  1. Just wondering if there has been a design philosophy set for SC2. Europe Revisited? Pacific Theater? Global? Rorkes Drift? Doesn't hurt to ask......
  2. One HOI thought---like it and play it but it truly is not my cup of tea..I can see me shelving the game down the road but still playing SC......anyone remember SPI's attempt at a simple WWII global war game?...It was a traditional sized game map, and Germany was represented by perhaps 6 hexes total if that, a complete waste...I mentioned this before in other threads, does anyone have a clue what type of game SC2 will be?...seems that all these suggestions are just like spitting into the wind until this important fact is known....
  3. Good point, but perhaps if enough people try this, we may get a better sampling of how it plays out....and who knows, maybe simply playing the game with fow on all the times, but you do not watch the AI moves may make for a better challenge...don't really know about that one though...need to give it a whirl. 4. I've been toying around with this idea. Try playing a game with the following conditions: -In options, click on "Allow rule/political changes to be made...." -If you are playing Axis, have fow on at the start of your turn. -After completing your turn, cover the map section with a piece of cardboard, then click options and disable fow. -Keep the map covered and just listen to the allies action. Don't view any of the AI move -When you hear the turn is over, go back into options and reactivate fow..now, remove the cardboard and survey what has been done...it makes it interesting, especially in large battles, because you may now see some of your units missing as they were eliminated and their spotting abilities gone...you never see what actually attacked your forces. -play your turn, cover the map, then once again turn fow off...repeat as necessary You will also not see the Partisian activity announcement so be wary of that occurance once you view the screen again! It makes for a different game, believe me!.. [ January 17, 2003, 01:15 PM: Message edited by: J P Wagner ]
  5. Unless there is a change in the original plans, there will be no more patches for SC1....Hubert is starting work on SC2...
  6. Well in the end, it comes down to personal preference with no one being right or wrong. I use the unit and graphic mods for the simple reason that I like them....no deep analysis needed here... [ January 14, 2003, 12:34 PM: Message edited by: J P Wagner ]
  7. Ahhh...the word "backorder", the bane for all consumers but a blessing for the company!..
  8. I think many of us came to SC from the CM route...
  9. Arby, Uncommon Valor from Matrix is a good start on how a turn based strategic game can be made in the Pacific...one design decision was to make land unit counters small, so you actually can do some maneuvering around Guadalcanal and New Guinea...be forward however, the game is very detailed with a high learning curve..um....well, for me at least anyway.. 10. Not really sure cruzzer what you are looking for...the most important consideration is that the demo, gameplay wise, is basically the complete version, except of course for the time limit...there are no disabled enhancements or features, especially in solo play, that you are not privy to. The last patch does make the game play much better than the demo though, and that cannot be ignored. So, if you like the demo, you will enjoy the game that much more. If you are not impressed by it, then this game is not for you. [ January 09, 2003, 11:36 AM: Message edited by: J P Wagner ]
  11. If everybody had their choice, would they like to see: A. SC2 be a European Expansion of SC? B. SC2 be a Pacific Theater Operation? C. SC2 be a global Strategic game? For me, I wouldn't mind seeing SC2 stay in Europe, but with a much larger map and of course many of the features discussed in these forums. 12. Along the lines of what Hueristic said, I try to hide my two North Atlantic Subs at the top portion of the map until at least France has fallen...if I have an upgrade all the better...I then try a North Atlantic run to the French coast, using a destroyer in the channel to try baiting the UK fleet away....trying a North Atlantic campaign early on usually will result in their demise. The trade off of 11 or 18 UK MPP's isn't worth the loss of the two subs...of course this tactic is usually only good against the AI, and sometimes not even then. A Human player though may hunt them down no matter where they are. Has anyone ever disbanded the two U boats for the cash? I never thought of it until now, and I just wonder if it's a feasible option? [ January 07, 2003, 11:36 PM: Message edited by: J P Wagner ]
  13. Of course if SC2 is set in the Pacific then it's a waste of time worrying about the Dutch Gambit. Any news on that front from Hubert?... However, I don't like the idea of preventing an aspect of the game from occuring just because it seems a bit ahistorical. Why not prevent attacking Spain, Turkey, and Sweden while you are at it?
  14. Well, since the north atlantic is represented like a sandbox, one should go after the U-boats. The need to resurrect the North Atlantic thread would be handy right about now.... http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=18;t=001653
  15. But give Rambo credit where credit is due, whether one considers it gamey or not, how many people would have thought of his Leningrad move? If it's allowed in the game, then the game mechanics need to be questioned. [ January 02, 2003, 11:29 AM: Message edited by: J P Wagner ]
  16. Initial play agianst the AI at the highest difficulty level will be fun and a challenge especially as the Allies. But, like any other game, you will soon be able to understand much of what the AI will do, especially if you always try following a historical path....the fun truly comes in when you try 'ahistorical' ventures like attacking Spain, Turkey, Sweden ect. Try launching a UK attack into Turkey and see what happens...you will have a good time playing this game...enjoy! [ January 01, 2003, 11:55 AM: Message edited by: J P Wagner ]
  17. Considering the court case between Microsoft and Sun concerning Java, one wonders if it's only a coincidence.... http://java.sun.com/lawsuit/
  18. I never knew that about the 'easter eggs' in the paragraph books...I never read them through, I guess to keep the game fresh, but I will now...uh...after I play it again that is...
  19. I bought a 3DO game consol for only one game, Panzer General!... I didn't have a computer at the time so I always would stare at the original DOS version of the game and wonder when I would ever be able to play a military sim without the need to dig up a human opponent! 3DO's Panzer General was my first break away from my board gaming past...I still own Avalon Hill's attempts at solitaire wargaming... there was the AMBUSH series which had three modules as follow ups, then they came out with BATTLE HYMN which was a pacific theater version of Ambush, along with it's module LEATHER NECKS...they were good but for me, the best solitaire game was RAID ON ST. NAZZAIRE...I think I'll wipe the dust off these games and give them another whirl!
  20. With Poland, I never counterattack the Germans...all you do is lose entrenchment values and strength points...I pull back and surround the capital, reinforce each turn and just take a beating until my time is up...depending on the luck of the strength point lose, you can gain an extra turn or two that way..I do something similiar in France, though I don't pull back as much...Using Bill Macon's mod I had the French Armor unit holding out against repeated attacks as I simply reinforced it. Then a 1 sp German unit was next to it so I attacked it...big mistake...I lost what entrenchment I had and the armor unit was wiped out the next turn...so it buys you alittle extra time, which, in the early stages of the war is important.... 21. I think it would be beneficial to know what type of game SC2 will be before continuing with suggestions...some ideas that have been mentioned may not apply if the game covers a different scale or theater of operation. Once the design philosophy for SC2 is known then everyone can go to town with their thoughts...having a 'Future Ideas and Wish List' would certainly help when the time comes...
  22. His thoughts on France are very good... maintaining entrenchment levels by not counter-attacking could help France survive a turn or two more which helps the overall Allied cause...
  23. Does anyone have an idea what SC2 will encompass? A new European version? Pacific? Global? Just wondering if I missed something from a previous thread....
  24. Jersey, you bring back memories with Midway...I remember how I occasionally used to "cheat in reverse"...for the hell of it I would let my opponent always spot me..used to do that with Battleship too, always announcing HIT no matter what just to see the amazed expression on my friends face...I think I was the only one to actually move my pieces into the line of fire just to see the reactions... 25. I used a translator for the above post...for better or worse here it is.... Greetings.... And leido all the ideas that in this quarter express. They are very good, really that if, I hope that many of them are taken into account for the accomplishment of SC 2 which many of us we hoped to see time soon. Or at least one update, although law that no longer querian to make but PACHES. Reading all these ideas, I did not saw one which talked about cracion of a group that is of Green Berets (Green Berets), gustaria me that east group existed, I think that they podrian to be a group that has much assault forces against cities, is to say that they are lethal like assault units, on the other hand do not deberian to have much force to defend sinedo asi the lebil side of this unit. The Green Berets was a key very important in the history of the War (I imagine that all that losabes) pro that for adding these units to the game, serious a good point from all the points of view. He is everything, and I clarify that I am deacuerdo with many of the ideas that in this quarter are expressed, hoping that they are taken into account for future updates.
