  1. In fact the Netherlands used to have mountains untill Chuck Norris put his foot down. Now it's below sea level.
  2. When performing his spinning backkick Chuck Norris can kick Space Lobsters Of Doom in multiple parallel universes in one go.
  3. Chuck Norris wanted to play the guitar but couldn't find any lying around, so he invented the string theory to play anyway! Mies
  4. I just finished reading Ortona by Mark Zuehlke and wanted to have a look at the "Little Stalingrad" operation by Michael Dorosh. However the above link doesn't work for me (anymore) and I'm not able to find it at the Proving Grounds. The Scenario Depot of course is no more. Does anyone have an idea on where to pick up "Little Stalingrad"? Thanks.
  5. Not really related to this topic, but there was a documentary on Belgian television a couple of days ago on camera men advancing with the U.S. army in the period between the Rhine crossing and the end of the war. It was called "Embedded '45" if I'm not mistaken. Anyway I remembered this thread as I watched it as there was actual live footage of the above scene. Although camera men weren't allowed to film GI's being hit or dead, you do see the above scene with smoke welling out of the Sherman. Just thought I'd share. Mies
  6. I'm kind of thinking along the same lines. I'd might go for onboard sound and a bigger or 2nd hd. Not sure if the case comes with it's own coolers. The machine I have now competes with the best jet engine out there, sound wise and I want something a little bit more silent. Mies
  7. A little bit of news is news as well. Now get back at it! Mies
  8. This happens to me too sometimes when I alt+tab out of the game and then back in again. I just blame the video drivers and I can't be bothered trying to fix it. Just quiting and firing up the game again "fixes" the issue for me. Mies
  9. In the mod manager department I also recommend GreenAsJade's McMMM, available at CMMODS. Mies
  10. Download the Rulebook from the Sie Kommen download page. It has all the scenario's and the order of play depending on the amount of battles you want to play. Mies
  11. I couldn't get myself to create another login / password somewhere else (Sie Kommen forum) so I'll put my comments here. First of, thanks for the work that must have gone in to this. I'm really enjoying going through the battle pack untill now. Also the complete mod set makes it easy to set things up. I'm playing against the AI with me being the Allies. Anyway I ran across something yesterday that I wanted to comment on: SPOILER ALERT * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * In the March to Marck scenario, which is a big 40+ turn map, I setup 3 combat groups. 2 were more or less sticking to roads leading to Marck, the 3rd setout to capture a hill on the left of the map. Around turn 30 that hill on the left was taken and my man including 1 Sherman were advancing cross-country towards Marck. At that point The Germans received reinforcements of 3 panzer IV's and an HT between 2 patches of trees. Fine, if it weren't for the fact that I parked that one Sherman there not 50m-75m away with it's back turned to the reinforcements. I got 1 shot of before it was blown up taking and with that took out one of the panzers. Now I don't mind the Germans getting these reinforcements. My point is more with the placement of them. Yes there is an edge to a map, but in nomal life one would see this coming from afar. Why not put the armor in a spot somewhere closer to the back, i.e. German side of the map. At this point in the battle (as said around turn 30) to put these reinforcements in at that spot is a bit annoying. Anyway just a little perception thing from my side on an otherwise nice map. Mies
  12. I got tired of default wallpapers so I made some myself. This one I like best, and oh, it would go under the "modified" section obviously. Mies
  13. My former girlfriend got mad when we booked a holiday in the Ardennes a couple of years back, with me only wanting to see monuments, tanks on town squares and musea and wanting to hike accross the hills around Vielsalm. The beginning of the end right there.... Mies
  14. I actually do sleep, but then again I dream about being in command of a platoon of green infantry that break on the first shot fired, myself included . Mies
  15. A small update, I sort of used a no-cd exe for CMAK and launched the game again. This time it actually did bring up the game. I could see the tips section at the top of the screen and the controls at the bottom. The sound was there too. However I didn't get a view on the map, the screen stayed black. I was able to brin up the shortcuts me, briefing etc. Also alt+a brought me back to the main menu etc. So still not playable, but somewhat further. Mies
  16. Yes, I actually only tried CMAK, because that didn't need a no-CD exe. Redwolf, am I correct in thinking that when you used the binary package it did work for you? Mies
  17. Edit : To add that if the below still has to do with DirectX 5 calls this is probably end of the line. I installed cedega from cvs so no payment required, thanks for the heads-up. Using that I do manage to start CMAK and to start a game. Unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world and I'm now stuck at the "loading 3d graphics" screen just before you get to the actual map. I guess this is either related to an hardware issue (which is rather vague I realize) or a specific config issue related to cedega. Now I'm not running a big game rig, as said before, but an integrated graphics card for which I reserved 32Mb from internal memory in the BIOS. This works for CMAK on a windows 2000 install on the same machine The cedega config file I left as it was with memory settings set to default. You've probably guessed it. Anyone ( Redwolf ) any idea what to do from here as I'm a bit stuck? Thanks, Mies [ November 28, 2005, 12:57 PM: Message edited by: Mies ]
  18. Alright, so then I have to think about taking a account at transgaming. Thanks anyway. Mies
  19. Thanks Redwolf, I'll look into that. I did almost managed to get it going with wine on my notebook with integrated graphics card. Install on CMAK went fine as well as the patch. Only when determining my resolution it crashes. I'm really tempted to try this on my normal pc with a nvidia card in there. I'll update here should I get CMAK working under wine. Thanks, Mies
  20. This is probably a stab into thin air, but did anyone hear of improvements to wine so that it supports any or all of the 3 CM games? Has anyone been able to get CM working on a Linux machine? I googled for it, but officially Combat Mission isn't supported and from the above I understand there are some fundamental issues. Nevertheless I have this beautifull Ubuntu 5.10 setup now and I'd like to be able to play CM on it. Can't hurt to ask. Mies
  21. ...mmm yes, I have been on the receiving end of one of these (a little over a salvo though) the day before yesterday while playing the scenario. I had around the same amount of hardware gone (add some mortars) and maybe a bit less infantry casualties. Not so good for me.... Mies
  22. I have started out this weekend and have to agree that it is an excellent piece of work. Dedicated a fresh install to it. This will keep me busy for the next couple of weeks. Mies
  23. Did someone mention horses already? Mies
