  1. Different strategic needs provide for different solutions. U.S. had to ship their tanks further to get to the battlefield as well as ammo, parts and fuel. the biggest threat to western advances was in getting fuel to the tanks. (See Red Ball Express.) Germans has less manufacturing capacity than U.S. and less raw resources. Thus less actual numbers of tanks, the bit about more tanks per is a red herring. The U.S. fielded more tanks in less time. My numbers ar not available right now but somebody can look 'em up. U.S. and British doctrine was to control the air and thus tanks were for fighting alongside infantry (how many panzers were destroyed or thwarted trying to reach the beach at Normandy). German doctrine had Tanks for fighting against tanks. Kursk did not and would not occur on the western front. Therefore German armor was superior in fighting tanks, if they could get to the western battlefield. They forgot, infantry is queen of the battlefield, not tanks. I think they learned the wrong lesson from Kasserine Pass and France '40.
  2. No Saint here but there is no saintliness about it. I suppose you think there is a difference between pirating software, music, etc. and stealing someones car because they left the key in it. The honor system works for most people. For others, I lock the door to keep from tempting them. Just to make it clear, I do not pirate software or music. I discourage others from doing it as well. BTW I have a CD-R and use it to make legal copies of legally owned software. Backup important data. Make copies of patches, etc. for use in maintaining clients Pc's/networks. I use it to store digital photos that are my property and sounds that I have created. I use it to archive data. I own tools that could be used to burgle (forceps, dental tools, files, dental picks) I happen to use them in various modeling hobbies. This does not give me license to burgle. Is this a particularly difficult concept to understand? DO NOT PIRATE [ December 22, 2002, 10:40 AM: Message edited by: Egbert ]
  3. Sounds a blast. I can do it next week and give comment. email is in profile.
  4. This should have been the first clue it was British troops. Forget the sodding pictures. Murkin troops are well aware of the proper things to mount, and we don't call it equipment. We call it: She who must be obeyed. Pay attention. Don't even bother to sod, just off.</font>

  6. http://www.balvenie.com I recommend the doublewood. And don't by god, as some have mentioned, think of drowning the thing. A drop, drop and no more to bring out the aroma, any more and you've wasted it. With this stuff, any gamey manuever is heroic.
  7. I've gotta take this one with a grain of salt. This one individual was very involved in a little too many "rarities" and famous events. Moscow, Dresden, Anzio, Stalingrad, Fallshermlager (sp?), SS, Secret weapon sighting, the first Sturmpanzers, King Tigers. Just feels a little too fantastic for me.
  8. Rune, Your thoughtfulness in this is very good. I have a reason to show interest in the topic and find the issue would not be misunderstood with a few tasteful notes in the briefing. Any event can be twisted and/or taken the wrong way. Simply assuming the role of the Nazis or Soviets in "playing" a side in the battle could be enough to send some people into fits. The military gaming community is not one to be easily offended. I'll volunteer to be one of your testers.
  9. The reason there is no horse in the game is that the AI would Always backup before taking the first shot... It was a bug. If that's your chief complaint, buy a second copy of the game, ya ninny. {Edited to emphasize just how goofy a complaint it is.} [ December 05, 2002, 12:25 PM: Message edited by: Egbert ]
  10. Lost in the subtly ,eh? I'll 'splain. The NSSB is advertised for loosers. I am a NewB, informed to practice on the insults to rise the ire to a challenge. One must first stick his head above the muck to have it stomped back down. I appreciate your apparently gentle step but perchance you would press harder that I know for sure you are there and see how thick it gets and how high it rises? I shall endeavor to use language you comprehend. ------------------ "Thou art but a crusty batch of nature." WS
  11. Nothing so complicated. I played the demo and couldn't justify the game cost for a bit. Like any other starry-eyed twerp I sought out all I could. Just so happens the first thread that catches my eye is the Peng. Now I see it's obvious - God watches for fools and drunkards. These guys are watched twice. 12. I tried this, wife got pissed, I didn't bring her. Now I have a designated driver for nudie bars and something to do with my time when I get home.
  13. I'm all confused on this losing bit. Somehow I get the impression somebody here feels there is a better way. I mean really, it's alot easier, to watch all the explosions.
  14. Since this is the proper forum for idiots like myself to post stupid questions- I would like to ensure the time, effort and vitriol has a place to go. What is the difference between a Junior member and a member. (and more disturbing, how can this board see the dimensions of my member so accurately? ) ------------------ "Um,.....HELP?!"
  15. If it is possible, add me if the third division grows large enough. I have these new parachutes I'd like to try out. The manufacturer guarantees them to open on impact. My veterans love the concept because it is a real stress reliever (one of the paratroopers told me their greatest fear is that their 'chutes won't open). What they don't have to know is how much money we saved over the last model. Egbert ------------------ "Um,.....HELP?!"
  16. Perhaps I can be of assistance here. "babushka" runs through all of the slavic languages and has many meanings according to context. 1) Scarf esp. old woman's head scarf hence: 2) old woman (one who wears old women's head scarves) 3) Grandmother (note capitalization), as in my old woman that wears old women's head scarves. Never heard of a word having different meanings? If you were paying attention you might realize that Polish, Hungarian and Russian trade alot of cultural pieces due to their similarity and proximity. Thus the well meaning but misplaced correction by the nice young lady in your post. And furthermore, I would look upon the tart in the office as an expert as well just because she seems to have a childrens book that refers vaguely to the subject at hand as well. Somehow I really can't get this to sound as lightly teasing as I would like. Please adjust ears as appropriate. ------------------ "Um,.....HELP?!"
