  1. What about the "Turning Point: Stalingrad" approach? Generally, once the unit attacked, it had to wait another few days before it could do anything other than defend and move very slowly. Fairly simple mechanic without the detailed replacement pool. "The Longest Day" also had a bit of this, then threw in replacement units too.
  2. Silly me - I was trying to get there via the Canadian Soldiers site. Danke.
  3. Here're the Russian wavs. The links for the German list seem to be broken...possibly wiped out during the last "crash". I dug it out of the "translation" search I did on the CMBB forum, which produced this link. [Kaiser Soze 71's bit]. Keep digging...I could swear that another www site has a table of all the translations...I thought it was Michael Dorosh's site, but I didn't see it there. I didn't log it into my favourites nor download it anywhere obvious.
  4. [Edit: on my keyboard, the "0252" has to be typed using the number pad, not the number/symbol row.] Thanks, JonS, I'll try to keep that info someplace handy. BF.C - please make this a sticky forum or place this keyboard tidbit in the FAQ. [ April 08, 2004, 09:19 AM: Message edited by: Brent Pollock ]
  5. Yah - weird, eh? Looks like it's made out of little pieces of paper. The grey ones are the dirt road tiles. I didn't bother looking at what made the big tiles different from the smallest ones [edit: hmmm...I guess the big ones are the underlaying grid, and the tiny ones are fill-ins to the big ones]. If you stare at it enough, you'll be able to pick out AFV Sound Contacts, fences and such like. [ April 07, 2004, 12:33 PM: Message edited by: Brent Pollock ]
  6. I don't know about favourite, but this glitch just showed up...maybe I caught it just at the right time before the CD had finished booting: bizarre overhead shot
  7. Surprisingly [to me], my English-German dictionary has a listing for it: "der Knu:ppeldamm". [the ":" represents the umlaut over the "u"...haven't figured out how to post that typeset.] And here I was just going to guess it would be "Kord-von-Kaiser"
  8. Ditto: just had a platoon HQ toss one on the fly during an Advance move. No height advantage though. Hit it with a Top Penetration and the crew bailed out a few seconds later and surrendered. The crew showed two casualties. The HQ has the Pz III in the kill stat section, too.
  9. Yah - John nails it fairly well. I've found sometimes with mech-infantry forces that they can face the decision of having to abandon prisoners or escort them at walking speed. It'd be nice to force them into the taxi at gunpoint. I can see not allowing prisoners unescorted into vehicles (e.g. no friendlies in the truck except fot the driver).
  10. Played it as Axis vs AI many moons ago...won at least a Tactical victory....let's see what all I remember. ***SPOILERS**** Initial Plan (labels/directions based on Warhawk's map from the above link): A Coy (west edge group) massed to dart south across the street under cover of a smoke barrage from the OBA (about all that < 105 mm is good for in urban fights). Then head east along the south edge. B Coy and the tank platoon set up east of the road in the NW quadrant. Tanks are placed to be out of enemy LOS and will only move out once the infantry has had a chance to draw out/spot ATGs. They'll head east to the NE corner, then south to take the flag. Assume that anyone stepping out into the big square is an idiot and deserves the bullet they'll get in the head. Execution: Went pretty much according to plan. Surprises included finding out that the map editor can be manipulated such that mines and ATGs can be placed in buildings/rubble. Sturmoviks were a nasty surprise but could've done more damage than they managed. Russian AI had the habit of sending men out into the square to hop to the next building: ick! Progress on the left flank was slow but steady and really paid off. The engineers helped them out and I knew things were going my way when the FT teams started firing and the DCs started getting placed.
  11. *Bump* for those just joining in on a Sunday morning (in the Americas, anyway).
  12. Just to make it clear (although I see that "Green as Jade" needs no clarification): "Schonhult" made the mod, not me; he deserves all the credit.
  13. 3.7 ???????? Hmmm...maybe the original attachment was still in the one I responded to with another copy. Try, try again... It's cleaned it just doesn't like the 3.7 meg files you sent if there is anything else in there. So send away buddy. Panther Commander </font>
