No you numpty, I want to know the recommendations of grogs who use this board! I can google with the best of them, but won't know as much about if a place has an awesome tank collection or three buttons and a tin cup. Example: Should I go to Bone_Vulture's house for dinner? Google answer: "Food is served daily" Grog Forum answer: "Food is served from a pot of simmering bones and catfood, garnished with chef's special sauce. Avoid." See?

Having tired of the preponderance of Tigers and other Big cats in the german 'autopick' list, I have been trying to buy PIVs and win with them. Limited success so far, some great and some not so great results. Anyone have any tips and tricks for this workhorse? Grum

I'd say its a fair tactic. He would pay the price if you happened to drop some large arty on his head, plus if you time it right I would hope that you can engage him piecemeal to avoid that 7-4 disparity. Next game I'd be tempted to splash out on some 150mm+ G

Hey Leaky - That sounds like my sort of oppo....send me a game G

art & mortars against open turret TDs
GRUMLIN replied to David Chapuis's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
I took a tiger out a few weeks back in a test QB against one of my onionwars colleagues. Hit it with a 120mm and got a top penetration. As I only had 'old' t34s on the rest of the board, it was worth rolling the arty at it, even if only to force it to button whilst I ran for the flank shots. Grum -
CMX2: what about a new battle-type?
GRUMLIN replied to Steiner14's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Idea for CMX2 - when plotting movement orders, on the first turn additional waypoints not to cost extra seconds. This would represent the planning before kick off, and stop the habit of people giving units massive long straight movement orders at the start purely to save seconds if rushing for a flag. Would also allow you to roll down roads without it taking 3 minutes to move. If you want a justification, something like the CO saying right, I want our general advance to be to reach X point, but use cover there, there, and there on the way. After the first round, normal delays kick in to represent the need to explain orders in detail once the bullets start flying. -
Meeting Engagements vs Soviet SMG teams
GRUMLIN replied to RAM's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
To expand this a bit further then.... against a soviet night attack where the SMG squads are always going to be able to get close, what would people recommend. Assume that you do not have access to minefields and wire.....just to make it tricky Grum -
A good site for PBEM action
GRUMLIN replied to cyborg's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Try www.onionwars.net for a different take on CMBB - but one that gets you a load of fun opponents and PBEM games to boot. Grumlin -
Don't like French cheeses!! goodness me. try some different ones; you have probably been given the softer bries and goats cheeses (which I do not love myself); try getting some of the harder or blue stuff - kicks like a mule. You also need to eat it with today's bread, not yesterdays (as most table bread in small cafes will be). cheers Grum

Hi there grognards. Two quick questions on minefields in CMBB: Does deep snow decrease the effect of minefields? Is this the same for AP and AT? Does heavy arty or large calibre AFV rounds aimed at known minefields have a chance of clearing a path? Is this the same for AP and AT? Grum

I have this! I have just finished a QB in which a PSW233 running at top speed bogged, then slid INTO a patch of tall pines and stuck there. It is right in the trees... Grum

WaffleGrumbling ... damn CDV again !
GRUMLIN replied to Pascal DI FOLCO's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
This is why you lot need to join Onionwars. One side has big pink salmons as their symbol, the other has nice shiny emeralds. Actually, we have been banned in Holland as offensive to the jewelfish fanciers collctive, but we ignore them. WWW.ONIONWARS.NET Grum -
And the insert (i.e. game manual) is just plain awful. an A3 piece of paper folded double.....might well put new players well off (luckily you got me hooked on CMCRACK already) Grum

What good are off map rockets?
GRUMLIN replied to Razgovory's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I recently played a pbem scenario where i had a bunch of rockets available. Objectives were in the middle of a small village, so I knew roughly where the germans were going to be. I timed the rockets for +7 minutes and aimed at the rear of the village. Timed it right - rockets came down, wide spread to be sure, but pinned/panicked enough of the unseen enemy that i was assaulting already demoralised men at T+9. Got a major victory. I woudlnt use rockets except for pre-planned, but when they work, they can really tip the balance. G -
Grenade in a Tiger's hatch (SPOILER POTENTIAL)
GRUMLIN replied to dangerousdave's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
I just had a cmbb grenadier unit take down a kv2 with a grenade bundle from 40 meters....and on top of those odds, the infantry had also just broken from a round of canister. they were actually crawking away in terror when the bundle suddenlty flew up in the air and knocked it out!! Grum -
I'm playing a CMBB by email which involves a small german garrison fighting off a heavy sov attack on their dug in positions in a snowy village. Apart from it being ridicolusly one sided, I have also noticed something very very odd - twice now german troops in a firefight have stopped shotting at the enemy, and begun targetting one of their own nearby units!! They even rotate on the spot to line up with their comrades as if they were switching to a better target. I get a thick red line, but havent seen any firing as yet. Whats going on? These boys fifth columnists or what? Grum

Stop trolling you lot. Ain't no such file!! Grum
