King Tiger or King Panther?

I believe the F had 100mm glacis among other differences. -
Okay, so why was Treeburst banned exactly?
offtaskagain replied to Frunze's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I feel i must add my opinion here. It certainly appears to me that Treeburst has been treated unfairly here. Granted, his "The Truth had to be made Public" he pretty much asked for banning, but i can't really fault him for that. I probably wouldve done the same as him had i been treated that way by the admin. One or even two flames, however warranted they were, is not cause for banning. If it were, then why the hell is Aunty Jack still around? His sig line alone is nothing but a flame. Treeburst got the shaft, plain and simple. -
Portions of the Maginot Line were still in use in '44. Portions of it were reoccupied by the Americans when the Germans launched Operation Nordwind in late December. One area of it was blasted into submission by a detachment of Sturmtigers. This is from memory, so no sources on it.

CM - East Asia edition

A great example of that would be on Guadalcanal. I think the name of the battle was Alligator Creek or some thing like that. A whole battalion was slaughtered by a few Stuarts and and infantry support. -
IIRC Shermans werent capable of this either.

HE Shell Detonation Question
offtaskagain replied to rexford's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I think the german Pzgr 39 had them, as they had a small explosive filler. -
I would guess these little beasts were created by Alfred Becker.

What exactly are you looking for? If you think the amount of casualties in crews is low, thats because it was in RL. Almost all accounts of tank veterans say on average only 1-2 crewmembers were killed or wounded. Occasionally there was a catastrophic hit that would ignite the fuel and ammo at the moment of shell penetration that would kill all of the crew. But these were only occasional occurences. One of the British breakthrough attempts around Caen saw the loss of 50 something vehicles in one unit and maybe 10 crew killed IIRC. Can't remember specifics but it was somewhere on this board i saw that.

I'm making a scenario depicting an assault on a well fortified sector. I've got lots of mines and barbed wire emplaced. Trouble is i've apparently bumped into the unit limit when i try to add more in the scenario editor. I wish fortifications werent counted against the unit limit since they dont really have any AI control to eat up CPU speed. Anyone have a hard number on how many units you can have? I'm much too lazy to count all that wire.

I think it is described in Tank aces (Panzer Aces?) about a gunner in a PzIII or PzIV that aims at the gun on a Kv-I after failing to penetrate it from the side at point blank range (30 meters?). I don't have the book, so pls don't ask for more specific references. I might be wrong on this, but in several discussions I've heard that the germans aimed for the weak spots on the side of Shermans. (Not exactly weak spots, but the places for the fuel tank and ammo storage, which caused the Shermans to brew up in case of a penetration.) Again, I can't back it up with any references, but I think it makes sense.</font>

Armored vehicles - reliability factors?
offtaskagain replied to Greyghost's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
AFVs generally didnt suffer breakdowns on the battlefield. It was on long roadmarches that the unreliability of german vehicles really showed. So its mostly out of the scope of the game. -

extra fuel drums on russian tanks
offtaskagain replied to ParaBellum's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Liquid diesel fuel is pretty tough to ignite. Its not likely to explode from a penetration by bullets or shell fragments. As a matter of fact you can put out cigarettes in the stuff. Modern Soviet/Russian MBTs carry the same thing but i believe they are the first fuel burned off by the crew. Ive also heard they can be dropped with the flick of a switch. -
