There appears to be some interesting advancements in using U5 for an RTS style game - time will tell of course.

Yeah, I like what I see there. 😎 What I hate is if games based on that have an editor (like ARMA bulldozer and other stuff). I tend to spend considerably more time with these than playing an actual game. lol 😅

Hm... thinking some more about this I find It could probably be not that good an idea to attach weaponry then floating in the air at odd angles. For initial FO placement it´s not much of concern but CM maps are dynamic. A single ingame created shellhole that doesn´t remove this FO at once could do this. Same issue for actual CM dead soldiers. But I don´t want discouraging you making experiments or learn doing Blender things. 😎

Another question. I use an aerial photo as overlay in the CM editor, but the scale of that photo is too large. The central square of the town for instance should be something like 100x100 metres, but is now 300x300 metres. How can I adjust this?

side note: One thing to remember is that topo maps show buidlings and built up areas artificially enlarged for map readability. Same for other map elements, like roads IIRC. So best is to have an additional aerial photo to load in map editor (o - overlay) to get size relations in order. Not that a building that on topo map looks like CM 16x16m building in fact is (or was) an 8x8m one.

Buildings I actually prefer to place myself. Elevation, roads and rivers are another matter.

same here. No need to attempt a 100% conversion since even when all handplaced it´s simply impossible. Zig-Zag roads i.e or stuff that ain´t exactly 45 or 90 degrees orientation and such. I need nothing but terrain contours and slopes. What might possibly help for creating the map is load an exact copy of the topo map as an "o" layer in map editor. With slopes all in place I think one can work much faster and more acurate manually and don´t waste time on correcting stuff the auto generator can´t do appropriately. There´s always places one needs to or want adapting manually (i.e forests, built up areas) and when it´s just for visuals and eye candy. A very good approximation with some inaccuracies is perfectly fine to recreate a historical or what if type battle IMO.

    A word about dead soldiers

do you think they have to wearing weapons or let it without is important to finish the mod ??

When they are interresting and usefull for the game, I will prepare also airborne, british, ss, tanker, luftwaffe,...

Would be nice vor variety but I´d guess that´s a whole lot of work. So in order for not looking repetitive you need at least 2-3 single soldier variations per main weapon IMO. But if you´re motivated and have time for that, why not. For now I´d go with generic dead bodies per nation. That should suffice ATM. If you want to go another level you can also add some "gore" elements. While unneeded basically it would show that the game is based on events that are cruel and bloody in reality. Some even might "enjoy" gory elements to add to their personal exitement, who knows.

I have no answers since I don't understand the 3d model modding process, or how CM uses models in the simulation, but it is definitely worthy of discussion as it is a means to tilt the balance in one player's favor.

So far I haven't seen anything that suggests we do have an impact on how the game processes all of its data. But we really haven't done too many detailed tests - most of the folks doing 3D model mods are still just learning the software and what can be made to work, or not, so don't really have much time to focus on the scientific. However @RockinHarry has been testing more of this stuff so he may well have some new insights in time.

My edits on crew member positions in halftracks was just minimal and I made sure that no intersections with vehicles "outer" armored type geomety takes places. I assume vehicles use sort of a hitbox used for various things and I think more detailed data could possibly be stored in META data section. Since one can´t see those hitboxes in Blender graphically, one can´t exclude that any crew position shift "can" have ill effects on their protction (from vehicle armor). That´s from my game testing and observations only. No new insights since then.

    Just little update today

@Artkin I thinks is better now, resized big and small tents !

Compare big and little tents ! edit Idea of hospital and red cross point !

    6niPAF4.jpg

Also just a little advice to the Fo (little tent),

place the tent in the front of you, edit no place you in the front of the tent 😆

be in the lower view with the mouse

and target the red point to manage the object

repeat the movement or rotation all the time untill you have the wishing postion !

I dont know why I cannot turn more easyly this object ? probably because the place is not symetric from a tent to another one ?

    SQCQkHb.jpg

same with big tent but this rotate correclty !

    zuD4a6N.jpg

    Voili voilou

    JM

small tent! Unless you want a SdKfz carport. The tents entry shouldn´t be higher than a standing soldier model and usually is even (much) smaller. But maybe also depends on a particular nations type, IDK.

Hehe, I was hoping to make burnt ground as a flavor object, but they just don't really work very well because of the alpha transparency sucking big time for FOs. So I was making burnt textures for ground tiles, kind of have them working, but they're on a bit of a back burner for now. Difficulty was finding appropriate tiles for the variety of likely scenarios, I chose ploughed ground for towns and cities since it's unlikely to be needed but there was some random appearance of them that I needed to look at.

But Harry are you thinking of burnt vehicles? All of JM's excellent new models are blank canvases that we could scorch, but it would take some time to do. I'd have a go at some, but am just too busy and was unwell for the last week or so, have to make up some time and help get Nigel's Berlin over the line.

Yes, understand. Ground tiles are fairly limited I agree. But what I´ve seen of yours are very good IMO. 😎

Yep, burnt vehicles. I did some quick experiments myself already and bits of spraying a layer can give some decent results IMO. Depends on how much detail and "realism" is aimed for. But not on my to do list either.

Hope you´re fine again now. 🙂 In meantime I help Nigel bits on mission testing and AI improvements if he finds necessary. 🍻

I propose to make the wrecks and others stuffs "naked or basic textures to be accepted to export in mdr" and you, or  Lucky or somebody elses created beautiful ones like Nigel...and real textures that can be shared later...

I made some success but textures stay for me my 💣 point.

PS the red cross flag don t appear in the video !

and soon I will put the xls files updated from Fos that I did, but also for everybodys to be use like Lucky propose on line !

    JM

I admit me is not the great texture making guy either, also lacking time for learning unfortunately.

Ah...that flag. Thought it was part of the tent. Or vehicle?

Hi Harry the dead are transporting because of your, cart  horses or cows. 😆

No about burning things I dont took time too much for now !

Dead soldiers are only ours lovely FO s a mine of possibilities, sadly that I don t find for the time the mds procedure, but I stick it on !

    JM

yeah, pity on the MDS files. Anytime maybe... who knows.

Yep, burnt textures could be some work, but depends on what detail and quality you´d aim for. Would be nice have for sure. IIRC Mark @Lucky_Strike attempted on these already? 🤔

Definitely trailers, and stuff like engineering vehicles would be cool too.

Then this becomes less of a game and more of a tool as it should be used

Agree, definitely. Since BFC offered much more FO slots but don´t let them show up. Their 3D editing guys could surely´ve put lots more stuff in there, selecting from stock games assortments like we do. Guess they like keeping us modders busy so they can work on Blitzkrieg CW module and release it ASAP. 😜

    Finally I could do it

Soon available, some little touch to change, and it will be in the hand of @Bootie !

Hope you enjoy I take fewssssss hours and months, to realised it, not perfect like everytimes, but something new !

My thanks to my Friends and teachers, for textures and stuffs, @Lucky_Strike @RockinHarry @NPye and some Ideas from  @Aragorn2002@TheFriendlyFelon!

Now place to CMFB and CMFI CMBN

    JM

That´s gorgeous, bud! 🤩😎 I´ll quite certainly make some use of these when ready. Did you try burnt out looks as well? And how did you get the dead soldier working? Is that new model or did you extract some MDS finally?

Ok I've made a few new maps of one of Konevs southern route to Berlin, so now I have 24 Battle for Berlin Scenarios, I may have a go at a campaign for the Konev battles south of Berlin. Now go to write all the new maps orders, not my fav job... Cheers

Wow! You´re a busy and hard working guy! 😎 If ya need help with some AI setting up stuff.... 🤔

Ah too bad you cant slap the horse model over an unused camo pattern in the editor. ;)

I would really like to see some tertiary military equipment. Like in the modern titles trailers are used very often

    Hehe...

Tertiary mil equipment, I think that ain´t that difficult to make. Just needs time and finding suited models for Blender exports. Some small stuff from CM own assortment has been attempted already.

What´s your wishlist for these type objects? A field kitchen would be nice maybe. 😁

uh... Berlin battle is anything but my speciality. I could well imagine @NPye has lots of this info maybe.

No worries, I was just interested in the book. Glantz is usually TOE/Grog heavy. His books are essentially a TIK video - all facts and zero emotion. Like to the point of boredom. But it does make the best possible resource for scenario design. This Christmas I've asked for more Glantz, and I'll check out Tissier too.

Yep, great resources. Have a couple of him as well. 😎

BRUH. That's amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Half of CM to me is sceneric/dioramic and this is PERFECT for that. The infantry divisions really need stuff like this.

Pity it´s static FO only. But would likely be hard for BFC creating an AI for them I guess. 😆

The SS divisions were probably all over the place with their changing organizations.

I am particularly interested in the forces that fought over Berlin. Is there a list of some sort like that? The smallest size of troops I'd be interested in identifying would be brigade or division. I told Npye that I could do the TOE work anyway. 🙂

uh... Berlin battle is anything but my speciality. I could well imagine @NPye has lots of this info maybe.

  18. 19 hours ago, Artkin said:

Do they contain a lot of TOE information?

It depends. The smaller (or focused) the topic, the more detailed it is usually. Just had a quick look into his 33rd SS Charlemagne book and it´s fairly detailed IMO.

  19. 21 hours ago, Artkin said:

I was watching a youtube video of David Glantz and he said the best books for the battle of Berlin are by Tony Le Tissier.

They look cheap too. I will pick them up eventually since Glantz recommended them, but first his stalingrad books. :)

yep, I´ve couple of them. Very good stuff for 1945 battles on german soil. 😎
