  1. Release it or release it. The others options are not desirable. Very little after I got the game I allready said I would give it 6 months more of development to consider it a "releaseble" game or what 1.0 should have been. If afteer that soem issues still there or are game breakers (honestly, I can have fun with the game NOW, but yes soemtiems is disapointing), I'll accept some design decissions are flawed. Until then I will think they have taken the correct path for the next 5-6 years (until we have CMx3 if we ever have it), I'm confindent on them. Most issues are fixable or being able to be improved (including QBs, WeGo, WeGo over TCP/IP, pausable online RT or whatever). I would even gone farther probably with the hardware projection ahead, funny enough that probably would have eliminated some of the problems that seem attached to the current action spot/map grid system. But that game would be playable only at top line systems so I think they have done what they could given the potential customer. I would also hire an other programmer (yes have said this too many times allready lol).
  2. why the editor is slower and slower with map size increase? I'm not talking about the 3d preview, but the 2D map, in theory there is nothing running there so why in the hell does become slower? it does not depend on terrain features or untis, a blank desert map does it. just curious as i don't design maps but no aparent reason for this to happen (my computer in an AMD 64 X2 4800+, shouldnt have much problem with this). there seems to be serious optimization issues with this game.

Couldn't make any testing (sorry, soccer evening hehe), but there is an update on 1.04 on the main forum http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=52;t=003051 interesting news about imrpoved terrain rendering which as per this post a lot of problems seem to come from. yeah, nvidia drivers and interaction w/ the hardware may not be the best, but is obvious the game has got serious problems in that department and it's suboptimal, to say the least. cheers
  4. yeah, read the update on 1.04 in the main forum: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=52;t=003051 it seems the terrain rendering has been 'improved', a lot of the problems are coming from tehre as you can see in Mazex post in this same forum.

"rewriting part of the terrain rendering code" well as it's suspected it seems a lot of problems come from there markh you can't get any answer on that. but I'll give you an highlight, if you want to build an endurable system upgrade to the best card out there, that is the infamous Geforce 8800. It does not matter which are the current problems with the game, BF is gotta have to fix them (or nvidia, or both), as it's becoming the satndard FAST. I myself plan to buy one and I could careless if CMSF can't work with it, then I'll have to live w/o CMSF or asny CMx2 game if it's gonna be that way for a while. Now if you are building your system around this game (bad idea, IMO), I would pick an older card which will not be as profitable. Maybe upgrading your CPU would help too, but this all depends on which games do you run or which applications.

  7. seriously ridiculous... how much memory does desert texture take for example? and as for the number of polys, well that's out of question. a 1600x1600 map has 40000 8m grid squares, that makes 80000 triangles. The 8800GTX can render a lot of millions (can't find it now) of triangles and mroe vertices. Gonna do the same tests as you with my system which is far inferior specially the 3dcard. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Asus A8N-E 2GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM GeForce 6800 GS (256MB VDRAM) Gotta upgrade my drivers to the ones you have first.   8. you should start testing out with different map sizes, with and without units, and feature full or clean. interesting screenshoots... IMO the 8800 should be able to run with skyrocketed FPS from any point, hardware wise in any case, and much more with your settings (no AA and stuff)
  9. I think you are being too catastrophic about the state of the game. IMO there is nothing which can't be improved, I mean there are no real game breakers in the core game design and concept. But hiring an other programmer would help, this all it's just too much for a single programmer. DonĀ”'t be greedy BF crew

  11. Compared to user made scenarios these were not that good, soemtimes where incoherent. In CMx2 that would get even worse.
  12. man, no one can tell you that 100% sure cause this is bug-related. if you hit the 8800 issue you are screwed, if not it's just that, is the most powerfull 3d card out there. so hard to understand? if you want an asnwer like: "if you buy this system you are 100% guaranteed you will be able to run the game flawlessly at max/max" you are not going ton get that answer because systems capable to run the game w/o problem at max/ma are subject to bugs.
  13. This has been answered in the tech support forum. In theory a quad-core + dual 8800 If the combination works ok. But if yuou have the bad luck and the issues with the card hit you, you are screwed.
  14. First, is none of my bussiness if they feel offended. People does stuff that I don't like, but they do not harm me, I just shut up and in addition they don't care if I feel offended. I've taken a decission and is to not give a rat's ass about all that lobying of social groups and their sentimental causes, because if you do at the end of the day you can't do nothing or even speak, everytime someone will feed offended. Their problem, not mine, specially when they are so hypocrit that when they offend someone and don't care a bit. As I fail to see how I'm contributing doing things worse in reality by playing a game like this, I'm not gonna stop play it if I enjoy, if that included blowing an IED and killing a VIRTUAL squad in the process, be it.   15. I wouldn't play them, cause these would boring. But nothing more. If I play as the waffen SS in a wargame it does not mean I'm a nazi, and no, I don't care playing KG Peiper in bulge wargames. Jesus. Yes I'm insensitive cause I can play a GAME and separate it for reality. edit: yes, the people enjoys playing ancient civilization games, which used to be brutal, and i don't see them very worried about it. and no, there is no difference these people used to be humans just like now. stuff happens and playing or not a game is not gonna change it or make you anymore complice. Ok I'll skip the sentimental as well as game mechanics questioning part of your post (nothing personal, just getting old, all this have been said and devated allready a lot of times), as for your questions: 1) I think it's gonna make a comeback, not very hard as there is allready a LOS tool in place (when you use target). 2) What's the prpoblem with current roofs? 3) With 1.04 we will have a better UI and mechanism in place for orders allready, being able to queue different orders at same waypoint & use individual pausing. This will improve wego quite a bit. I think modifying orders is the next natural steep. 4) There has been some talk about this, totally random QBs won't be possible anymore, quite udenrstandable given the icnreased complexity. CMx1 random QBs weren't that good anyway. BUT maybe some sort of meta-tile system will take place, you will be able to build metatiles (you or the developers or other users off course), and the game will pick these metatiles to form maps. This is far away if it ever happens anyway. In short, 1 & 3 will come soon or later, rather soon than later. 2 no idea and as for 4, not exactly but something IMO better, in the mean time I'm sure there will be a lot of community made maps (or scenarios you can convert for use as QB) for playing QBs. Also there is a problem with random QBs, if you use them to play against the AI, these would be totally useless, as the AI needs strat plans to play.
  17. you are gonna see development of this engine for a while so i wouldn't worry about it. maybe patches come slower cause nthey are trying to get solid patches and not 'quick buggy fixes' and getting more improvements. maybe they are trying to squat a big bug or fix stuff like the nvidia so it's taking its time. i hope we get it next week though
  18. Seriously, do you give a rat's ass about that!?! I can play games and that does not have effect on reality, also I don't suffer any stupid psycologic effect even if it does resemble reality. Am I human? I guess not. Overeaction is common in nowadays society I guess. Saying the game is "insensitive and in bad taste" is what remained to be seen about the game lol.

  20. man, when i read the title I though, oh no an other rant & rave thread haha strange thread but not useless, i don't think M1A1TC was being rude. he has got a point if the ganme does not sell well the company may close the doors. BUT i think that's not the case, but we will have how well sell the future titles as they may have screwed new potential players by this BAD release. at least if it does have thje 'CM' in there. I think modern still has potential and I hope that BF does not abandon it until CMx3 (if ever doe shappen), before WWII we will get addons anyway.
  21. Huntarr as it is, better to not have it. The result of regrouping is a more unrealistic behaviour as well as AI stupidity highliting, so better to not have it. Things have to be taken into consideration, and in the end AS IT IS is better to remove it cause the result would be much better.
  22. I used right click but I've an adaptative mind so I can learn the new UI, not that hard actually And for the record, IMHO, right-click wouldn't work in RT, too slow. Oh, and I use the relative keys + f5-f8
