Reliable AA defense

They're a bomb magnet. Rather that truck than your Tiger, eh? -
Reliable AA defense
Bone_Vulture replied to Krautman's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
That is the best suggestion yet. If you don't have trucks at your disposal, go for 37mm or quad 20mm flaks. They're relatively easy to haul and also useful in anti-infantry duty. The 37mm piece will also blow holes to light armored vehicles. -
Fire orders disappear
Bone_Vulture replied to thefish7's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Uh.... Roadblocks are indestructible, that's why your infantry gun ceased firing. Bunker crews never get pinned, and mortar rounds barely dent concrete structures. Try going for firing slit penetrations with direct fire guns, like the mentioned infantry gun above. -

Those questions indeed must be answered before solutions can be given. -
Steppe in Finland? (Terrain question)
Bone_Vulture replied to Holman's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Steppe is considered "high grass" of sort. It provides absolutely no cover, but a bit of concealment. Sneaking troops might traverse through steppe unnoticed. I don't think steppe was common in Finland; a combination of tightly knit forest and grain fields is more realistic. Oh, and there's gotta be a lake and a couple of hay barns. -

Does Peng have a hollow charge?
Bone_Vulture replied to 37mm's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
I cannot say for sure. Since the contents of the "Peng" thread never rises beyond endless drivel, I really can't tell the difference. It could've been days? Months? ... Decades? You may address me as either the Grand Duke or Duchess of Coventry from now on. G'day. -

Now, this is a mystery that has puzzled me for a long time. Are there actually "pengers" who are of female gender, or are you simply referring to the lady-like, feminine males who frequent this house of ill repute? -

No route for vehicles
Bone_Vulture replied to chiavarm's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
That's odd - even when taking most forest heavy map settings, I've never encountered a map that'd block all vehicle movement across it. -
No, actually it is Ersatzgruppen. Michael was right all along.
-
No?

Trust me, I'll be pestering you a long time for your earlier lack of etiquette.

Like Mr. Dorosh nicely pointed out, standardized ammunition (and the smalles possible amount of ammunition types to begin with) was critical in order to minimize the maintenance burden each infantry formation caused.

t34s vs. tiger, please help
Bone_Vulture replied to Rudy's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
No hard feelings. But you could've received the perfect answers in the first three replies, had you mentioned the specific type of your T-34's in the initial post. Attempting to take down a Tiger with a vanilla 76mm gun T-34 = suicidal without concentrated effort of superior numbers Attempting to take down a Tiger with a funky fresh 85mm gun T-34 = challenging at most, since the big cat only has slightly better armor, and is a lot more clumsier. -
t34s vs. tiger, please help
Bone_Vulture replied to Rudy's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
It will kill the damn Tiger at just about any range! Don't leave such crucial details out of your initial query. -
Finally got to use the SturmTiger
Bone_Vulture replied to securityguard's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Sturmtiger is like a battleship: it needs mobile AT escorts to defend itself from small enemies. -
My top three reasons: 1) Munitions production capacity 2) Logistics, especially on the eastern front 3) German combat doctrine that relied on MG's as the automatic weapon of choice.
-
You never thought about that? Shame on you. I figured you had already exhausted that option. Try reversing to the corner of a forest tile; with a bit of aiming, you can land a non-mobile field gun on it, and secure a good field of fire.
-
It all depends on whether your transports are trucks or halftracks. The latter can move in just about any terrain and are resilient against small arms fire, while the former will likely explode if it comes in contact with mud. Either way, try moving the camera to ground level, and seek for rugged hilltops that offer a view to the crucial areas, namely the victory flags. Attempt to move your tow vehicles behind the cover of slopes and foliage, and let the towed gun move to the ideal position itself from behind the cover. Hm, could you send a screenshot of the scenario? It'd be easier to give hints them.

Effectiveness of Arty vs. AFVs
Bone_Vulture replied to Tigrii's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
No, direct hits aren't necessary to knock out a tank. My artillery barrage of Soviet 203mm rounds once took out an early war Panzer III with a round that landed some 15 meters away. Or try the Sturmtiger's rocket - that'll wipe out light tanks at a massive radius. -
Which army would you fight with?
Bone_Vulture replied to ErikinWest's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Actually, we do take offense. But being such a quiet nation, we do not wish to show our feelings. That is why we're currently collecting money for plane tickets so that we can track down every forum member who uses this derogatory term and personally smack them in the face with a shovel. Or no, we're not offended by that. I think. -

This is the part where the chase turns out to be better than the catch... Sergei, let's just call it a cease fire and let Michael Dorosh handle the incessant steaming, ok? From now on, I'll refer to anyone using the "Jap" contraction as an "idiot". Problem solved. -
