have played the full game are experiencing in terms of being able to take on German armour. Doesn't seem much fun being the Yanks and unlike the historical situation, you just can't call in P-47's to knock out the German tanks.
  20. My friend and I having been playing the demo by PBEM before deciding whether to purchase the game. We both have version 1.0. As of game file 10, the demo no longer works. Is there a time limit to the demo? If yes, it is unfortunate as we have not yet been able to check out any combat. We are playing the Closing the Pocket scenario. Here is his latest e-mail to me. Well, I'm stumped,, I put the file in Incoming Mail, Outgoing Mail and the Saved Game file and when I click on Saved, all I get is move 001 even though there are multiple files in each folder Thanks.
  21. Okay, that explains why I can't recrew it. The tank doesn't show any graphic signs of damage nor does the the triangle in the info display for damage. Very odd
  22. I haven't been able to recrew one of my tanks in the demo. I must have hit the dismount order by mistake. When I tell the crew to move to the tank (which sits in a red circle with a cross in the circle) it shows either a icon with a green arrow pointing to the left or the same icon with a red arrow pointing down. I have tried both without success. I also don't see any hot key for this nor could I find anything in the PDF manual. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. I am playing the demo at Basic Training Level as the Americans and have a question concerning the full game. When playing the demo, the Busting the Bocage scenario, I noticed that when I clicked on a German floating icon, it displayed things such as the amount of ammo it had left, and its morale. This seems rather unrealistic and was wondering if it is because I am playing at the Basic Training Level? In the full game, is there fog of war at more difficult levels? I would think that the only information that I should be able to see is the type of unit once it is in line of sight.
