  1. Ah ha! Problem solved. Thanks Appreciated.
  2. For some reason, I can't take any screenshots in the game anymore. I press "Print Screen" but no pictures appear in the CMBO directory. Anyone know why this is? It's a minor thing, but It's bugging me Thanks
  3. "Snowball, Snowball, this is Iceberg... The penguin walks with a gaited limp. Repeat: The penguin walks with a gaited limp. Over."
  4. I'm using an ATI Radeon 32mb card, and have encountered a number of problems with the card during various games. One problem I had with CMBO was that the menuse for unitss would flicker annoyingly, but a simple driver update corrected that problem. Another of the problems is the aforementioned fog tables not being supported. This, in itself, would not be much of a problem, but the card also seems to have trouble switching from 2d to 3d and some textures take a few moments to fill themselves in. I've noticed that particular problem while playing Black & White. Sometimes if I switch views there is a blurry texture for a moment before the proper texture fills in. This isn't to say that it's a BAD card... it's certainly good if you don't have a lot of money or are not a hardcore gamer, but there are much better cards out there.
  5. Can anyone give me pointers on how to properly recon an area? Should you do it differently if you're defending as compared to attacking? What units work best as recon units? Any other pointers and advice is welcome too. Thanks ------------------ Krinks "If news travels at anything less than the speed of light now, it just means we weren't paying attention." --Bruce Sterling
  6. Being new to battlefield tactics, I still have an awful lot to learn about combat. Can anyone give me any general guidelines on when to make a tactical withdrawal? I'm kind of having a hard time deciding what is and is not acceptable loss, particularly with my armour and other vehicles. Is there any particular loss/kill ratio that people tend to stick to? Advice on this topic would be of great help. 7. Thanks, that's handy info to have. What do you think is a decent compromise between safe distance and accurate range for a mortar team? I've got mine just shy of 200m from the area target. Can't move it at the moment since they're providing cover fire. ------------------ Krinks "If news travels at anything less than the speed of light now, it just means we weren't paying attention." --Bruce Sterling
  8. I was keeping a squad or German troops pinned down in the woods until my backup can arrive. Doing the suppression was an M-7 Priest (with a thrown track from a sneaky Panzerschrek team) and an 81mm mortar team. During the action phase, I zoomed in on the area under suppressing fire and noticed what appeared to be airbursts from shells. I was kind of puzzled, and wondered what units could be using it, and how/if I could use it to my advantage. ------------------ Krinks "If news travels at anything less than the speed of light now, it just means we weren't paying attention." --Bruce Sterling
  9. Just to let you guys know, the 1.12 patch is NOT included on the CD. I just received the game three days ago, and I had to download the patch. PS: Sorry, this should've been a response to another topic. My mistake in changing the subject ------------------ --Krinks [This message has been edited by Krinks (edited 03-16-2001).]
  10. I'm still new to CMBO, and I need a little clarification regarding ambushes. First: How do you clear an ambush marker? I had 2 ambushes set up for enemy vehicles, but my AT gun was positioned on a hill, and able to destroy 2 half-tracks and a tank before they came anywhere near my troops. I then had my ambushing troops move to assist a group of soldiers who had fallen under attack in the woods, but couldn't figure out how to clear the ambush markers. Can anyone tell me how to do this? When I loaded my game today, it seemed that the markers had cleared themselves, does this happen automatically if the ambushing unit moves out of weapon range? What if I don't want to move my unit? Second: Can I set up an ambush for a specific enemy vehicle? For example, can I set an ambush point for a hidden bazooka team, and then use the target order to make them ambush a specific enemy unit. For example, if a column of enemy troops consists of a group of soldiers walking in front of a tank, can I make the team target the tank, causing them to wait until the foot soldiers have walked past the ambush point, and attack the tank when it reaches the point. Thanks for the help. I'm loving this game even though I don't normally play strategy games. ------------------ --Krinks
  11. Hey, thanks for the info. That patch fixed the problem completely. Still no fog, but I guess that's a problem with the card itself not supporting the fog Oh well, at least the battlefield isn't completely whited out. Out of curiosity, if I play a mission with fog in it, even though I can't see the fog, is the visibility of my units still affected? Can they use the fog for concealment even though I can't see it, and does it still limit their vision? Thanks again for the assist, ------------------ --Krinks
  12. I downloaded the version 4.12.3056 driver. If you're asking about which build, it says that it is build D7.13-CD01C Incidentally, it didn't fix the flickering text problem, but it did make it SLIGHTLY better. If I'm using the wrong driver, I'd appreciate if you'd let me know I'm not technically-minded, so I appreciate the help. Incidentally, this is a good forum ... quick responses. ------------------ --Krinks
  13. Thanks for the response. The new drivers have helped, but now I'm getting the grey-out fog conditions and can't see anything with fog effects. Any suggestions for this now? Sorry to be such a pain, but thanks again. ------------------ --Krinks
  14. Anyone know how to fix the flickering text with regards to the ATI Radeon 32mb video card? The game runs fine aside from the flickering text, which isn't HORRIBLE, but it is slightly annoying. The only time I don't get it is when I run it in software mode, but that pretty much blows I have a Celeron 500mhz, 128mb ram, 52X CD-ROM, ATI Radeon 32mb video card...latest drivers, DirectX 8, 56k modem. Any help would be appreciated if anyone else has this problem. ------------------ --Krinks
  15. I have a Celeron 500 and it runs fine. The minor glitch that I have involves my video card though, but not the CPU. The one you're considering should be fine.
