  1. And oh by the way, I do in fact think that a tank that stops to fire should be as accurate as a fully stationary tank. Because it is a fully stationary tank. There is a reason why tank crews were trained to stop to fire. If there was no difference in accuracy why bother stopping? IIRC, the rational behind leaving firing on the move accuracy unrealistically high was that the TacAI doesn't know how or when to stop and fire and then continue moving. It has nothing to do with stopping to fire being the same thing as firing on the move.
  2. By that measure, Kettler may be the most well-informed person on the planet.
  3. Sniper ghillie suits are another example of highly effective camouflage. I recall reading somewhere that mono-color uniforms are actually a little better at making moving infantry more difficult to spot.
  4. I would assume that it does if the tank is bogged since it retains the movement order. A tank that becomes permanently immobilized auto-cancels movement orders.
  5. After seeing some odd results in a recent game I decided to once again waste my time running some tests and posting the results in a forum thread that BFC will probably never read. But at least people will know how the game works and doesn't work and adjust their tactics accordingly. First the control group: 5 Sherman 75s firing at 5 Panther As at 300 meters. I recorded the hits and misses of the first 100 shots fired. Hits: 94 Misses: 6 Now the test group: Same setup except the Shermans are given a movement order going straight forward plus an indefinite pause order so that they never actually move. First 100 shots fired: Hits: 31 Misses: 69 Uh-oh. It appears that when the game determines if a vehicle should receive an accuracy penalty for firing while moving, whether or not the vehicle is actually in motion at the time is irrelevant. All that matters is if the vehicle presently has a movement order. I also did test with just a pause command with no movement order and saw the same accuracy as in the control group, so it is definitely the movement order that determines this. This has some obvious implications for anyone using Shoot 'n Scoot or Stop 'n Pop type tactics with their tanks. Hopefully BFC fixes this. Hopefully. 6. That was meant as a joke. Although given the bizarre way tank spotting works I would not be shocked (see what I did there?) if it were true. It is true, however, that lower experience vehicle crews spot less well, so that is a way to partially compensate for the current state of affairs until BFC gets around to revisiting the spotting model. If they get around to it. You're welcome.
  7. Hence my sig. Conscripts are not trained on the thermal sights. One of the biggest issues with tank spotting is the fact that stationary infantry is spotted the same as moving infantry. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=105886&highlight=spotting But probably the single largest problem is that infantry is actually spotted more easily than other tanks. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showpost.php?p=1385985&postcount=28 Tank spotting is always going to be crazy until those issues are addressed.
  8. Yep. T-55: 5 road wheels with a gap between the 1st and 2nd. Bore evacuator on muzzle. T-62: 5 road wheels, the front 3 more closely spaced than the rear 2. Bore evacuator 2/3 up the barrel. 6 road wheels = T-72 The tank in the first video looks like a T-72 with ERA blocks on the turret.
  9. Battalion HQ is off-map. That green dot actually means 3rd squad's company HQ is in C2 with battalion, not 3rd squad itself. I should say that all of the squads/teams in those pics are 4th platoon. None are in C2 with C company HQ or with any other HQ.
  10. It's old, but it is a T-72M1. The distinctive 7 smoke grenade dischargers visible on the left side of the turret are the giveaway.
  11. There should be some SOP or new type of covered arc that would order units to react to sound contacts as if they were visual contacts, i.e. unhide if the contact is within the covered arc.
  12. If a squad or team is out of contact with its immediate superior (usually a platoon HQ) then its company or battalion HQ may provide voice and close visual contact, but not radio or distant-visual contact. This simulates that a higher HQ can't babysit a large number of units more than one level lower in the organization, and it means that higher HQs can't be used in a gamey way to make platoon HQs unnecessary, but they can step in and provide command-and-control in a limited radius in emergency situations. -- CMBN manual, pg 97 In this game my 4th plt. HQ was wiped out (it was just one guy to begin with). So I sent my C company HQ to the front line to take over. At first it was working fine. All the 4th plt units within voice or close visual range were showing themselves in C2 in the UI. But then at some point it just... stopped. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but I noticed that none of the 4th plt units were in C2 anymore, despite being in close proximity to their company HQ. From that point on they never would establish C2 with the company HQ again, even when in the same action spot. None of them are suppressed. The company commander is alive and well. The forward observer team directly under the company HQ is still in C2 when near it. Am I misunderstanding the game mechanics in some way or is this a bug? 13. Soldiers in CM are not deaf. Sound contacts are proof of that. Dismounted infantry can hear vehicles moving from more than 100m away. Tanks will rotate themselves towards them if it is a "tank" contact but that is the limit of TacAI reaction to sound that I have seen.
  14. Of course you can also select the AI units from within the QB purchase screen
  15. I'm looking forward to the return of the Ambush command
  16. And all terrain objectives will be changed to occupy if they are not already. No other type of objective is allowed in QBs presently, unfortunately.
