Best Game of all Time?
Soddball replied to Gaylord Focker's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Thanks to this thread, I wasted almost all day trying to get Elite for the Archimedes working on my PC (emulator, software, OS, *yawn*). Thanks again. -
MasterGoodWaffle's Thread of Cheery Ale

I wasn't aware that there was any attempt at competition. My only goal is to keep that foaming frotwanker MasterTalkBollocks from creating 10 gazillion posts in the main forum. Anyone who don't like it can hush, particularly you Mr R19asiasuoaspodkadpokJ$!£"!12121. Tch. -
Purchase CMBB alone or bundled CMBO & CMBB set?
Soddball replied to mdr220846's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Once of the nicest things about CM:BO is that the combat you encounter is totally different from CM:BB. I would recommend CM:BO for a couple of reasons: 1) It's the Western Front. People have preferences about what theatre they want to play in, and my preference is for the Western front. If you like the thrill of being on the 'good' side then it's great. 2) It's easier to play and to dive into quickly because you need to know less about tactics than in CM:BB. CM:BB is harder, no doubt about that, because it's so much more realistic. Infantry arent' the tough, grizzled heroes they are in the Western Front. Some of the downsides: 1) The standard graphics look poor by today's standards. Mods definitely improve this, making the terrain and vehicles far more attractive, and adding immersion to the game. 2) Machine guns aren't very effective in CM:BO, which makes attacks by infantry easier than they would have realistically been. There's nothing you can do to get round this. This is fixed in CM:BB 3) Some units (flamethrowers, machine guns and mortars) can be a pain to use because they can't "run" anywhere. This is fixed in CM:BB So to sum up, it's fun to have and a good learning curve. It's also a worthy addition if you like the Western Front. It is, however, hard to go and play CM:BO when CM:BB is so much better. -
Right, this is the new thread. No bugger should post in the old one. Got it?

MasterGoodale's Thread of Cheery Waffle
Soddball replied to Abbott's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Hmm, clearly General Pasquini and Arax3 haven't considered the alternative to this thread, which is MasterGoodWaffle continually filling the CM:BB forum with ****e threads. That's why this thread was created. And on that note, it needs locking up. No more postings in here please, once we hit 300 posts we can kiss the BFC forum server goodbye Abbot - best wishes for your son's recovery. My younger brother went through a series of radiotherapy treatments for a brain tumour (probably caused by meningitis when he was a baby) and had a shunt fitted. He is well now but you never know when these things can reoccur. -

Personally, I have my doubts. To have one child with MasterGoodale could be an accident, to have two would seem like suicidal recklessness. I have few fears on that score. -

You need to unplug that computer and take your wife out for the evening. -
The chap has fewer brain cells than fingers. It's unlikely he could understand the long words we'd use. Let him be. We need people like him to clean loos, sweep floors and do low-paid, mucky jobs.

*SIGH* Thanks for the info - still makes me want to slap CDV silly. -
Best Game of all Time?
Soddball replied to Gaylord Focker's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
For me, the best game is still Elite - even on my Acorn Electron, it was great. Frontier was ok, but I think the time is right for an online multiplayer Elite. Ohhh, mama. -

Soddball replied to Bry Barnard's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Any news from BFC or CDV on this little gem? I'm not downloading it because I, too, have Win2K and don't want to chance things going belly up. Well, that's the second reason. The first reason is that downloading a 68mb file on a 56k modem with a 2-hour timeout is impossible (will need download accelerator or something). Incidentally, if the US patch is 25MB, then (pardon my french) what the flying **** is the CDV patch coming in at 68MB for? -

If you have such opinions and feel forced to voice them, do it somewhere restrained like in the Cheery Waffle thread. That's what it was created for. Otherwise, hush. I hate agreeing with you, Seanachai. It makes you look good. -

I leave my computer for three days and this twirling nonce we call GoodWasteofSkin rampages through the forum? Where are you people when I need you? Gooddale!! You nonce! This thread is for you, and nowhere else. Now can it or I'll get you done over so fast you'll think it was yesterday. Or something. -

What the bloody buggery are all you Pengers doing in here? Shoo! Shoo! Just for DoctorGoodHead      Ye gods, he's going to need another thread, this one's just about full. -
I'm just putting together an AAR from a battle I played this afternoon against the AI, using a conscript pioneer company to attack dug-in Russian forces in a large town. Final result - 96/4 in my favour, but it will show how it's possible to attack well-equipped enemy forces with conscript troops.
