  1. You'd never know unless you actually got into enough to understand the dynamics. My first several games I couldn't figure out how to annex a province LOL Eventually, with MultiPlayer you becomes probably as if not more entertaining than Strategic Command, a game lasts on average several months 1 night a week. 4-5 hours a Night, up to 8-12 player. Some have had 20-plus players but those are rare. They're now creating EU3 going to be a legendary game if it is like it's former Child [Off topic] Europa Universalis II? Isn't that really old? Is it any good? I think I may actually have a copy that I never bothered playing. </font>

  3. Tao, wait a minute now, it is quite rare that you cannot figure "some" way to get those units active in North Africa in time! You have perfect weather throughout Winter and Spring to smash the British. You just have to polish of the French quick enough. Like My Hidden Pun If you must take Down Tunisia then use the intermediary city in Libya instead of the port cities, that one is generally not hit by the Malta effect... This costs you a few turns, sure... But not really that bad. And anyways, I notice most players overstock Libya, it needs more air and less units... Air and Italian Fleet is good enough... that with some good Italian Amphibs well planned out pretty much spells the end of Egypt with an all out defense within 5-6 turns, MAYBE 9-10 turns... And on the flipside, so what about Barbarossa... Why don't you try to delay it a month or two and place your troops in Iraq, then go through Iran and attack the Caucasus, the flip side of that manuever instead of operating back to Europe is that Russians will have to defend and you will get Iraq and Iran MPPs in your pocket. By the Summer of '42 the MPPs you've earned and saved would be well worth it! Also you can take Malta! Just bombard the Port and the Fort till the Unit there can nolonger reinforce. Eventually your airstrikes will kill it. At a High Cost! Then There is no Malta Effect. Similarly annex Spain 1 way or the other...if that happens Gibraltar effect is a lot worse than Malta Effect... There are options, indeed my first few games I was baffled but I learned and by the way the AI is not worth your time. I could beat it with 1 eye and no fingers, and on 50 beers
  4. Yeah SeaMonkey, it's a way to prevent people from abusing transports and a way to force the use of Ports and bombardments-aerial bombardments.. Assuming the port is too much of a wreck to load and unload units, The cranes are hanging half in the water from being blown to bits, the port facilities are under water, the port officials are afraid to come back to work and despite SS round ups they have run to hide in the woods!
  5. This is something that seems to occur quite frequently and is a bit strange. In the 1.3 and 1.4 patch... Terif and Rambo both have experienced it with me. First of all, after finishing and sending and turn-Copying it into the Network directory so it can be converted from E-mail game to IP game, they host and the game requests the opposite player's password when you attempt to join. Generally if you let the other player finish his turn and mail the save back to you in fixes the issue. Basically: it seems to do something to the file to attempt to convert it from E-mail to IP Game. So far I think every time it's when the Host has been an Allied player. usually when that allied player finishes the turn and then sends the file to you to host as Axis, problem solved otherwise this isn't a major glitch but a bit of a headache.. Also: When I attempt to hit cancel because I cannot enter the Password in it says "segmentation error" and reverts back to the Strategic Command 2 Main Menu but it's huge and blanked out. I wonder if this is a personal problem or if others experience it?
  6. Yes, I have to agree with you both, the men making money off the oil imports are likely Republican, Texans who own most of the refineries and do not want us to have alternatives. Some of the Democrats, though not perfect are more aimed toward alternative energy and less toward big business monopolies which alternative energy would undermine in oil tycoons. Our Economy is headed into a steep decline that which may never recover if there is not Revolution, that Revolution is our "own energy production" The Trillions of dollars spent to secure the MiddleEast could likely lead to a source, by the time we Free Iraq we may have afforded to fund the evolution of such a thing... And yes, Saudis likely have more Cash than Germans, but just like a man with 500G and a man who owns 10% of this and 10% of that... though they may be worth about the same, it's easier to spend the 500G than cash in on your investments. Considering the nature and history of the Arabians I would go with the Germans as far as future Prospects.. DHL, was American Express, I wonder what DHL stands for? The van is nolonger red white and blue Think of what just happened to BASF, largest take over of an American company by Germany, they definitely saw UK and France were conqouring the world economically and decided to dismantle the concept of World Conquest via Arms
  7. Bromley, they have invested yes, though Germany is wealthier than Saudi Arabia? Odd, Germany has no natural resources any longer in comparison... After WW2 they had a lot of craters to count, now they have likely top 3 or 4 Economic Powerhouses in the world. Most of the workers in Saudi, or Kuwait are Korean imports.. The locals don't want to do the work themselves... There are very poor class and very rich, The Royalty there lives it up. Men like Bin Laden family have it all. Monarchy tends to be fairly corrupt and hypocritical. These men preach do not drink but all own liquor cabinets, they preach piety, though there are more Gold Shops in their cities then stripmalls in American ones... Do not get me wrong, there are smart Saudis, in our schools.. My Aunt married a Jordanian, he got a degree in Computer Programming and lives in PA making 100-150k a year.. Hmmm, living the American Dream imported Arabians ? I wonder when he will stop sending money back home, will his 3 children still feel the pull of the Homeland or just like American Japanese and Germans indoctrination?
  8. Iran was way behind Iraq, I guess they played the wrong sides. Though both nations were getting Yesterdday's equipment, what a bunch of embecile's.. Saudi Arabia spent all their money on Limo's, tennis courts, luxury resorts, $5000 wine, women, etc... Tomorrow there will be no oil and they will be herding sheep and riding camels Invest in Low Energy Vehicles, alternative Energy, this is the wave of the future. Convert coal into Oil 100% until then.. We're overpaying for oil anyways, OPEC is ripping us off Invade Iran? Bahhhh humbug, those people don't want Americans, they like their Psychopaths, meanwhile Isreal has 303 nukes, 3 former Soviet ones.. Let the Jews sort em out They feel that after WW2 they must defend their rights and their Civilization, and they will..
  9. "HEY, Wait a minute!" You guys are complaining, try another game. I'm playing Europa Unversalis, I have just paused because I'm in Real Time! In 2 seconds, Blucher is about to march across the Frontier of Northern France and cut down 200,000 Frenchies.. And I had several higher ranked Generals at 2manuever/1fire/1shock General take over for a 5/5/5 General!!!!! Now I must retreat each one of them through the disband and reorganization method to another Province and reorganize my 5/5/5 Monster to take on the Germans before I lose my army and the war in 2 seconds when his cannons and "Fire" Ability evaporates my crappy General. SC is pretty easy and straightforward Though neat trick about move then reattach P.S. Germans have range on their Generals because their Generals are driving Daimler Benz Rambo, Don't be Jealous The Brits were too cheap to give out Rolls Royce's to their Generals and a Chevy just don't cut the cheese in 1940s

  11. This will save me a lot of effort, Von Bock has lead many a charges into Mother Russia with Runstedt there with 2 bars and Bock only 1 bar. You learn something new every day. I also discovered that it seems you get 6 tiles of support? That means that you do not have to operate an HQ for France in 1939, you can just move the HQ to do most of the dirty work. Now here is a really interesting question, I thought I'd read in the book, that a Full Strength meaning 10 strength HQ supposedly effected the Morale or Readiness of a Unit? Or perhaps supply, I'm not sure exactly what the manual said it may have been a BetaTester who remarked on this. Is this true? Does a 5 strength HQ not support as well as a 10 strength and if an HQ only has 1 strength left does it matter?

  13. Japinard, real painful to do all that, headache in my opinion. Terif probably know's the assignment by Position but he's not home for now. I will you this, Just place your best HQ closest to the units you want it to Command, place your so so HQs out of the way... Do not put them too close to Rear Airfleets or you will get an undesired effect.. You just have to juggle where you put Low HQs and High HQs the Manual feature so far I haven't seen work

  15. Yes, Initially I was not too happy with Strategic Command 2, the turns were too slow for 56k and a lot of these guys are on dialup, also the gameplay was very actionpacked but there seemed a lot of mere rebuilding losses at a discount and then hopping right back in making or less a dull stalemate wargame... Then I realized after some evolution and some patches that got rid of a few minors bugs that the gameplay became smoother and that there are a lot more options to it. SC2 actually has a lot of SC1 in it, if you look at the overall, just greatly enhanced and although Destroyers, and say another Medium land unit and Medium air unit would've been my preference and a few more features I have hopes that perhaps "A Great Mod," or Hubert himself may fully implement the potential of this game. I do not see the current Fall Weiss as being the end all be all... Rockets are a unit that could be very easily converted into something useful. Just mod them off as Artillery, AA units, Naval Battery units, who knows, I'm certian you can edit all these features? Engineers into either a cheap Garrison unit or something else? Anyways well worth the money, as much due to the community as anything else. This has the most dedicated following and really the game is lowtech so anyone can play it with a 200 dollar computer and a 10-20 dollar net connection... It's the best WW2 Strategic Tactical Mix Wargame currently available and likely will remain at on the Throne for a couple years! Kudos HC
  16. Minty, will be impossible to implement that in the game engine you're right a 2ton torpedoe might actually hit 1 Panzer if you dropped 400 of them? those were specialized craft I doubt the Brits used them against Land units... HC is merely giving the Carrier a Flexible quality by letting it hit multiple targets You know what else is not reflected Sturmoviks, how many German Tanks did they kill thousands? The Pathetic Red Airforce can't kill 5 tanks I think that we should have a Medium-Divebomber Unit I suppose fighter aircraft are suppose to be responsible for this aspect but still, the Red Airforce sucks in SC2
  17. Morale boosts effected greatly showing an enemy is beatable, but you could get that from killing unit that would be reflected in Experience bars not in Morale... Morale wouldn't be effected "so greatly," by DOWing and conquoring a Minor or Liberating a Minor... Major Nations would effect Morale some, and for Russians? What did they care really? They wanted to conquor Germany for themselves, it effected their morale "minorly" whether or not we did this or that, each city they retook, was a Morale boost... You should cut off regions of a Nation and a Morale zone if you want to do it that way. For once the Russians booted the Germans from the Ukraine and White Russia they went up skyhigh and then 1 year later conquored Germany Now on the other hand Regional Morale may have had an effect. Winning in North Africa was a Morale Boost. Winning in the East for the Russians and then in the Balkans was likely a Boost enough to show them they were unstoppable and the Germans felt puny... Similarly in the West once the Allies had retook France they felt they could easily retake the Low Countries and failed at Arnhem, so beware of False Beliefs... I had a Great Uncle at Dunkirk, that in itself was a morale boost... There are many things that effect it other than Minors, I think it would be neat to see that reflected...
  18. I think it was the surprise at Taranto Those Swordfish were outdated biplanes, but without aircover and with a good pilot they could inflict damage. Though really they are capable of inflicting significant damage upon land units as well? You think this really possibe? I suppose they're meant to reflect abstractly other ships within the RAF armada of naval going vessels, I don't know, LOL just seems a little funny, 40 Swordfish Divebombing and destroying the 6th Army? So are they slightly more realistic in SC2, yeah sure and they did ferry spitfires and other neccessary airfact in and out of theatres, so if nothing else they were good for transport of Fighters. Perhaps, the game would better suite them to "No Land Attack," and cheapen the cost of RAF operational movement? Heh And let them hunt subs and target ships as they were meant, that and recon work The USA was an isolated nation it needed good Carriers and good Planes, the UK really could use Malta, Gibraltar, Egypt, it's Island, etc... It had good coverage for land bases to hit a lot of targets. I assume the USA doctrine was assuming if she went on the offensive she'd need Good Range and that she had with Good Fighters The RAF also likely didn't have the resources solely to devote to Carriers nor the same doctrines of the Japanese and US navy's
  19. Oddly enough, Strategic Command 2 Naval warfare is more like WW1, it's unlikely you'll ever bring out the Kriegsmarine the dread of the Baltic... You'll leave her in port in till the end of the war if you're smart.. and it's about the only real move you can make... The Bismark was going out to raid commerce, I think all Surface ships should have limited Commerce raiding abilities The Brits kept the Germans in check by blocking the North Sea in WW1 and WW2 the Germans raided Merchant shipping in both wars with surface ships..Some were more effective than U-Boats "Post the exploits of all the famous German commerce raiders, the famous engagements in the Artic Sea, South America, Indian Ocean, during WW2 , very impressive and very interesting!"
  20. If you have Spain in your pocket no need, and it's unlikely unless the Brits relocate their capitol to N.Africa Alexandria you will need to build Tirpitz there. A bigger prize would be getting Iraq, as it has a Capitol, 1 city, 1 port and Oilfield, plus access to Iran and eventually the USSR... I'd spend my money on that and leave Vichy till later when she's not a diplomatic nightmare...
  21. go into Hotseat and DOW Vichy negative effect is before Spain, you might lose some readiness, and you might increase US readiness before she enters I'd not bother Vichy till those two bases are covered and you do not get Vichy Algeria like the older versions in your pocket As Allies, taking Vichy is neither here nor there.. Just make sure you've sufficient units around the rock or the motors from France to plow it through in 1 turn, by the time the USA and UK is in you likely do not care too too much about what the Spaniards will say...
  22. Replay would rock! That way we could train that much faster!
  23. Carriers are difficult to cover accurately, I do not use them against many Naval Ships, only usually to "finish the job," when my Surface fleet is bottled up. You see in a seazone with 100 miles or more of space such the Straights between Norway and Denmark you still are crunched for space in a major naval engagement. That extra strike capacity of Carriers comes in useful for specialized jobs! However it's pretty much staple to use Carriers for the Primary Job, that is Land combat.. It is a excellent unit to add the last few blows in with LR it does the trick perfectly, though without experience, the cost on you, is beyond the value. Though if you need a breakthrough, imagine what 3 Carriers with LR2 or LR3 can do for you? They also are good against soft unentrenched targets that aren't on a city or resource. Carriers cannot get proper practice that is the worst part, as Experienced units do not take damage as easily opposite of SC1... Meanwhile Land Fighters pretty much soak up Damage and gain experience so long as the target is a corps or an army... Experience is way too high for Land Based Fighters Regardless, Carriers were very deadly weapons against Supply, and were good for special jobs, like subhunting. I believe carriers resupplied Malta before it was crushed, not much of an effort but a tiny one that did the trick. Carrier aircraft were more deadly in the Pacific where there was no landbased aircraft to the do the job. In SC2 fighters aren't such great tools vs Battleships I notice, which I do not mind. Honestly, Battleship fleets would have Destroyers and strong AntiAir Abilities.. Which I believe should be an upgrade quality to all Vessels to a certian "level," make for at least more use of AntiAir Radar... All the UK Carriers might benefit if they could find some softer targets to practice on, like 3-4 corps, or Mod them with 1 or 2 experience Bars.. You'd get the effect you all are thinking of with that at 'least'
  24. "You've much to learn my Apprentice " Land: Axis Losses Ballpark: 20-25 Units Allies Losses BallPark: 55-65 UK USSR Very few if any Naval Losses 2 Allied 2 Axis aprox Only 2 air fleets destroyed purposely during the Siege of Stalingrad [ September 19, 2006, 02:42 AM: Message edited by: Liam ]
  25. Germany vs England, live action report First off, I took on the Undefeated German Machine, with Allies... England was my primary Ace Trump Card! Was a very tough fight for me personally, as playing Terif's Axis, is like playing 2 or 3 other player's Axis so I tried to give it some of my better game... First of all, He took down all the initial Minors, went into France Early, 1939.. I fought back, by properly operating, and replacing Maginot units, but still only held out due to some luck till around April of 1940. Meanwhile England took Norway and convinced the Iraqi people that they should love the Crown, so we got convoys from Egypt, Norway and Iraq. He then proceeded to build up the Axis War Machine. He got Italy going and took the MiddleEast, without a contest from me really... He brought Spain in and soon after in 1940 took out Sweden and retook Norway. That was the end of my short Expansionist England..... however by this point, I had managed to purchase some United States convoys and readiness for a longer war of attrition against the Germans and their Axis.. Soviet Union prepared, primarily building Land technologies and even Advanced Fighter aircraft. However unfortunately never had Motors when they were needed. The British also had Longe Range and advanced Fighters... Which were used very efficiently to perform D-Day with the United States involved in the Summer of 1941... When Barbarossa kicked off, the Minors were all DOWed, the only two that Terif got were Iraq and Syria.. He counterDOWed Ireland so I couldn't get the Morale bonus.... Turkey was the only Neutral Left throughout the game Into the Snowy Depths of Russia... and a long bloody battle for Leningrad. The Soviets didn't manage to so much as dent German armor or units with Infantry Weapons 3, and antiTank 1... Sadly it was a downhill battle for the Germans and a meatgrinder for the Russians. We held the Caucasus until the bitter end and Soviet Russia only surrendered when our Capitol in Stalingrad was surrounded.. In Jan. 1943 In The west, attempts to break out of the Normandy BridgeHead, failed repeatedly until Allied Airpower made all the difference, it took a longggg time for our Infantry weapons to match that of the Axis and we managed to kill off half dozen Axis units and Liberate Paris.. However to no avail, as Russia was lost and was the war. With about 10 units in France Allied, 3 Bombers, 3 fighters... We had more HQs than we could use as losses were high vs very experienced and very well entrenched Axis positions. Germans were IW3, AT3 and this was unstoppable with experience bars even without a different in morale... The only two or three breakthoughs I can say all game is that I nearly brought the USA into the War in 1940 with good diplomacy, I also nearly killed of Manny... That would've perhaps bought some time... But not much else worth mentioning, I need to brush up my Allies in order to contest such a Axis Pro GG Terif and I look forward to more [ September 19, 2006, 02:48 AM: Message edited by: Liam ]
