  1. Could you link the post you are referring to above? Thanks.
  2. I'd love love love the ability to independently set each difficulty aspect - enemy spotting, friendly spotting, etc. Until they add the ability to pause & issue orders to Elite, I'm sticking with Veteran. After that we'll have to see whether the friendly spotting rules (which I don't want) keep me from playing with the harder enemy spotting rules (which I think I want).
  3. Got it, I see now. I thought you were just talking generally, like a AFV rumbling down the street, which is why I got confused.
  4. Bahger, how many waypoints do you use in urban areas? For example, if you're approaching an intersection, and you want to reach a point down the road after turning left at the intersection, do you use two waypoints or one?
  5. Edit: nevermind - misread Achim's post to be about an error I make a lot in the CM series.
  6. Steve has stated that the pause feature WILL be added to the Elite difficulty level. Im guessing in the next patch. </font>
  7. Great stuff. Should you really use an area fire command for Javelins, though, instead of a specific target or covered arc? As Steve noted in another thread, Javelins should never miss.
  8. No, I agree with this. I wouldn't say "annoyed" but would say it would be a "nice to have" feature to have the menu tabs reset every time you pick a new unit.
  9. I'll chime in with my pause wishlist. These aren't deal breakers for me, but they are "nice to have" and perhaps the 2nd would be so much more for people who want to simulate WE-GO in TCP/IP: 1. Concur w/ you on Elite/Pause. I really would like to see a "Veteran Plus" difficulty level that brings in all of the realism settings, but keeps the ability to give orders during a pause. Even better would be an option to adjust each of the difficulty/realism items independently. 2. An option to allow both players in a two player direct connect game to choose a setting whereby the game automatic pauses every [X] seconds/minutes, where X is a setting that must be agreed upon by the players. Steve has pointed out why the normal pause feature won't work in RT, but I wonder whether this workaround would remove the technical impediment. If the game automatically just paused every minute to allow the players to enter orders, look around, catch their breaths, etc., and only restarted when each player canceled the pause, then (IMO at least) you have essentially simulated WE-GO in real time mode.
  10. Of course I have it. I'm one of the CMSF beta testers (which I think means I may be lynched by the more rabid Gollum like 'we hatessssss it my preciuosssssss, we hateeesssssss it' crowd). </font>
  11. Were you playing on Elite difficulty or 2 player? Otherwise, there should have been no time pressure due to the pause function. I really would like to see a "Veteran Plus" difficulty level that brings in all of the realism settings, but keeps the ability to give orders during a pause. Even better would be an option to adjust each of the difficulty/realism items independently. Another item on my wishlist would be an option to allow both players in a two player game to agree for automatic pauses every [X] seconds/minutes, where X is a setting that must be agreed upon by the players. Just some thoughts. I don't code and know nothing about how hard these things are. Maybe they are impossible; maybe not. I know nothing about coding and thus nothing about how hard this is,
  12. I think you're getting what I'm saying - I actually do have to run but go check my post to Michael on the other page. The "non-gamer" crack is intended to expose an ad-hominen common in the exclusive wargaming crowd. I loathe it, thus would rather see arguments that can stand on their own merit. You should get a 360. Gears is awesone. But it is coming to PC, so definitely catch it.
  13. CliffyB = Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Unreal engine.
  14. At least now I know your hot buttons. BTW, most of those games suck. But if you play DICE shooters rather than CliffyB's or Carmack's, maybe you really aren't a gamer. Dunno. Two choices I suppose. Someone who feels so offended that he can't see my point, or an ass who intentionally distorts it. Only you know.
  15. I stand by this. The defining RTS games are so prevalent and well understood that anyone who - honestly, instead of by way of attack - suggests that CMSF is an RTS simply cannot be a gamer as that term is understood. They must be people who pick up the game because it covers a topic they like but who do not otherwise play video and computer games.</font>
  16. Since when? Oh, wait... were you one of the 3 <small>wifflers</small> I took on and beat the complete crap out of? Now THAT was the Cesspool in all it's glory. Not this el lame-o spouting off by Joe "Little Miss Round-Heels" Shaw! </font>
  17. Yeah, I can see how you would feel constrained. But having come from playing board games and other turn-based stuff, it feels better.(And no, im not old, just a wierd turn-based playing youngster (20s) ) That and I suck at controlling stuff in RT. So RT for me has always been something to mess around with in single player, where I usually cant keep up with the masters in RTS. I just wish the camera was working as well for me as it seems to for others. That would probably increase my ability to control by quite a bit if I could actually use my shift and WASD keys. The mouse has been too jumpy at low levels. But hopefully that is something that will be fixed before too long as im not the only one with the problem. </font>
  18. Yup. Unless they have a change of heart(which is not likely ), it's always been like this with CM. </font>
  19. D&D (used to be AD&D) is okay, Cyberpunk 2020 passes, Hârn is only for grogs and stay well away from Runequest, nomen est omen and all that. </font>
  20. The best I can say in response to this is to caution you to quote me rather than to quote your own gloss on my words, then. For reference, here is the quote: I stand by this. The defining RTS games are so prevalent and well understood that anyone who - honestly, instead of by way of attack - suggests that CMSF is an RTS simply cannot be a gamer as that term is understood. They must be people who pick up the game because it covers a topic they like but who do not otherwise play video and computer games. Of course, as you should understand by now, I don't believe that anyone labels CMSF as an RTS in an "innocent" fashion. Read above to my reply to Michael as to why. 21. Michael, unfortunately, that's not what is happening. In the wargamer community, there is a meme that games like Starcraft, Warcraft, etc. are "lesser" games that "kids" play, while "real wargames" - things that HPS simulations would put out (sorry HPS! ) are not just games, but some sort of character building, intellect revealing occupation in which only the world's great thinkers partake. Thus, RTS is used in wargame forums as an assault on the game - that it is childish, simple, not nearly so pure and high-brow as, say chess (a game with speed variety for god's sake!). I reject this idea in its totality, as I think that RTS games require skill and talent, and are enjoyed by many bright, intelligent people. Since CMSF is not an RTS at all, it is appropriate to eviscerate the suggestion by revealing the obvious: that the proponent is either ignorant of the genre of which they try to pigeon-hole the game, or is using the term as an ad hominem. 22. I didn't do that. Reread it. I labeled those who suggest that CMSF is an RTS game as - at best - non-gamers. At worst they are being deliberately disingenous. Sort of like suggesting that I was applying any label of any sort to people who don't like turn-based. But you weren't being disingenous, were you?
  23. A sunday evening is a great time for catharsis.
