  1. So your troops didn´t meet these Überfinns? [ October 11, 2002, 10:56 PM: Message edited by: Keke ]
  2. It may be that my definiton of NCO is all wrong, but back in those days aliupseerikoulus produced Korpraalis not Alikersanttis (it sounds almost like Latvian with those s-letters ). [ October 11, 2002, 05:17 PM: Message edited by: Keke ]
  3. I have started to make an operation called "Road to Portinhoikka", which has 4.5*3.6km map (area between Leitimonjärvi and Portinhoikka). It will model the 5 hour battle which took place there 25.6.1944. It will be the first operation in my (hopefully) forthcoming `Tali-Ihantala series´. Real maps and formations are used, but the basic problem is how I succesfully scale down the number of units involved. Fe in this operation historic amount of Soviet troops (fe. Guard inf rgmnt, 3 tank coys etc.) would mean none less than 19,500pts!
  4. Here seems to be some confusion with modern and historical ranks. During WWII Finnish Korpraali was a NCO, platoons were usually lead by vänrikkis of reserve (so called maito-vänrikit) and companies by "professional" vänrikkis or higher.
  5. Damn! Badd enklish after long CMBB-session...
  6. My triple posts were not even in a right order. Is this some cruel trick made by CDV?
  7. Another double postitis. What´s wrong with my computer? [ October 03, 2002, 01:57 PM: Message edited by: Keke ]
  8. More BS... How come bitching about CDV has become your personal problem? My name is Jyri Kettunen, if that helps. [ October 03, 2002, 01:58 PM: Message edited by: Keke ]
  9. Kohta ottaa ohrakyrsä, jos ne saatanan sakemannit eivät saa yhtä valmista peliä markkinoille! Puhumattakaan siitä, että saisin kerralla valmiiksi yhden virkkeen ilman editointia! [ October 02, 2002, 03:14 PM: Message edited by: Keke ]
  10. Vasilevsky was the (almost) unsung hero of the Red Army (fe Operations Uranus). Zhukov was the "Human Wave" Soviet general, who didn´t care about losses to his own troops (fe Op Mars), and is IMO one of the most overrated WWII generals of all-time.
  11. Thanx for the realism info, comrades!
  12. Yes, "ampukaa" is just a wussy alternative for "tulta munille, perkele!".
  13. No need for game or manual in Finnish. English is the language of gaming here. So no need for extra costs. It would be irritating to read a manual, which would have all the typical spelling mistakes made by wannabe-Überfinns.
  14. Talking about discipline, Finnish soldiers (yes, the uberfinns) were amazed by the discipline and discipline measures of German troops. FE When German 122nd infantry division was defending Viipurinlahti on July 1944, repulsing Soviet attacks together with Finnish troops, both German and Finnish were not allowed to use any civilian property, although the owners had been evacuated. Finnish troops anyway used to gather potatos from the cultivated grounds, and so, following the example, did some Germans. That is until one Hauptmann was caught doing it, after which he was demoted to infantryman status and sent away to some penal unit!
  15. I tried to search the net for details about Finnish artillery, but there´s was none (in English). Instead I´ll copy and paste some information about Finnish artillery I did find from another forum. It is written by Juha Hujanen (I hope he doesn´t mind me doing this without any permission, I didn´t correct any spelling mistakes ): "In summer 44 during heavy fightings Finnish artillery breaked many Russian attacks. The finest hour of Finnish artillery was 4.6 44 [the correct date is 4.7.1944 (Keke)] during Tali-Ihantala battle when 21 Finnish artillery battalions (252 guns) fired barrage against same target area where Soviet tanks and infantry were starting a attack.Target area (200x300m) was hit during 1 minute 950 light and 720 heavy shells. So in theory one shell hits in every 6x6m.In one minute 200x300m target area received 9000kg explosives and 31000kg shell splinters. After that barrage there is no life in that area and not surpispringly Soviets did not attacked after that. That shooting method was developed by Finnish artillery general Nenonen and with that one artillery spotter could call artillery fire to one spot from all guns with range and shiff fire to next target in 3-5 minutes." I´d like to add that like the American arty, Finnish arty relied on accurate and detailed maps. The difference was that these were always available, because most of the fighting took place on the Finnish soil. [ June 05, 2002, 11:16 AM: Message edited by: Keke ]
  16. And how about national characterics of the arty? Fast response arty was used only by Amis and Finns (separately developed TOT-systems).
