  1. but move-to-contact become helpless as soon as 1 lone LMG, or whatever unit you don't care of, is in LOS of your troops. then if you want to move to contact carefully (for example in woods, towards known ennemy position), you have no choice but the "move" order. Could someone give the link to the Kwazydog post on this subject ? Thanks
  2. Very good point ! Currently, I have to take a look at the Scenario Depot (great site BTW !), to see what side I should take vs AI, and the ammount (if any) of bonus i should give the AI, in order to have a "fair" play against it. For the Scenarios on the CD particularly, I miss the " best played vs AI from this side, give 25 % bonus" in the briefing.
  3. It has been already discussed on several good threads, one of them was called "infantry too brittle?" IIRC
  4. My time advance is small indeed, compared to our aussie fellows... 10 hours ahead of me ! No no, I'm not bumping
  5. so, we have to wait for the 1st November, until we can really bother again the BFC team for a release date ?...
  6. for the french-speaking players, look at appui-Feu
  7. Like LOS, we could imagine LOH (Line Of Hearing), which for example would be very "short" (u can't hear above 30m) if there is an arty barrage falling nearby. It would be a step beyond the actual "static" management (LOH is shorter if it's raining, but has a predefined length). Maybe for the rewrite? Wth the updated suppression model, I find you need even more suppressing fire over suspected ennemy area (marked by sound contact), thus highlighting the importance of the noise management.
  8. Thanks Wolfe. Don't worry, I'll check myself for the updates and so on, I won't bother in anyway you with it. I'll just pick the updates like the average CM player, so glad to find such great stuff !...
  9. *Bumping* And by the way, I'm keen on doing a french translation of this very good informative thread, for the french CM-community site Appui-Feu. I don't want to violate any copyright here, so I' asking for your permission, Chad [ October 25, 2002, 11:55 AM: Message edited by: Sigurd ]
  10. *Bump* Do you mind if I make a french translation of your very good work ? The translated database would be hosted on the french CM community site Appui-Feu
  11. CMplayer, BTS could solve this problem (which is annoying me too) in another way : for example by tweaking the fighting/casualties window in the unit info screen (at the bottom of the screen). By adding a third category, or whatever.
  12. I totally agree with your concern, Apex. I got several times successful platoons in defense, but finally they ran out of amno and get slaughtered, because I was unable to make them fall back. In that latter case, if i tried making them advance to the rear, the result was the same : they were all dead bodies...
  13. Maybe I'm a bit off-topic, but can planes hit other's side planes ? That is, have they got an AA capacity ? In RL, it would be plausible for a ME-109 to shoot down those Yak. But perhaps it's out of the scale of CM engagements.
  14. Would the new engine only be used for a mediterranean campaign ? I'd love to see CMBO and CMBB revisited with this new engine. Is that not the meaning of a #RE#-write?...
  15. wwb, what do you mean by your 3rd remark, about setup zone and 0m no man's land ? what's the rrlation with the AI inactivity ?
  16. Is the problem not solved by the "curved" characteristic of the turret ? I think the T-34 turret is modelled so. Does it not mean the chance of impact at a perpendicular angle is highly reduced?
  17. I find the bomb effect stuff quite srprising, have some here encountered such devastating effects of aircrafts bombs ?
  18. I have encountered the exact same problems as Sabrewolfs several times. I've got a US mac version, and you guys ? (perhaps it depends of a specific mac or pc platform ?)
  19. From Rex, concerning the grouping of cover arc commands : Thanks for the clear, definitive answer. I understand the Pb. BTW I agree with MikeyD concerning the commander of the KV-1, needing much time to occupate the right seat, when he buttons up. Then delaying the first shot. Is it possible to implement this without too much coding ?... I read elsewhere on this forum that bad ergonomics caused some early Russian tanks to be quite ineffective. Is it only reflected by actual ROF / spotting abilities / inexperienced crews / 2 man-turet penalties? or is there some hard coding to translate those especially bad ergonomics ? (but for the most part, I'm already happy with it, I find the existing tank modeling far more enjoyable, in comparaison with CMBO !) [ October 09, 2002, 11:51 AM: Message edited by: Sigurd ]
  20. good introduction of CM (and more generally real world) tactics. Newcomers can always take a look at the tutorials at Madmatt's Combat Mission HQ They'll find SRE means Search and Recon Elements, and MLR Main Line of Resistance and that it's sometimes best to fall back the forward elements to the reserve, than moving forward the reserve. (just as example of something weird for newbies at the first sight, i think)
  21. I've heard it's a molotov coktail launcher. not accurate at all, and at short ranges (correct me if I'm wrong)
  22. A small request about the cover arc gestion : it would be nice to issue the same cover arc order to several units at the same time, as we did with the ambush order in CMBO. ( by double clicking an HQ then target the ambush marker) thus : i'll save up time AND trigger all covered arcs at the same time. I miss this ability.
  23. To sum up, the third idea of Andrew concerning this thread would be correct for Tiger and JT: (3) The books are correct, but our descriptions of optics don't mean exactly what you think they mean; And concerning the KT, you think the current CMBB model suit the Ari remarks too ?
