  1. Yep, it would appear that the Soviets weren't too concerned about German armor when the decision to choose the 122mm guns over the 100mm variant was made. Obviously the HE potency of the shell was an important factor.
  2. And for the love of God, forget about towing the heavy, immobile 88's. It's hard to place them in the required cover (woods / rough), and they have a hideous setup time. If you're playing the Germans, the 75mm PAK is usually way enough to handle any Russian tank. Look for a strip of forest that both blocks LOS to your enemy's position and offers a good fire line there. Recon the forest with several small infantry teams, and tow the gun to your edge of the forest. Disembark the gun, and let the crew move it across the forest to establish a line of fire to the enemy. Actually, I've never tried this earlier, but it might be possible to give your AT gun an armor cover arc, and maneuver it with move-to-contact orders, thus making sure that the gun will start setting up as soon as soon as it has a LOF to the first enemy tank.
  3. Also notice that firing all the munitions simultaneously gives a huge edge in CM: your enemy doesn't have any time to adapt to the barrage. It's there, it's gone, and then your troops come rolling in. The only problem is the hideous inaccuracy, that both reduces the rocket bombardment's potency in comparison to it's cost, and also widens the safe distance to the fire zone, forcing your troops to maneuver from a further distance after the rockets have landed.
  4. Isn't that what I just said? Anyway, if the tank in that pic would be modelled in CM, it'd be immobilized due to bogging already. Perhaps the Finnish Stugs should be modelled differently? Perhaps a special "Finn bonus" that'd cause the Stug to maneuver like it had a ground pressure of like 0.5 kg per cm^2?
  5. All I can think of is the Stug's already horrible ground pressure combined with an additional couple of tons of body mass... In a forest terrain. I don't think that could be modelled in CM, except as an ad hoc AT bunker.
  6. Just to check: do your troops have any AT assets in the first place? Assaulting an armored vehicle heavier than an AC/halftrack without AT equipment like magnetic mines or panzerfausts is usually the fastest ticket to graveyard for your infantry. [EDIT] Ah, sorry... You mentioned grenade bundles. But those are still one of the poorest AT weapons. [ November 16, 2003, 05:52 PM: Message edited by: Bone_Vulture ]
  7. Also, how fast was the panzer moving at that time? I've noticed that even motionless infantry squads sometimes don't have time to "adjust" their aim if a particularly fast moving vehicle rolls by. But that'd be realistic, eh?
  8. Possibly on hole welded metal plates?
  9. It means that aside from getting a hot poker shoved up my rear I'll simultaneously get to enjoy the worst comedy ever for all eternity!
  10. I assume you have an unique password. It's likely that your opponent fell to the dark side for a moment and took a sneak peek at your force composition and likely troop locations by booting up the scenario with your side.
  11. If hell has a television network, all the sitcoms there are written by WW2 history fans...
  12. Should this be modelled in CM3? The "bottle of alcohol forgotten in the breech affecting the color of the flame" variable.
  13. So it wasn't a radio spotter in the end? Such a waste of time!
  14. 1) Kick up the game, and get a good perspective on the spotter + and make sure it's seelected so we see the stats. 2) Press "print screen" 3) Exit CM (either quit or place it in the background), and start MS Paint for instance. 4) Press Ctrl+V, the image that was on screen when you pressed "print screen" should now appear in Paint. Save it. 5) It's also recommended that you compress the pic before you host it online, since 500kb .bmp files tend to eat reserved bandwidth up real fast. But this is another story, try to get a decent screen cap first.
  15. Is he going to call a... Mortar strike? Please send a screenshot soon before I succumb to these lousy jokes!
  16. You mean, roll up their sleeves and make bad jokes like, "the engine won't start huh? Maybe it's a beta!"?
  17. So much... poor humor... Condensed to a single thread. Take a damn screenshot!
  18. For a moment I thought you were talking about software piracy...
  19. Again, it's a question of identification. Tanks are very efficient in taking out inf guns with no AT capability, but trying to tackle a powerful AT gun usually leads to defeat.
