  1. It is at times such as this that I constantly wonder why all the time, energy, and resources used to spawn my pathetic shell weren't put to better use; such as a nice, scenic rock formation, or a four-slotted toaster. Allow me to explain the half mad, half insane ramble. You see, I finally got off my duff and pre-ordered CMBB. Throughout the process, I made sure I paid special attention to each and every detail to ensure no fowl-ups would inhibit or otherwise screw up my order. I made sure the cardholder name was correct (difficulty level: 1), I ensured the shipping and billing addresses were in order (difficulty level: 1), and triple checked the string of numbers that make up my debit card (difficulty level: 2). The one thing I neglected to check was the actual provider (so to speak) of the card. I checked VISA when I should have checked MasterCard. . This slipped my attention until I received the confirmation email from BFC. When I learned of my moronic error, even the precious sanctity of the public library of which I am employed was in serious jeopardy. A rather crude barrage of expletives was about to spring fourth from my gaping maw, utterly shattering the serine tranquility of the library. I somehow managed to remain calm throughout the ordeal. Seeing as how this could easily be the most important event of the year for me, I quickly emailed BFC and let them know of the error. I hope they can fix this before I am placed even further down on the queue. Now it is time for all to join in and have fun at my expense. Let the jeers and constant torment commence.
  2. Having just had a similar problem, I share in your pain. I'm not sure if it will help, but you could try switching your mouse. It worked for me.
  3. Bah! you haven't been around in a while. You deserve nothing. Nothing! ... Tough break with the credit card though.
  4. Well, I tried this adware elimator thingie that ended up finding some hidden nasties. I got rid of them and (pre-emptive knock on wood) so far so good. Thanks for the info, Schrullenhaft.
  5. What about all those old schoolers from back in the beta demo days, eh? They didn't get any special treatment and they had to wait years (if I'm not mistaken) for the full game to be released. I myself came on the scene about six months before the BO came out. Try playing the demo for months before being able to have the full CM goodness. Shees, newbies* these days want to have their CM, and eat it too. * If, by chance, you were previously a member but have since changed your username, I will pubicly apologize and recite a particularly self-demeaning(sp?) remark of your choice. Edit cause I confuse the letters "B", and "O". [ September 14, 2002, 12:05 AM: Message edited by: tiborhead ]
  6. Thanks for the reply. After searching through countless tech support forums at work today, I've concluded it may be some sort of spy/adware issue. From what I've gathered, it seems a lot of people have had the same problem as me. From what I understand, the spy/adware junk will run in the background and can conflict with certain programs. My girlfriend said she downloaded and installed some sort of online gaming crap which could have secretly installed something. I hope that's the problem as I can't afford both CM and a new motherboard.
  7. Although this is not directly related to CM, I was hoping someone could help me out here. I recently reinstalled Windows ME on my 20gig HD. Rather than wipe the disk completely, I just reinstalled the OS. Everything was fine for a few days. A few days ago, I began experiencing a rather annoying problem. While playing the BB demo, I noticed the game would hang for about a second, and then continue on normally. Everything would stop. Mouse, Keyboard, sound, everything. Aside from being slightly frustrating, it wasn't much of a problem. This continued through out the game for about 20 minutes. Finally, after a brief hang, I found the keyboard to be unresponsive. The mouse still worked, I still had sound and everything, but not using the hotkeys is a pain. I restarted my computer, and opened the demo once more. Same story, only this time the mouse froze too. Sadly, I found this problem is not localized to the CMBB demo. It happens all the time now, no matter what I'm doing. If I’m on the internet, a series of hangs followed by loss of keyboard and/or mouse. I became extremely frustrated. Yesterday, in an effort to correct the problem, I did a complete wipe of my C: drive and reinstalled windows and all necessary drivers. It apparently didn't help. The first full reboot, and it hangs almost immediately, locking the system. I decide it may be a problem with my secondary HD (80gig Maxtor), so I unhook that one and run only the main C: drive. Things seem OK for a moment. To test, I install CM and play a test QB. Things were going great (aside from losing my only AT asset to an arty barrage). I hadn’t noticed any freezes or lockups for about 15 turns. Then all of a sudden, I can't issue any orders via hotkey. Seconds away from throwing the damn'd thing out the window in a fit of unbridled rage, I hook up the secondary drive and run scan disk on both of them. This morning I checked the results: no errors found. Needless to say, I'm quite  and  and at the same time a bit . I have no idea what is wrong. I'm thinking it has to a motherboard problem in which case I'm screwed. I haven't the cash to replace it. Can someone, anyone give me a clue here?
  8. Hawker, Grapeshot, IIRC, is pretty much just as Renaud said; small steel balls designed to spread out upon firing, much like a shotgun.
  9. Not a bad choice. I was going to suggest "Space Children", but that has Jackie Coogan in disturbing little shorts. Something no one should have to see. On the plus side though, it does have an evil Russel Johnson being killed by a glowing bag of space mucus. Decisions, decisions...</font>
  10. Wouldn't it be nice to go into a temporary coma until the game arrives at your door? Man, that would be sweet. Just think, you wouldn't have to go to work. There wouldn't be that excrutiating "is it here yet?" factor when checking the mail. It almost gives me an idea... Nah, my girlfriend would never buy it.
  11. While you're at it, pop in a copy of "The Cave People" or "Mitchell" or "Giant Spider Invasion" to help relax yourself.</font>
  12. Boo, I'm sorry my remark about hipster beatniks has disturbed you so. You're probably right though. In any case, my fragile psyche probably has something to do with my girlfriend slowly trying to poison my mind with various stimulants in an attempt to motivate me into cleaning the basement. She'll not trick me so easily. Little does she know I've been pumping myself full of depressants to counter her attempts... I think I'll go lie down now.
  13. Hello all. I've been thinking (mind you, this is rarely a good thing) about the "loss of interest" in CMBO lately. Whilst doing so, it occurred to me that the release of BB, and consequently, the loss of interest in BO may be just the thing the game needs. It may not make much sense to you. In fact, I'm almost positive it doesn't. But the theory is, reinforced by (un)popular counter-culture, when something becomes outdated (i.e retro) it automatically becomes "cool", "hip", and sometimes even "trendy". How else do you explain cool-looking youths wearing Atari t-shirts? Now, what does this mean for BO? I haven't a clue. Maybe artsy types sporting goatees and berets will gather 'round coffee shops, discussing poetry and the most effective use of TRPs. Or it could just mean poor slobs like us are SOL. Either way, the more I think about it, the more depressing it becomes. Well, that's all I've been able to come up with so far. Perhaps a stiff drink will help the ol' thought process.
  14. I'm sorry, but I just don't understand why Cross of Iron (the movie) gets so much praise around here. I mean, it wasn't bad, but I didn't think it was all that great either. The book was spectacular, so I rented the movie hoping it would do the book justice. I was regretfully disappointed. From what I remember of the film, it followed the book in the vaguest sense. I know that movies rarely if ever maintain same flow as a book, but I was hoping for more. And the ending... very anti-climactic IMO. So, am I just missing something here? Is there more to the movie than meets my pathetic eye? Oh yeah, and the figure is pretty neat.
  15. Hmmm... I hope it had nothing to do with my porno comment. Rest assured, that was just plain silliness. I mean, come on. Who in their right mind would pay .99 cents for pornography when you can get it off of the internet for free! Again, more silliness, but it's all true. God help me, it's true.
  16. Yeah, well you'd better be. I don't want any foul ups, like that time I ordered all those .99 cent porno movies and the company never sent 'em. I lost 10 bucks on that deal.
  17. POSSIBLE SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T PLAYED THE DEMO!! * * * * * * * * * * I managed to have some success with them against the Germans in the Citadel scenario. Instead of keeping the initial setup, I decided to move all of my AT rifles up the patches of scattered trees near the front. I issued hide commands and had them establish a cover armor arc facing back toward my own lines. I had about two per patch of trees, I think. As the German tanks passed near my positions, most of them just kept going, not spotting the AT rifles. The two teams on my right side were spotted however, and quickly eliminated. The tank hunter teams didn't fare so well at all, but what are you going to do? Once the tanks passed the remaining AT rifles by about 20 meters, I opened fire trying for a rear penetration. I had the most luck on the left side. I scored at least 15 hits, about 4 penetrations before the crew finally bailed. The funny thing is, no one seemed to pay the AT rifle much attention. Either the German TC didn't deem the AT rifle much of a threat, or they just didn't see them. [ September 10, 2002, 04:16 PM: Message edited by: tiborhead ]
  18. Hey BP. My advice is, if you're not sure about purchasing the game, you should hold off until you hear/read some reviews of the Full version (which will, IMHO, negate all the crap surrounding the quality of the demo). If you're impressed by the reviews, just save a little money whenever you can, then order it when you can afford it. Myself, hell, I can't afford it either. Damn'd student loans. But you can bet your freckles I'll be pre-ordering this weekend when I get my meager paycheck. As for the different feel, well I say BFC did as they should have done. The Eastern Front was just a *little* bit different from the West, don'tcha know.
  19. Well, I’m pretty sure I pre-ordered CMBO with a money order. Unless something has changed, I'd guess it's possible. Bad thing is, it takes a little longer to process the order. I think the order page has info on ordering by check/MO.
  20. FYI in case you haven't found it yet: According to the press release, individual battle maps are up to 9 sq. km in CMBB, hence my 3km x 3km figure. The press release also states that operation maps are up to 24 sq. km.</font>
  21. Hmmm... For some reason, I was thinking the max map size was much larger than that. I was thinking along the lines of 9km/9km for some reason. Looks like I'm going to have to read the CM:BB FAQ thread to freshen up. Thanks, YD.
  22. While on my lunch hour, I was wondering something about on board self-propelled / towed artillery pieces in CMBB. Specifically, will HQ units be allowed to spot for on board guns? I know that mortar carriers will be able to do so, but don't recall hearing anything about bigger guns. I hope this is possible. I was under the impression that in the case of CMBO, the map size limitations were the reason it could not be done. Since BB is going to contain much larger map sizes, well, I was just hoping is all. Any word on this?
