  1. I'm sorry to say that the answer to both your questions is 'no'. One thing you can do on CM:BB is use maps from the Scenario Depot to play QBs on - that should increase the excitement a bit.
  2. Good question. I had only just found out that infantry could pass between buildings but it does seem odd that support units can't. Do you know whether it's also HMGs, sharpshooters, ATRs or if it's just mortars?
  3. Your 37mm AT guns can only get a kill on the Russian T34s from the side, or from a direct strike on the very front centre of the turret - so if the turret is facing even a couple of degrees away from you, you won't put a shot through it. I managed an effective victory by putting one of my 37mm AT guns at the very back of the map, on the right hand side. From there it was able to knock out two T-34s and helped to swing the game in my favour.
  4. Would you mind if I stole it for the FAQ thread bullethead?
  5. I don't know of one yet. If anyone has a link to one, I'll include it in the FAQ.
  6. Why on earth would they be included?
  7. I think you're talking about the film "Enemy at the Gates." I haven't seen it. There's definitely no modelling for 'snipers' in the game. One of the reasons I found when going back through the archives was that snipers are very good at spotting stuff on the battlefield, and due to the constraints of the game engine what one unit sees, everyone sees - so they would be a huge imbalance to the game. When I have the points spare, I will buy one or two sharpshooters per company, but only if I've had my fill of mortars, HMGs and anti-tank rifles. If you're having trouble with HMGs, mortars should keep them quiet (unless they're in heavy buildings).
  8. I have no idea why he was called that. There is a difference between snipers and sharpshooters and snipers aren't modelled in the game. There have, I can assure you, been endless arguments about the difference and how it should be modelled. Alright, I admit it - it's 30 posts before you lose your junior member tag. Then you become my Tea Boy until you make 500 posts. Milk, no sugar, and not too strong. Jump to it
  9. *slump* Please, please don't call them snipers. Cal them sharpshooters. There is a difference - just do a search under 'sharpshooter' or 'sniper' and be prepared for 4,000 turgid posts. Sharpshooters are excellent for picking off tank commanders and the like. They aren't much use for straightforward fighting due to their low ammo load. To lose your junior member tag, you need 500 postings.
  10. Doug, you should be ashamed of yourself, grovelling like that to MrSpankwit. No wonder you're going bald if you have your head that far up his backside.
  11. Don't upset Illo. He's an Uberfinn. Oooh, they're scary - not to mention bloodyminded to boot.
  12. Bearded clams....hee hee hee. Why bother joining a clan? Because it's W00T!!! I would join but I'm not cool enough and I don't wear a baseball cap backwards. Oh, and I already have my pubic hair.
  13. Bruno, I was thinking much the same thing: If I'm happy with my girlfriend, do I need to be harassed by a couple of naughty schoolgirls?
  14. For me, Steve, it comes down to one thing. I liked CM:BO in particular because I was able to play the Brits, Canadians and Americans and have lots of exciting Band of Brothers/Bridge too far heroes/villians battles. With TWO villians - it's that much harder Thanks for your input, I am glad CMBB is selling so well. Has your linking up with CDV made a significant difference in European sales?
  15. I love QBs against the AI. Keep the points at 500 or less, turns at 20 or less, and set everything to random. Pick Axis one time, Allies the next, and play till you drop! I can see what you mean about more depth meaning less fun (I think that's what you mean )I am enjoying QBs much more than scenarios, primarily I think because my PC is struggling so much with scenarios over 1,000 pts per side. I haven't started PBEM or TCP/IP on CMBB and I think that'll be the big test for me. If you want to PBEM someone, email me and we'll see if we can't make it fun again
  16. Remove them from the game? I hate to say it,but that's mad papers of doom. Even a partly-working ATR is better than none at all, particularly when you consider their importance on the eastern front. I can live without ATRs firing on soft targets, but I would howl and wail if anyone actually thought about taking them out.
  17. Posted by Pansy Chafer You what? Sounds like one of them thar forrun things to me. What's an incerely? Do you want me to tell them to bring their own beer?
  18. Try lots of tiny quick battles, 500 points or less, and let the computer pick your units. Drop turns to 20 and you can get through 3 of these games an hour. In a typical QB, you might end up with a company of infantry, some supporting MGs and mortars, and a couple of tanks. I tend to use some tanks on overwatch and push a few forward about 50-100m behind the infantry. There is lots of advice in the Tips and Tricks forum which you should avail yourself of.
  19. I ran a couple of tests. First I fired up a few 500pt QBs vs the AI. Then I tested my reaction times reaching the fridge for beer. I did this twelve times. Then I fired up a few more 500pt QBs vs the AI. I got ****ed over badly. This goes to prove that the AI cheats by not drinking beer.
