1. Thanks Tom for going above and beyond the call of duty! Looks like Manx has the mod posted now, too.
 2. Works fine for me... [ 09-01-2001: Message edited by: AndrewTF ]
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by lcm1947: Andrew excellent work as usual. I am however having a problem downloading your US uniforms Action Pak Vol2. I keep getting the following message. Could not open the .zip file( C:\program files\CMBO\mods\action_pack 2 zip) Any idea what this is all about? Is it my machine or something wrong with the site Combat Mission or something in the mod? Any help would be appreciated - actually by anyone.

Sounds like a corrupted or damaged file. I usually don't need to download my own stuff, so I'm not sure. Are you trying to get it off of Tom's or Manx's site? I actually find that IE's native download manager does a pretty good job, but then I'm on a Mac so I may not be the best one to help you out here..
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael Dorosh: And yes - Canadian battledress was unchanged during the war; we never adopted the austerity pattern, keeping the fly front right through. My next book will cover this in detail....

I made the fly-front version at the last minute because I knew you'd probably call me on it if I didn't.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: Do I understand this correctly that you have different uniforms for the UK, CA, and PO? If so, then that'll be cool as to I'll be able to have options to switch bewteen them and any different shoulder patches too. Do you have a list of your US divisional patches as to what they are. I know a few, but I don't know them all. I ask because I could code up a Ruleset for those as well.

Well, I don't really. There are 2 versions of the battledress blouse: austerity version and fly-front, the latter of which is, I think, more appropriate for the Canadians. The Poles are on their own. I just did not have time to go and do a bunch of individual sleeve flashes this time around. If some enterprising soul may wants make a set of commonwealth sleeves with unit insignia--I think Michael Dorosh has loads of these available on his excellent "Canuck" and "Tommy" Web sites--then go ahead! All I ask is a copy be sent to me. I'll have to go research my US divisional patches. I was kind of hoping that Tom would make a cool complete divisional patch set for my uniforms like he did for DD's and the stock set.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: Well burn me boots! Now I gotta add yet another German uniform to the ruleset. Andrew, what am I gonna do with you??? Looks like I'm gonna have to do a Allied Uniform ruleset too to swap between these commonwealth uniforms. Oh well. I guess all for the better.

Sorry I guess I could take them back and forget I ever made them I promise not to make any more German uniforms, HONEST! Although, come to think of it, the Gerbirgsjäger need work... [ 09-01-2001: Message edited by: AndrewTF ]

 8. I've finally stopped procrastinating and finished Super Action Pack 4: "The British & Friends". This hi-res uniform set includes textures for: British, Polish, and Canadian infantry, British and Polish airborne, and the commonwealth tank crew, as well as winter uniforms for the regular infantry. Also included are alternate textures to represent: plain, netted, and scrim-covered helmets, blancoed web gear (on ALL versions), and a fly-front battledress blouse for the Canadians. I just didn't have time to do individual unit markings. The current sleeves have a generic unit patch. You've seen a few screenshots before. Here are some new ones: Infantry w/blanco and helmet nets Airborne. Note cool details like toggle rope. I really like how the winter unis turned out. Tank crew. Also incuded--a special bonus uniform for the Bad Guys! Heer tan water camo smocks. I've also updated the German helmets to give them a more realistic look (like with the allied and Heer splinter helmet textures). Available from Tom and Manx as soon as I send them to them.
 9. Ok. I monkeyed with the timing of reinforcements. Won't say on what side. This should maybe provide more of a challenge.
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Fieldmarshall: NOW that was a fun scenario! Killed all of the Allies, and halted their advance..but it wasnt the most challenging of scenarios...all you had to do was cover the bridges and the roads from them, and it was pretty easy....but still fun..VERY fun..cool map to, really good with the mods..

Glad you liked it. Try playing it as the allies--it gets a little more challenging, especially when giving the AI a bonus. Any constructive criticism is appreciated, as it's far from a final build.
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by killa in manilla: you think you could send me a copy?

Sure Killa. I need your email address, though! You can go ahead and mail me if you don't want to post it on the board.
 12. I've been playing around with the scenario editor and have actually come up with something decent (finally)! It's so far proven to be a pretty brutal urban combat scenario set in the waning days of the war. It's entirely fictional, US vs Waffen-SS, with a few Volkssturm sprinkled in, just for fun. I've tested it a few times against the AI, and it's been pretty hairy from either perspective. The map is mostly urban buildings and streets, with a canal, a few bridges, and a leafy green city park, and a train station, among other things. I've tried to make it look as much like a German city as possible, and I think overall it looks pretty darn good. Anyone care to give it a try? I can e-mail it to any interested playtesters.
 13. Photoshop, cuz it's got layers, the mod maker's best friend.
 14. Are you talking about the half-timber tall house on the bottom of the page? There's a similar one in the release version. I dig the stonework on the lower part, though.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Jarmo: As it happens I have a 8600. I guess I'll ask around then, a pair of those would serve me well..

That's my machine exactly , with a G3 400 and a Radeon card. Try a site called DealMac (dealmac.com)--they track, as is expected--the best prices on Mac stuff and often have specials with online Mac parts vendors (such as Other World Computing, which is where I got the memory).
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Jarmo: Agree to the point that whatever system requirements CMII would have, I'd upgrade to meet it. Hell, I got myself an $65/month ADSL just for CM. But on the other hand. Just yesterday I spotted a demo for WarbirdsIII. And the minimum requirements. 300Mhz G3, check 16MB OpenGL card, check 256MB RAM, oops a bit short So I wont try it out. Even if its the best game ever, I'll never know. Upping RAM is not a viable option, my mac is old enough to not use dimms and the memory that'd fit it doesn't come cheap anymore. If CM1 had come out this year with those requirements I wouldn't be playing it now.

Jarmo What kind of Mac do you have? I just picked up some 128 MB memory modules for my old hot-rodded 8600 for about $40 a piece. It's not as cheap as the memory for blue-and-white and newer Macs, but it's pretty affordable. Now I can keep Photoshop and CM running at the same time for easier mod making and testing
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Joshik: Thank you for doing such a wonderful job on the uniforms! Since you requested feedback, I have one small issue. Almost every uniform mod I've seen (from everyone) has a tightly buttoned collar. I get the impression that the mods are made by taking vintage clothing, buttoning it all up, laying in on the ground, and shooting a picture from above. That's accurate, but the soliders look as though they've been on the parade ground. Could you try one with unbuttoned shirt collars? Maybe the material doesn't have to be perfectly flat when it's photographed... And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE-- this is not a flame. I have been trying to make a decent tank mod for the past four months, and it still sucks. I know the work that goes into these things! Your stuff is great. I especially dig the Brit helmets with fabric strips. Keep up the good work! -Joshik

Is alright. FYI, my method involves the use of vintage or repro uniform photos that I use to get that "photorealistic" look. I usually scour the Web to find these. Oftentimes they are laid flat, sometimes they're on a mannequin or a Real Live Human; I've found it doesn't make that big a difference in the way it ends up looking as the CM wireframe gives a very flat look. I've played around with making the uniforms and gear look "curved", but it turns out looking kind of strange. There's more to it than just "cut and paste"--I do extensive retouching work to get it to look the way it does. Most of the uniform mods are made out of different pieces of several examples, blended together to get the right look. I made the buttoned collars on the Germans because I like the way it looks. You'll note that the American uniforms have open collars, as do the new British ones. Yeah, I admit the field grey German uniforms are a bit *too* neat looking. I tried to get away from that with the subsequent American and British mods. Maximus--the wheel in question was made hi-res, I guess the pixelization is an effect of the way CM renders is. Maybe. That's my excuse anyhow.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Rex_Bellator: Looks great Andrew, how soon is *almost* ?

Probably not today, maybe tomorrow or Friday, certainly by this weekend.
 19. Thanks. I didn't think that this would be something that would make it into CM:BB, as it seems pretty well along at this point, but rather subsequent releases.
 20. I posted this in the mod preview thred, but decided it was worthy of its own topic. This might have been discussed already (I *tried* to search, but no luck) but has there been any talk of making more that one uniform texture available for the squad graphics in future versions of CM? To explain, it would be nifty to have maybe two or three different helmet textures or uniform tunic textures that would be randomly applied to each figure in the squad depiction, much like the faces are done now. That way in theory you could have, say, a Heer squad with mixed Feldgrau and camo uniforms, or just helmets with mixed bare surfaces, netting, and camo covers. Obviously this would work the best with the more rag-tag Germans with their historic mix of different uniform styles, but it could be applied in subtler ways to the allies, too. One would think that this wouldn't be, *too* difficult, especially given BTS's promise to make the system requirements/recommendations a little higher for CM:BB and future releases. But who knows, it may be too tough to do, after all, I just mod themem, I don't know what makes them run... Any thoughts?
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Tom: Andrew & Maximus , yep....I did an alternative leather upholstery for the Kuebelwagen ( and the prime mover ) some months ago ( I still use it , but never published it ). Should I change my opinion ?

Yeah, publish it Tom! After all, I've been making alternative helmet textures for the infantry mods, why not upholstery options? maybe someone could make some groovy beaded massager seat pads  Another thought, kind of relating to this topic: This might have been discussed already (I *tried* to search, but no luck) but has there been any talk of making more that one uniform texture available for the squad graphics? 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: Well a little OT, but Andrew I finally got around to downloading your Hi-Res Kubelwagan. Love it, but what's up with the low-res wheel. And the bright white seat sure does stand out. Also would you think about doing a Hi-Res German Sauer 6x6 Truck?

What lo-res wheel? You mean the steering wheel? That's a texture shared by all the jeeps and trucks, and back when I did that mod I didn't even think of doing anything with it. I've been experimenting around with it but have yet to come up with anything that looks good. The white(ish) seat covers are what Kübels originally had from the factory. IIRC there is a verision of the mod with brown seats out there--I think Tom did it.
