  1. I'd like to echo the Premierleutenant's comments. I love the game's potential and, despite bugs, I keep coming back to play it. I'm sure that it will be great once the patches start coming. FYI, I bought CMBO quite a long time after release (somewhere around 2002), and loved it. I still play it today. I'm looking forward to years of playing CMSF as well... keep it up guys.
  2. Speaking from RL experience, mortar/arty fire is indirect fire, that is to say it would be very difficult to aim it for a particular vehicle and expect to hit it. The spread of arty and mortar rounds is quite large and some can drop short by many hundreds of yards, there are many variables that can affect the accuracy of these area weapons. The other thing about ordering them to cease fire, there can be quite a time delay between the rounds being fired and their appearance on target, so although you may have ordered cease fire, rounds could be already on the way, and of course there is no way you can stop those. </font>
  3. Wow, I thought it was just me doing something wrong. When I tried to ceasefire, the rounds kept coming. It didn't matter much anyway, since I was just trying to suppress some units--this just suppressed them longer. Then I just figured that I was doing something wrong trying to adjust, but I never really cared enough to investigate further. I also did find a bug where the artillery fell quite far from the target. Is this another known bug as well?
  4. Here is the segment from "Future Weapons," on the AT-4. Pretty significant development.
  5. Umm.... Isn't this covered extensively in the manual? Starting on pg.95 and going to pg.153?
  6. Okay, it seems some people have found some situations which are quite amusing while playing CMSF. I've seen things from invisible technicals, to flying soldiers. Having said that, I thought I would start up a Humor thread. So here it is... Post any amusing stories or screenshots related to CMSF. Feel free to add captions, or do what you like. Let's see how this thread does.
  7. LOL that's some skillful tanking! It looks as though he stuck the gun through two windows to get at the Bradley. That commander and gunner deserve medals
  8. Even cooler: Troops between two buildings, under cover... Tracers bouncing off buildings, then hitting my guys around the corner. Never seen that in a game before. Javelins. I never get tired of watching my guys launch them, or of the explosions they cause.
  9. Here's a video of a Javelin being used against something other than a tank. I'm not sure if the enemy is in a bunker, building or trench (it's hard to tell), but this shows it being used for something else: YouTube Video.
  10. So, I'm busy trying to take Al Hawl, and I have a squad in a building, and want to advance them in bounds down the back of some buildings, where they can't be seen (See the yellow line in the link). I issue the orders and execute. Suddenly, my guys become suicidal, and decide to take a stroll down the street, with their backs to AN ENEMY TANK (See the red line in the link). Link to photo Needless to say, they wound up in bits at the bottom of a crater, and I ended up VERY unhappy. I'd have yelled at the computer, but it's 5:25am and I'd wake people up. Things like this REALLY need to be fixed...fast...
  11. The caption reads: "And their bodies were placed on the roof as a warning to all -- infidels will be killed..." Image Here
  12. I think it's the Lone Gunman. He's still making those magic bullets, and this is why he was never found: He's been living in Syria all these years...
  13. LOL! That must've been funny to see... Maybe that's the new Above-Top-Secret MBT of the US armed forces.
  14. Here's one of my guys getting smoked through the wall. You can see the fire coming from the small building in the distance, directly above the "Paused." http://www.flickr.com/photos/8356320@N03/935545669/ (Sorry, I can't figure out why it won't post the picture...) I must say, I've been enjoying this game, but this is the first time I've encountered this bug. My Casbah was getting rocked anyway, but this was very annoying. I'm sure something like this will get fixed relatively quickly. [ July 28, 2007, 11:29 PM: Message edited by: Krinks ]
  15. I found this statement in the manual when talking about t he M2A3 Bradley. I found it really funny, so I thought I'd share for those who may not have read it: (p.161)
  16. So... Would that make it... Operation: Smelly Cat? "US army officials today announced the launch of Operation: Smelly Cat. Syrian leaders were prompted to ask, 'What are they feeding those guys?'" Okay... I HAD to do it...
  17. Somewhere along the line, I seem to have lost my CMBB manual, and I was wondering how (if?) I can go about getting a new one? Thanks in advance.
  18. Can I use the Swastika mod from CMBO to replace the German markers, etc in CMBB? Are they the same file numbers? Thanks, Dale

    PBEM Problem

I'm tryingto get a PBEM game going, but I'm also trying to figure out which file to load. So I sent a file to myself to test it out. I set up my units as blue, then sent my orders to a floppy disk. When I tried to load the game as a red player, it kept asking me for the blue password. What gives? How does the red player start his game? What is the exact procedure for playing a PBEM? The manual isn't exactly clear on this to me. If anyone could help out I would appreciate it.
  20. I'm looking to change the title music in CMBO that is played in the menu screens. I'm assuming that I just need to replace the .wav file with one of my liking (perhaps the Band of Brothers theme, or Medal of Honor theme). Anyway, can someone tell me which .wav file the theme is? That way I don't have to go searching through all of them in the folder. Also, are there any good programs to change an MP3 to .wav that you can suggest? Thanks in advance! 21. If it helps to know, my computer is distinctly middle-of-the-line (these days lower-middle). When I played games like Rogue Spear, SWAT 3, or Delta Force: Land Warrior, Battlecom caused almost no trouble whatsoever. It's such a low CPU/RAM requirement that it's basically a non-issue, even with my crappy Celeron. And the sound quality is pretty good with BC as well.
  22. For a really interesting twist on the chat issue, I wonder if anyone has tried playing games using things like BattleCom, or Roger Wilco, or other such internet voice communications to simulate radio. I used to play Rogue Spear online with a bunch of people using BattleCom, and it worked great since you can have separate channels for each team. Or you can run each team on a separate server, using differend channels for Artillery, Infantry, Armour, etc... I'd love to get in on a CPX game using something like that. And it'd be much easier to communicate rather than having to worry about typing all of your commands.
  23. I'll take you up on that offer. I'm a newbie myself. Just set up a game and email it to me. krinks@yahoo.com
  24. If it helps to know, I actually did use the aircraft for a strike. I had some units having difficulty with ATGM and armor units, and the strike was meant to soften them up some. It just also happened to reveal enemy positions as well.
  25. I wonder if anyone could give me an opinion for future reference. I lost a recon element that was providing valuable intel on enemy positions, since the enemy is out of my direct LOS. As luck would have it, an airstrike was only about 2 minutes away and, when the plane flew overhead, the positions of the enemy units were revealed. My question is this: Is it gamey of me to take a screen capture of the position of enemy forces as the plane is flying over, and use that as a guide to direct artillery supportand unit movement? Would a real battlefield commander be able to use visual spotting or gun camera footage from the plane to assist his field units? I'm not playing against someone, so it doesn't matter if this is a cheat or not, but I don't want to do it in an actual game against someone if it's not realistic. Thanks for the input [ September 29, 2002, 09:43 AM: Message edited by: Krinks ]
