1. OK, the next message you get about Super Action Pack vol. 2: For Mom, Apple Pie, and the USA™ will be Tom and/or Manx telling you its ready for download. I'm having a couple texture problems with the 44 infantry and tank crew, so it will probably be ready tomorrow or later tonight. So, for your delectation, a selection of screenshots and preview of the COMPLETE forthcoming set-- This mod pack covers ALL US uniforms in the game. After doing some research I discovered some serious problems with CM's stock US textures, namely, they weren't very accurate. Here's an illustrated breakdown of what's been changed: US 44 infantry: the M1941 jacket has been cleaned up and shorted to improve proportions. With all these mods, every texture is brand-new-created-from- scratch, not just a repaint of CM's stock BMPs. 44 airborne: all new textures, cleaned up web gear, grenades, etc. Option to have 101st or 82d airborne shoulder patches. 45 infantry: all new M1943 jacket textures! The original CM texture was just a repainted 44 pattern outfit. This is TOTALLY NEW!!!! 45 airborne: again, just a repainted 44 texture. In reality, the airborne troops had their M1942 jump jackets replaced with the M1943 field jacket by the Autumn of 1944. My 45 inf. and a.b. textures are very similar, but the airborne uniform has rigger-applied pockets on the trousers and different sleeve insignia, + other subtle changes. All, of course, are in glorious HI-RES!!! [ 07-17-2001: Message edited by: AndrewTF ]
 2. All will be revealed at today at approximately 9:00 PM PDT.
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by russellmz: can't wait. what face mod is that btw?

them's the original CM faces. I haven't really found a face mod that I really like yet.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Fairbairn-Sykes Trench Knife: That olive drab jump smock may be the best i've seen yet. Nice ammo belts, roomy cargo pockets and sharp Screamin' Eagle patches. Did i hear you say you were working on some uniforms for the Tommies as well? i'm looking forward to seeing some pics. can't wait to d/l the "Apple Pie Action Pack".

Thanks F-STK (can I call you that?). The whole pack has totally new textures--it's not just a repaint of the existing CM ones, which aren't really all that accurate. I'll give more details when I can post screenshots. The British are primarily done, I'm just not that happy with them, so I'll tweak the textures a little more. I have to finish the airborne Dennison smock textures, too. They'll be along soon enough!
 5. Super Action Pack™ 2: "For Mom, Apple Pie, and the USA" (geez, what a long title) is almost ready for release! Actually, it was ready for release last night, but my DSL connection at home was all fubar. With any luck I'll post some screenshots of the finished product and send it to Manx and Tom tonight.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael Dorosh: Are those brown boots I see? I like the grenades, too. [ 07-15-2001: Message edited by: Michael Dorosh ]

Yep, they were brown before but they're even MORE brown now! And heck, who DOESN'T like grenades?
 7. ...somewhere in Germany, March 1945. Soldiers of the 101st Airborne on patrol. Coming soon in the Super Action Pack vol.2!
 8. I thought CMBO didn't model medical units. I guess seeing an advancing eneny enema team would cause even the most elite battle-hardened units to route!
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Rupert_2: The arms patches are a nice add-on....Will there be an option to switch units???

Yep. Right now I have it limited to 82d and 101st Airborne, but I might do more. I probably will do a few for the regular infantry, too, as their uniforms, especially the M1943, are a littel dull. How about a poll--what divisional patches do you think would be the most useful for CMBO's scope? Post your answers here and I'll include the 5 most requested with the release of Super Action Pack 2.
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: Was this bright yellow standard issue? It looks a bit bright to me. Do you have some photos you could post to show what you're going off of? Andrew, did you get my screenshots of my revised Feldgrau version of your Field Grey Heer uniform? [ 07-12-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]

I'm still tweaking the khaki color. It's pretty close to the photos of original uniforms, really, but the final version will be dulled down a lot more.
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Wanderer: And I wonder if anyone knows why Boots never seem to be shown in great detail? I have always wondered that.

There isn't much room to work with, unfortunately. The boots are just kind of lumps at the end of the leg bitmap. I have a few ideas that I'm testing, however...
 12. It's not done yet, but I'm pretty happy with the way things are turning out. Here's the only one that's worth showing so far, 1944 US airborne: This set will correct some major inaccuracies in the standard US uniforms, both 44 and 45 pattern. I'm working on the Brits, too. More teasers will be available as further progress is made. This one's not easy!
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by MikeT: Andrew, do you know which faces are used by the Volkstrum?

Do you mean the CM bmp file numbers? I think the VS uses all the regular faces with two geezerized ones thrown in.
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Warmaker: Too bad it's too awkward/impossible to mod the panzer crews without screwey results. Seperate textures for Heer and Waff.SS ones would have been great (black for Heer, camo coveralls for Waff.SS).

Yeah, I tried and it looked pretty weird, as the Panzer crew leg and torso side share a texture. I'm working on an all-black mod though.
 15. Volkssturm uniforms released! Please see the thread with that title to see screenies and details.
 16. ...on their way to Manx and Tom. I tweaked the uniforms a little, deleting the chest eagle, and adding the rank insignia of Volssturmmann to the collar. I also gave them a WWI iron cross w/1939 clasp, to boost morale a bit. The cap stays black, since it shares a texture with that worn by the panzer crew. Pants a dark grey to give the outfit a stop-gap kind of appearance.
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Mr. Johnson-<THC>-: I can't these to work either. When I try to unzip it says one or more files may be correpted. When I open the bmps they are all white. I was able to see one of the helmet bmps though. Is there a Mac-PC problem? I'm on PC. I really wanted to check out those dot camo schemes.

Hmm. I saved them as PC bmp files. Anyone else having a problem?
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Fairbairn-Sykes Trench Knife: nice work, excellent attention to detail. i'm looking forward to setting those "brown" wool tunics on fire with my Churchill Crocs.

They look so dang purty ya kinda hate to blow em up, dontcha?
 19. I just whipped these up for the next release of the Super Action Pack™! Any thoughts, comments?
 20. Okay, here's an attempt at a Volkssturm "uniform" mod. I did some reading and found that uniforms did vary, with some of the most commonplace being Wehrmacht and party (NSDAP) items. To that end I modified the fieldgrey Wehrmacht tunic with Volkssturm collar tabs and rank markings, and an armband. I gave them dark grey pants and left the cap black, since it shares a texture with the panzer crew.
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Warmaker: The darkening worked nicely. As for my earlier comment about the light tan dots it's not that bad I mean. Just the ones on the knees and thighs seem larger than the rest. The blouse looks great BTW. I've been comparing them to the book "Camouflaged Uniforms of the Waffen-SS." Other than that, great work as usual!

I see what you mean. I think it's an distorting effect of the wire-frame model on the texture. Darkening it lessens the appearance, though.
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Warmaker: Wouldn't you look grumpy too if you knew the war was lost, you received 2 days training, a cool Kar98K, and a Panzerfaust-30? I'd be grumpy too

Well, of course! But I want them to look well-dressed and grumpy!
 23. Magua's Tommy mod is pretty cool. It's the one I use. I started work on a British airborne mod, so that might be next. Oh, and the Jeep. The field grey mod contains the Gebirgsjäger sleeve. I was thinking of doing a dedicated Gebirg mod w/anorak. Does anyone know if the Volkssturm were issued uniforms? I thought that it might be cool to make a mod for them using M1944 field blouses (the "Ike jacket" type). Right now they look like grumpy German famers with guns. 24. I've consolidated all my German uniforms in the new CM SUPER ACTION PACK™ 1! It contains updated versions of my Fallschirmjäger and Waffen-SS oakleaf mods, as well as the ALL NEW field grey Heer/Waffen-SS and M44 dot textures. Also included is a BONUS TEXTURE for Waffen-SS Italian camo pants that people have been asking for. I've just sent the files to Manx and Tom.
 25. Did the Volkssturm ever get issued uniforms? I'm thinking of making a uniforms mod for them, and want to get away from that "farmer" look they have now. I seem to have read that some units were so equipped, but can't find any visual evidence. If so, would the M44 "Ike" jackets be appropriate?
