  1. My advice would be (, if you try (a) on unsurpressed infantry positions you will get slaughtered, even more so if they are defending in foxholes. Maybe try dismounting a couple of squads in the nearby cover to provide surpressing fire backed up by the HT's until you have the enemy cowering then advance the still mounted units right ontop of them for close assault. Beware of anti-tank rifles, they will rip through your flimsy HT's !
  2. Thanks for all your hard work Panzerman... i look forward to battling through them all !
  3. Great links, thanks Vikinghead ! Now, if only i could speak Polish...
  4. Cant wait to thunder through the Crimea ! The mountains look superb
  5. If any of you mod experts are bored and wanting a new vehicle to mod, can i have one of these please?! The stock grey one is a bit 'pants' (or does anyone know if there is one already done?)
  6. I've just completed into the void and the 'farm battle' (forgotten name) as Germans solo play and found both battles very challenging against the AI. Just started 'deep probe 6th army'.
  7. Louie, check out the Operation Storfang battles for your technique, they have huge sprawling (very realistic terrain) maps and the fighting can certainly be spread wide and isolated from each other. It would seem just the ticket for your command proposals.
  8. Thanks for the 'mention in dispatches' ! Just completed battle 3 of A2. Very hard fighting amongst this broken, rocky and hilly terrain. Ammunition becomes a real factor when trying to 'root-out' the enemy amongst this territory and over 40 turns. Not sure wether increasing the ammo loadouts would be realistic ? but i would say by turn 30 over 75% of my force was out of ammo...not good when the Russians decided to launch a late counter-attack against my weary depleted troops ! The rocks provide excellent cover to a defending force, arty seemed to be the only effective way of neutralising them and unfortunately the heavy railway guns take a long time to target onto them (14 minutes!). These battles certainly test your battle 'mettle'. Salute !
  9. Hehe, see told you Eichebaum ! ...the rocks look excellent and will be a very popular download ! I cant wait to get to grips with the accurate 'GPS' type terrain circa 1942. Do you have operations maps from that time too? showing divisional/army group advances/deployments ? Be good to measure our progress against the historical counterparts.
  10. Thanks Oddball, i shall download a few and have a listen !....the sound that i wont mess with is the 'ripping' MG42, unless you say you've improved that too ?
  11. Oddball, 'scuse my ignorance, but what are the father of sound mods?...are they realistic replacements for the in-game sounds or just sound bytes from movies? I have seen them a few times on the cmmod site but no description and would certainly download them if they enhance the battle sounds.
  12. Eichenbaum, i just downloaded the 'Summer Shacks' mod (by Juju?) and am using those in your A2 battle...they look great and very rustic, perhaps you could add them in?..though i am no expert on Crimean architecture of the 1940's !
  13. I'm with Yankee Dog !...i'm loving using the recon elements properly through this great terrain, and having armoured columns with trucks etc stretched out down forest lanes prone to partisan ambush/air attack waiting to move ahead once enemy dispositions are spotted....Realism being the key word!
  14. Here here to Lassners praise for all your hard work !..However, i am enjoying these battles because they ARE large! For once we get to use recon elements properly to scout the terrain and locate enemy positions, before deploying our forces off the march, ready to engage or take out enemy fortifications. Having 3km maps gives opportunites to deploy in battle formations and try differing avenues of attack. Not to mention the realistic and varying terrain that you get to encounter and fight over, presenting you with the sort of dilemnas a commander of that time may have faced (without the lice!), like advancing down a mountain road with no room for deploying or fighting off partisans in large forests etc. There are certain turns (in A1)that seem long for the AI, but read a book whilst you wait! I have only got a P3 1.4 and the battles move reasonably okay on that. These bigger battles present new challenges to us commanders and i'm all for that!
  15. I agree with JonS the gap between the two wall maps looks a little odd ! Some war paraphanalia would add to the atmosphere too, like a schmeisser hanging on the wall, or a helmet on the table. Personally i would prefer a CP type interior more in keeping with a German army rapidly on the move, like a wooden bunker strewn with maps and wirelesses. The command post bunker in the film 'Cross of Iron' would be a good indicator !
  16. Jeez, how big is that map?!....looks frikkin huge!...and what does Rumanische torte translate to ?...doesn't sound healthy. No wonder its taken a while to release !
  17. Nils, i have posted my AAR for battle 3 of B1 on your website. Bring on A2 !...my men can smell the salty air of Sevastopol.

  19. Perhaps your posts need bumping to keep it fresh in peoples browsing eyes !? I'm sure the enthusiasts on this forum would enjoy the challenge of your campaign and die for your realistic maps !! I am still on the third battle of B1...just love that winding mountain road !..seems very realistic descending into the valley (of death!). I am now in a race of time to reach that bridge though.....Karbide, Raus.
  20. Too easy? I dont agree with that statement, other than the fact that the Russians (in my battle) withdrew from good defensive positions at the start of each new battle, but they certainly gave me a hard time, counter-attacking on both flanks, not to mention the bunker complex! I think it was too easy to get the password, maybe a couple of hard to attain victory objectives might have helped (was there a design reason for not having any?). I dont really think the Germans needed any extra forces than what we are given, but i would add some Luftwaffe support for authenticity. Having said all that most of my infantry casualties came only in the 4th battle from the heavy russki artillery..at least 45 men were wiped out instantly in the opening minutes from a nasty barrage in two places !
  21. Sucker them in close and take them out with infantry assaults!..that has been my succesful tactic so far in PBEM battles. In a recent 1941 scenario my opponent came at me with what he thought was a fairly invincible 'troop'of KV's,5 in all, 1 i immobilised with a PZ3, and the other 4 were taken out by pioneers and infantry hiding amongst the nearest cover..cost me about 6 men,he lost 5 heavy tanks, quickly followed by the battle ! Of course if he stands off, you need one of the aforementioned 88 AA guns or field guns to damage/immobilise them.
  22. Von Nev, i agree with what you are saying, i found it frustrating the Russians 'bugged-out' from what should be defensive positions, especially as i deployed myself to take on certain objectives only to find them un-inhabited and therefore wasting valuable time, especially, as you mentioned, the meagre 15 minute battle-time available! In Eichenbaums defence, he did release this out for 'testing' and i'm sure will take all this feedback into account for the following battles, which i'm looking forwards to, and no doubt the Ops will evolve/refine from suggestions from guys like us. I think your idea about the 60 turn scenario with reinforcements at set turns is a good idea and like you say, would certainly cure some o the problems we've encountered so far. A Marine huh?...glad i didn't bad mouth you ! Salute ! [ July 13, 2003, 06:23 AM: Message edited by: JaegerMeister ]
  23. On the gamey tactics thing, and i'm not having a go at anyone, but i really dont understand why people want to play a tactical simulation game like CMBB which attempts to be as realistic as it can, and use arcade type tactics or 'cheats'...who are you cheating? just your own tactical skill ! In my own small way i want to emulate the difficulties that the commanders of those times endured and win in difficult circumstances as i'm sure most on this forum do, otherwise you may as well play 'suddden strike' or games like that! ..gets off high horse!
