  1. Reading all this is a trip! Some people clearly need to get a life or a wife...Steve seems to have led the way on this one, guys. Find a gal who brings you beer while you play CM and know what heaven is like I'm a big CM fan in part because of the grogginess of it and the fact that I adore small business and do anything I can to support them. BTS may sell a million of the damn things, but as long as there are just 4 guys smackin' keys behind it, well then it's a small business. It's amazing how the internet has enabled us to vent our rage the way we occasionally see here. I've fallen prey to my emotions at the keyboard once or twice and am ashamed of that fact. Like road rage, it's not pretty nor is it something to be proud of. Fortunately, most posters here are quite civil and well-spoken. This forum remains my home page precisely because of that display of values. Enough babbling. BTS, if you bothered to read this drivel, whythehell ain't you busy coding CM2???? Git! We'll cover ya!
  2. I'm surprised, not having yet seen the article, that the minimum requirements have grown to a 32mb video card. I specifically recall Steve saying that the game would be able to support cards with less, certainly 16mb. Is this actually what the article says?
  3. Yaaaawwwn...OK, I'll bite. (As if... ) Always glad to see new mods. Maybe they're all out playing CM!
  4. Speaking for myself (whothehell else, eh?) I'd love to see a CC2 type campaign option in CM version whatever... It wouldn't need to be too complex, but simply allow me to nurse a few key units from green to elite over several operations or series of battles. If it included options for exchanging equipment, upgrading versions, adding replacements and taking advantage of leaders and their experience...well, WOW, it'd knock me for a loop! I love CM and only ask that the system as we know it, grow without sacrifices, i.e. corruption or dilution.
  5. Man, all this poochie humor makes me want to barf!
  6. Peter, you have to run the executeable update for the patch to install. Find the .exe file in your folder and double-click on it, that should do it.
  7. I'd like to see all command links for all friendly units highlighted at once. I ditto request for unit list floating window, preferably hyperlinked so that one can go directly to unit on map. This could also have some marker to reflect how many enemy units are sighted by this particular unit, or are currently firing at the friendly unit. These enemy unit icons should also be hyperlinked to the units on the map. Finally, (for now at least) I'd like the capability to see shaded in color overlay what the viewing area of a particular unit would be.
  8. Just to add my 2 bits: I like it just the way it is...don't "fix" what's working well, fer cryin' out loud!
  9. Does anybody following this thread collect actual large ordnance ammo rounds? (Inert of course). Just curious...I do, and would like to hear from others about their collections. [ 05-28-2001: Message edited by: gunnergoz ]
  10. The flakturm were very impressive and several survive today. Go to http://freespace.virgin.net/roy.smith5/berlin.htm and check it out for yourselves.
  11. Not meaning to offend, but have you unzipped the files?
  12. I know of no reason why the Brit version should be slower firing. Same gun. Ammo storage a bit different but both have ready racks for quick fire situations. The rounds are so small, it's no sweat to keep the bugger firing like an MG.
  13. My wife doesn't mind my playing CM too much as long as I'm killing lots of Germans Need I say, she's Ukrainian?

  15. These authors, like anybody else, make mistakes. I was yesterday reading an otherwise authoritative and credible history of the Eastern front and the author, David Glantz, who has a seemingly expert grasp of grand strategy and operational art, idiotically refers to the Panther and Tiger as both carrying 88mm guns. And he wasn't speaking about the JagPanther, guys! Obviously, he was out of his area of expertise, but come on... It does sort of make you wonder about the quality of academic preparation some of these "successful" (i.e. widely published)historians may have had. Could it be that we grognards actually have a leg up on these ivory tower types? We may argue about how many 88's can dance on the head of a pin, but we do know the difference between the two!
  16. Do troops in transparent buildings catch cold easier?
  17. Sort of makes one wonder...who could be the TRULY BADASS M-F who could rip a testicle off of old Adolph? Then again, an old war wound, perhaps? Or did Geli get too frisky one night? It got me to thinking about how my own grandfather lost an ear to rats as he slept one night in the Alpine trenches of the WWI Italian front. If something like that happened to der Fuhrer, I pity the poor rodent...
  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Mike the bike: ...I've done my bit in that direction adn it's up to he younger generations to keep breeding now!! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Mike, does this mean you're a non-breeding variety of Kiwi? Wouldn't that make one a kiwifruit, perchance? TELL ME IT ISN'T SO, MATE!
  19. HI MOM! Before this gets locked up I just wanted to comment that perhaps the Kiwi's really need to keep their cards in the old international military power club game. You never know when you might need to clobber a few pesky foreign insurgents who have an eye for your shipping; and outright pirates are not unknown in that part of the world. Also, a nation with no air power at all would be seen as a juicy target by some terrorist state or organization. The word here is deterrence and in that game, some air force is better than none. Personally, I'd not want a pissed-off A-4 with a well-trained pilot anywhere near my family jewels! It may be old but its a grand airplane and can deliver a Mk-82 with the best of them.
  20. A quick and dirty answer- If the mods are for terrain, units or vehicles, put them in the "bmp" sub-directory of the main CMBO directory. Sounds go in the "wav" directory. Be sure to save the original files of the same number first, though, perhaps by renumbering them with a suffix, eg "1550x.bmp". Many threads exist about this process and you might also want to check the better sites like Combat Mission HQ at http://www.combatmission.com/. They have guidelines and suggestions on how to become a bona-fide modding 'ho like the rest of us. Enjoy!
  21. Dream on... Maybe after the release of CMII, but even then I doubt it. I know that, were I Charles and Steve, I wouldn't give it away, ohnooo! I'm happy with their work and line of thinking so far, I just wish they were cloned and could work FASTER!
