  1. I guess a few minor ones made me go for the US version. 1. Minor thing 2. My main reason. A few friends had experience from Sudden Strike and I wasn't impressed on how it was handled. Also have another game (other distributor) with the same copy protection that has caused me some problems. 3. I placed and payed my order before BFC offered us the complete manual. Doubt it would make any difference if I had known. 4. Local retailer said it would be october 7 in Sweden. CDV had the chance to get me the game almost three weeks earlier, but they didn't. 6. A small fear that there will be more surprices down the road. First the only difference was the runes. Then the SS test was replaced by WG. No problems so far, no news since CMBO. And then the release date difference (ok, german version was released 20/9) (this disappointed me) and last the manual (even more disappointed). BFC is in control of what they deliver, not what CDV deliver. CDV has different priorities than BFC, therefore I get the BFC version to make sure the right things are prioritised.
  2. CMBO runs fine on my HP, but it has one problem. As CMBO uses 100% of the CPU power it gets overheated. Sofar it has costed me a new battery and a fan. Make sure it has a good enough cooling system, that would be my only concern if I bought a new laptop for CMBO today. (Processor, RAM and graphic card on todays laptops are all ok for CMBO, but the lowend might be a bit slow with CMBB.) What you propose is way above the low end that we started to play CMBO on a few years back. I would bring a good headset instead of external speakers (depends on how much you'll travel). Mouse is definately needed.
  3. AFAIK the only thing that has changed for PBEM is some added security during setup phases. Haven't seen it confirmed though.
  4. Nah, it takes him 48 hours to get out of bed...
  5. Game scores would be nice. I wish I could stay in my dream world and hope I did well, but if the scores arrive I won't be able to stay away. Good thing is that it'll allow me enough time to get out of the depression before the next round starts...
  6. Two questions about how PBEM is handled in CMBB (didn't find the answers with a quick search). 1. Have the security problems during setup been addressed or is it still possible to cheat? 2. Has the number of mails/turn been decreased or will we still have plot only/movie only turns? Edit: Double post. Ignore, answers received in the other thread... 8. All five games finished. It's been five very fun end exciting games, hats off to everyone in the section for lightning speed when returning mails. By reading the comments here on the board it seems like I'll end up on the lower half. Now the boring part of this tourney starts, waiting for all those of you who actually has a life... And of course, thanks for the wonderful scenarios and for arranging this great tournament.
  9. We'll probably sit in front of the PC clicking Refresh every hour for the next 7 weeks. Let me know if I can help you with your, hrrm, non-CM related stuff so we can finish this early
  10. Back from a one week trip. 3 turns to go in my last game. Don't think anyone in Tourney II, Section 1 has a life, I'm prepared to place a bet that this section will be the first to finish all games...
  11. Diceman, I'm no expert in this area, but make sure you're not just considering your Inbox when calculationg the space you're using. Mails in your Deleted folder might count towards your quota, as well as Sent, Drafts and other folders that are not local to your HDD.
  12. Regarding AARs from RoW I, I got a few from the top players. I've put them up at http://w1.451.telia.com/~u45108579/RoWI_AAR.htm You can either read them on the web or download them and read it all offline.
  13. Bummer. Haven't done much with videos, but surely there's a conversion program, Quick Time -> AVI?
  14. Anyone know if I can download the CMBO intro movie somewhere? I want to replace the CDV logo with something that sets me in the CM mood. Haven't seen the US version intro movie, are there any good alternatives? [ July 12, 2002, 05:49 PM: Message edited by: Visom ]
  15. Interesting choice of words... Moon, I think the answer we're looking for is whether or not the patches will be available for all version at the same time?
  16. I've just completed my fourth game. Last game is progressing with one mail per day, 10 turns remaining.
  17. I'd say it's quite easy to figure out which scenario was lost or won if several or all persons in a section published their win/loss record...
  18. My (UK?) CDV version has no CM intro movie, just the CDV logo.
  19. Password sharing is bad as a principle, but I can't see the big harm in sharing it. Everyone already know 50% of all passwords, if anyone wants to cheat there's already a major risk that they've taken advantage of this. At this point I've got two turns that were not meant for me. So, if we can send turns to the wrong opponents by mistake, who says we won't send mail with the password to the wrong opponents? My vote is against sharing. First, it's the principle. Secondly, TB has taken many steps to keep FoW at a high level. If he had the time I'm sure he would have 360 different passwords for the 180 battles. I think that should be respected, we should not take advantage of (as he called it) the weakness in his system. Third is the statement from WineCape, our sponsor. He was rather specific regarding his point of view.
  20. I don't know which thread is worst. Those asking for a release date or those who flame the persons who asks about a release date. As this subject is so hot why can't BFC create a sticky post at the top of the forum with the heading "Release date" and then in the post explain that there is no date set yet. Wouldn't that avoid a lot of tension on this forum. Probably need to lock it after the official statement, it should be a read only post... (Replaced whenever the official statement changes from 'When it's done'.)
  21. I don't think counterbattery fire is within the scope of CM. More strategy than tactics IMHO.
  22. I thought this was confirmed by someone at the Rune sneak preview. Or was it from a screenshot we could see "Turn 5 of 30?" (With the questionmark included.)
  23. Things are slowing down. Three games complete, game with UberGeneral ongoing but haven't got any turn for two days, game with Strider will soon start again when he gets back from vacation. Both games scheduled to end well before the deadline.
