Just curious, where does that 'von' come to your nick ? If you are referring to C.G. Mannerheim.

Gamespot has a preview of CMBB. FYI

In the end AAR of CMBO and CMBB you see how many casualties actually were KIA and which were WIA. Isn't the KIA : WIA ratio in CM close to 1 : 5 or close (can't remember it actually) ? 30 KIA would then mean ca 100-150 total casualties, which sounds pretty heavy to me. -
Prinz, Plan1, the finnish importer gives release date of September 30th here. You can preorder it already atleast here. One of the order options is cash-on-delivery. I have understood that the finnish version they are selling is almost identical to the english version, only diffrence being an (as an extra to the original?) finnish manual. http://www.winterwar.com You are right in the sense that Russians did achive breakthrough in the karelian front, some other fronts they were stopped or pushed back. In the end finnish forces were spread very thin and the situation especially near the Gulf of Viipuri was dim. But 'completely collapsed' simply doesn't make any sense Gunslinger et all. Agreed, Finland wouldn't have any chance alone against superpower ( 4 000 000 vs 150 000 000 ), but we managed to hold our own. That's what's missing in SC, Finland is just a place what soviets crush when they want and this wasn't the case (summer '44 anyone?). Be it HQ or higher entrenchment values, something has to be done. Currently its almost impossible to advance to Svir becouse of the suppily. [ August 21, 2002, 06:45 AM: Message edited by: ham ]

I also join to the "HQ for Finland" gang. Also I'm wondering why Sweden has Airforce and Finland doesn't ? In the real war FAF had a lot of excellent pilots and managed to save our cities (of course, AA artillery and all that played a role too) from destrucion. Especially the "peace bombings" of Helsinki in '44. Anyway, great game.

"Quick Operations" in CMBB?
ham replied to James Crowley's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Am I the only on who'd like to see ME operations ? 2-3 Battle QB ME operation would be great. -
Hmm ? Actually the engine tracks the exact location of the hits already. Transforming the hit to the same spot in the skin shouldn't be that hard. When the spot is found, 'paste' a hit marker there. Every vehicle could have one hit marker of its own, located in a new bmp file. Of course, this kind of hit marker system would work best only with tanks, not with trucks etc. Anyway, this would be a lot of work and would offer very little in return. Besides, if CM currently uses one shared skin for every piece of the same tank model, they'd need have the program generating a temp skin for all hitted vehicles and paste the hit there for "hit&forget" system which could really eat up the VRAM. Another solution could be tracking the hits with new code, keeping track of the hits this way ,"dynamically", would eat more cpu and could slow down the drawing routines. ' It could be a nice feature to have but seems to have too much work for so little ?

DivX would be nice format..

Who Wants Another Newbie Tournament?
ham replied to SuperTed's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
So.. To whom I should report my interest of playing in this newbie tournament ?-p -
Yup. Northern Finland in the future is a must. Although historically Finns wouldnt try to capture Murmansk ( or cut the railway ) but it would create some interesting what-if's.

Is there (is it even possible in CMBO) any good ME Operation ?
ham replied to ham's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
uh.. bump ? Even reply stating ME operations arent possible in CMBO would be appreciated.. -
Getting tired of QB's against human opponent, I'm looking for something that would offer more continuety and thus negate some QB specific things ( you cant suicide flag rush if you goint to play the next round with same troops.. ). Is there any small enough ( individual battles in 1000-2000 point range ) meeting engament operation suitable for PBEM (TCP/IP) play ?

Operation Bone Throw- Send in the Reserves!!!!
ham replied to Madmatt's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Turret down means that the whole tank is behind a cover. Compare to hull down which means that just the hull is behind cover. BTW; does turret down mean that the tank commander can still see the enemy if unbuttoned ? Example: Tank is driven to cover, in this case behind of a crest of the hill so that the turret and the hull cannot be seen by the enemy but up enough for the tank commander to see over the hill ? Is this possible in CMBB ? -
No Waffen SS in CDV's boxed version ?
ham replied to ham's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yes, the difference between Waffen SS and Waffen Grenadiers isnt that big factor in game. I for one just would like to see real historical names and symbols used in a historical simulation. Kinda like having US Army renamed to US Self Defence Forces, nothing big just something you'd like to get fixed somehow. Sooo... Anyone knowing a way to change it ? -
Suomi vai englanti? Vain suomalaisille!
ham replied to Moon's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Juu kiitos ajatuksesta. No, I dont think we need localized version of the game, I for one would like to play the english version. The localized versions here in Finland ( so far atleast ) havent been that good anyway. Besides I think its the same thing with the games as movies: in Germany and in many other European country they sub the voices, but in Finland we are used to the subtitles. Taking away the original language is considered more like a minus than addition. Every CM fan I know ( and people who'd be intrested in this game ) will know their english well enough to play the english version. Usually only 'kiddies games' are given the full localization and that hasnt hurt the sales of the more 'mature' games. Sorry about the rambling post, have been drinking FREE BEER all day =) -
