1.
quote:
Originally posted by Jeff Duquette: Thanks much gunnergoz. You reckon they have a web site?

Try http://www.gunvideo.com/ but I don't see the video advertised there or in their .pdf file catalog. The one I have has a stock number of #M0052, if that helps.
 2. Like we all know, features that slow some systems can simply be turned off, right? I hate to have something left out if most players can take advantage of it.
 3. Well, maybe so but I say balderswoggle! If we can have smoke rounds, we can have dust trails. Maybe non-persistent, maybe not too much but we should be able to have some effort to simulate this in part...C'mon BTS do somfink!
 4. I was watching that most interesting History Channel series on the Eastern front war last night and was taken by all the color footage of the war on the steppes. After a few minutes, I noticed how much dust there was flying around...especially as units moved and convoys traced their way through these endless plains. Surely this was of importance in pointing out to the troops where the advancing enemy was coming from? And more often than not, would it not have hindered observation for units at the rear of the columns? Wouldn't gunfire be raising clouds of dust that would be a dead giveaway of their position, not to mention obscuring subsequent shots? All of these things came to mind, and I began to see how vital it would be to replicate this in CMBtB. Now, I may be deaf, dumb and blind, this was probably discussed in previous threads, but I find that I cannot do searches on this forum for CRAP any more...nothing happens except timeouts and error messages. So, if this is old business, please excuse me for my gaffe...if it's new business, let the discussion begin! [ 06-26-2001: Message edited by: gunnergoz ]
 5. Hello all, particularly Jeff, The so-called MG-42 training film we spoke about in an earlier thread is sold as "Infantry Weapons and their Effects" by GunVideo, 4585 Murphy Canyon Rd. San Diego CA 92123. Their phone is 619 569 4000 and their 800 is 942 8273. Some nifty stuff there, you'll all enjoy the heck out of it. I don't recall the price, must have been 20 bucks or so.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by tiborhead: snip ... Now keep in mind she knows nothing about the units or the tactics of the game, so I had to help her out a bit with the setup and showed her how I would tackle the situation. I won't go into the details of the game, but in the end I had a total victory. She did put up quite a fight though (Knocked out one of my Tigers and cut up 2 of my PZgrenadier platoons)...

A true gentleman would have let the lady have the uberpanzers and taken the ronsons for himself...she might have kicked your ass then and really thrilled herself! Then again, you might not ever get her off your PC afterwards...
 7. Whats all the hubbub about...can't get anything except a page in German...
 8. Hi AFAIK the 20mm fuze was impact only and yes the round did explode like a small grenade if you will. Very messy if it hit a human, from what I read the scene of a man blowing up in the film Saving Private Ryan was pretty realistic. As to the issue of being a tank killer, I could surmise that an inexperienced or panicky crew might take badly to the rounds exploding on their hull. The rounds might also do significant damage to external objects like periscopes, radio antenna, fuel tanks etc and that might KO the tank for that encounter at least. A lucky hit might damage track links or suspension components which were'nt always well protected. All in all, a very versatile weapon!
 9. Thanks, I'm really burned out on that damn deafening explosion when I log off! I'm going to replace it with a nice soothing Abrams turbine (anyone have it?) or a Patton diesel
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Jeff Duquette: Not to change the subject, but someone mentioned a training film by the US War Department on the MG-42. I recall seeing bits of this thing several years ago…can’t recall where. Perhaps it was part of something else of the History Channel? Anyone know where a video copy of this thing can be obtained? snip.

I've got a copy but can't get back to you for a couple of days...I'll get you the name of the source, though, be patient.
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Schutzstaffel: this picture shows a grass mod but i want that tree base mod, anyone know who made it?

I must confess, 'twas my variation of JuJu's tree base, although many people would find it hard to believe. I used Paintshop pro filtering to turn the bases into scads of pixels which turns out to look a lot like grass even close up. Only works for tree bases, though. I'm pretty sure it's on the Last Defense site. If you can't locate it let me know and I'll re-post it. Warning-it is hi-res, taking up a 512x512 tile and so will bog slower systems or those with little VRAM.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Scipio: Sorry, this is a big missunderstanding! This is not a fan site, it's a self-help group for addicts

WHO WANTS HELP? Speak for yourself. I don' need no stinkin' help. I play CM all the time. No problem. What was the question? Where am I? Is this the up elevator? Thanks for sharing...My name is Gunnergoz and I'm a CM addict...

 14. In part, the film about the MG42 and other German weapons that the US Army produced was the result of the rumors and panic that set in after the first American Army troops got their baptism of fire in North Africa (remember Kasserine?) Troops convalescing in the US after suffering wounds and reporters talking to troops still overseas spread rumors of German weapon lethality. Don't forget that until their first battles, US troops were very inculcated with the ideas (some faulty some true) that their weapons were THE BEST IN THE WORLD. This was part propaganda and part wishful thinking on the part of US leaders. Actually, no one knew how these US weapons and tactics would actually work until they were tried out in combat. Thanks to the GI Rumor Mill, we have the legendary 88 (every German gun was one, you know), the MG 42 (cuts a man in half before he even knows it), the Nebelwerfer (Screamin' Meemie, calculated to drive you into instant shell-shock), the "invincible" Tiger (again, every German tank from then on was "an 88-armed Tiger"), the Focke-Wulf (knocks down P-40's without a breaking into a sweat) and so on. I don't think that this was confined to US troops, it's probably only human to consider your adversary a bit larger than life if he's just given you a good drubbing. The best part (for the Yanks) was their adaptability and determination. They never let battlefield bloody noses stop them from devising new methods and then coming up for a second round in the fight. Looking at it from the point of US Army leadership, they had to produce training films that would realistically confront soldier's fears about the enemy UberWeapons, including tactics to defeat the weapons with the tools the GI's were trained with. Like most of us, I wouldn't have wanted to face that MG42 myself, but knowing what it was and could do was essential if solders were to overcome their fears and get on with the business of war.
 15. Hunnicutt says the US Army accepted about 6700 M-10's and M-10A1's during the war. He also gives the total of 1648 that went to Great Britain under Lend-Lease, although it is not clear if that number came out of the US Army acceptances cited...I personally think not. The British in particular wanted certain internal modifications (especially for radio fit) that were made at the factory in some cases, thus making it less likely that the US Army would be involved in "accepting" such modified vehicles. It was rare for "accepted" vehicles to go to foreign clients, but exceptions occurred, such as the time that the US armored divisions were stripped of M-4 Shermans for British use in the desert in '42. Hunnicutt offers no numbers as to Achilles conversions, except to say something like "many were converted" or somesuch.
 16. I think that the '50's and '60's would be the most interesting East-West confrontations that CM could conceivably play host to. A lot of the hardware was basically WWII upgraded stuff (90mm Pattons and 17/20-lbr (?) Centurions vs 100mm T-54's) and helicopters hadn't made their impact yet. Infantry weapons ditto. Big challenges for the U.S. before the advent of smart weapons and ATGM's. Troop quality varied greatly (especially after VietNam started draining resources). Scads of different NATO and Eastern Bloc weapons and troops...need I say more? Sounds juicy, don't it? Think of it as WW2 on steroids I think CMII could probably handle it...we need to start harassing BTS about it after CMII is under development, whenever that happens.
 17. Truly impressive, I'd love to see it when it's done...
 18. The marsh has blue tint to it to simulate the sky reflecting off it...the terrain looks a lot better in 3-D, believe me. For the best views, go to the web site at the top of the thread, that's my new showroom so to speak. Anyway, thanks. [ 06-19-2001: Message edited by: gunnergoz ]
 19. Thanks Panzer Leader, that's why I went to Homestead to post those photos...I fear some guys will get impatient waiting to load those pics into the forum. All in all, a bit more work with Homestead, but now I can post all my favorite samples there to see what people have to say. As the saying goes, feedback is appreciated
 20. Considering Microsoft maybe they should be excusioners...
 21. Hello Troops, I appreciate what a pain it is to wait for a modem to download images on this forum. So, I've taken a hint and posted images of my latest hi-res grass, bases, rough, marsh, bush etc at the following url: http://gunnergoz.homestead.com/1.html Three pages await you and I warn you they are big images (1280 x 1024 - my screen size) but they give you a good view of what I like my version of CMBO to look like. Credits: houses and trees and some road by Magua; bush base based upon JuJu's tree base; skies from Magua as well (THANKS YOU GUYS! } If you guys like this stuff, let me know and I'll try to find a place to host the files.
 22. Again, on the issue of changing out terrain tiles (and other mods), I can't urge people enough to get a graphic managment program like Compupic, that lets you see the entire directory in thumbnails. You can move stuff around, rename it and view it close up...Cpic even lets you do significant alterations (lighten, brighten, resize, etc) all from the image viewer. Highly recommended. BTW, I have some bases on The Last Defense, you might try them out.
 23. Wattabuncha clowns! LOL! I'll get the images posted in a day or two, maybe some better ones as well. Thanks for the interest, this is one grass that's legal to own...
