  1. Bah! Warm piss in my boot would have more wit and panach that the limp-wristed, tit-for-tat shown in the MBT. I weep for the lost glory.
  2. Birdstrike, E models use the 9-line from JTAC and then follow up with SNIPER pods for LGB delivery, otherwise the 9-line gives the location for the JDAM delivers. Strafes DO NOT happen in a line except for Hollywood. The footage from when the 391st went to CENTAF shows the burst is a POINT weapon due to speed of rounds and limited time. Remember that the a/c only hold 4-6 seconds of fire (except for A-10s) so its short short bursts when needed. You do get an approach line developed in the 9-line to avoid friendly fire, but the guy on the ground isn't going to tell the pilot how to fly...just what to kill and where its at.
  3. +1 "points of pride" are easily supplanted by other factors; USAF may be proud that it has prevented enemy aircraft from attacking US ground forces; the number of attacks they personally prosecuted on US and allied forces kind of mitigates a bit of that. Not to lay blame or imply it isn't inevitable, just saying, is all. A 20 year old mother's son is just as dead regardless of whether a Hind or an A-10 killed him. </font>
  4. All HEI, that is what the F-15Es that replaced them in Afganistan are carrying now.
  5. I wouldn't say, "killing" but battlefield effects are greater by air and arty at the operational level. Air and arty funnel and attrit but do not defeat. (I say this as an Air Force weenie). You are however correct in stating that any force (light, medium, or heavy) is never so "deep" as to be out of reach of support. I think the conventional roles of light, medium and heavy have changes. In WW2 the infantry was designed to penetrate the MDL and then the "heavy" armor would race through and move into deep or medium breakthru operations. Now, I believe that heavy units are the one designated to open the hole in a conventional MDL. At that point is when a medium forces comes into its own. It now becomes the follow on exploitation unit. At that point light infantry can move through to widen the gap and provide flank security for the medium force with the heavy force now held in reserve. I think everyone has a picture of a Stryker bridge hanging out 50km behind the lines on their own...when in reality they would be the tip of a larger force behind them.
  6. Battlefront, I purchased and downloaded DropTeam about 4 days ago. As soon as I purchased it my laptop took a dive and is in getting repaired. I just purchased the download and my other laptop had the download code and the downloaded files. How can I download again onto my second computer? Or can I even do that? Thanks
  7. Ya, we sent a bunch of stuff from Korea to CENTCOM as well as the prepo ships dumped a lot of stuff in there recently.
  8. ARGH!! Bought the game and downloaded...and now my gaming laptop is in for service for another 2 weeks. AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I could did out my B-52 CAST book, but its pretty generic. Steve, As for ammo, that is for sure. The Army bought 5.56 from the ROK for USFK training and 5.56 & 7.62 (I think) from Isralies for Iraq. There just isn't the surge ammo capability in the US any more.
  10. Really? Welcome to the airforce...where I've worked on BUFFs of 1960-61 constructions. C-130E of 80s construction. The F-15E-220s are mid 80sm the F-15E-229 are early 90s. the F-16CJs were the newest at 1996. The problem is that the Army hasn't spent any money on War Reserve Material in a decade or more. Heck they have a $20B shortfall in WRM ammo alone...not counting continuing training requirements or replacing ageing stockpiles. Welcome to the world of the DoD, we're all working with equipment that is at best 10years old.
  11. Ok, cool that does make sense. I'll just play around in single player mode if necessary.
  12. Hello all, I finally spent some time looking at this game (and frankly the AARs made me drool) so I downloaded the latest patch and all seemed well. I could see the four available servers with 1/12 on the new server I've heard everyone talk about. My question is the interoperability of the demo and the full game. I think I read I only get one map...does that mean I can play others on that one map? I'd like to give this one a try before buying it...so can a demo guy like me play people with the full version?
  13. Really not that much taller is it? Just differently proportioned. The Sherman was a good tank, not a great tank, but a good tank...and very good at what its original mission was...killing infantry.
  14. Ok, just saw the show (Ya, DVR). Several issues jump out at me. 1. The Team should have NVGs in their packs, but its cooler when they don't..more story drama. 2. A platoon security detachement may not have the best equipment around. 3. Show a perfectly valid situation where the Syrians could plan and execute against US forces where we don't hold every advantage. #3 is the key to this, the enemy gets a vote and the US forces may be on the receiving end of that tactical/strategic move. It was a fairly realistic scenario where a small US outpost/log base is hit with a superior force....and it would be a fun scenario to play out in CM:SF.
  15. All very true, but the scenario is still valid. There will be times that the US forces won't always be keyed up, 9 month in country vets with all the cool toys and tons of airpower.
  16. JasonC, Two issues I'd like to talk about with this. 1. What source did these numbers come from? Just for my own curiousity. 2. You have given total munitions expenditures and placed them against one particular target set. The 5000 GBU-12s that were dropped were NOT dropped all on AFVs, or even MBTs. So the unknown in all of this is how many Mavericks/GBU-12s/etc were actually fired/dropped at an AFV versus how many AFVs were actually destroyed by those weapons. I don't know that answer, but everything I've seen in the USAF planning so far (and I've been assigned to USFK J-staff) is a much higher PK for air munitions that your stating. I believe your underestimating the effectiveness of Air munitions as this stage of development.
  17. DWEEB? DWEEB? Did perhaps the Morman Wives from Hell steal your small, shriveled manhood? I thought this thread was about a rapier sharp wit.(not that we've ever managed such superiority) but please...DWEEB? No viger, no panache, no...no...no hatred! Down with Joe
  18. Correct John. Been there for a while actually. Just deployed mine out this last week.
  19. It also cost Oleg dearly as one addon completely sucked and his team was forced off of their new game into fixing the issues a 3rd player addon caused.
  20. Yep, no defense against optical systems. (read ZSU-23/4, 57-2, etc.)
  21. Steve is right in the perspective of modeling airpower effects in CMSF. (only appropriate as its his game). From a ground pounder's percpective its irrelevent on the airframe used to deliver the weapon. (something the AF has been preaching to the Army by the way.) As long as a bomb falls at the right time who cares who dropped it. You could simulate a full B52 drop by using 6 F-16s in the scenario (For JDAM). At that point all we are missing is the "B-52" monikor on the drop down menu.
  22. They are projected to be in service until 2040, although I'll see if I can find anything. They are the only airforce CALCM shooters for one and they also will be a primary JASSM shooter. B52 will go into a fairly extensive threat enviroment, also you assume that the IADS will be operational for the entire span of the war. The first priority of the AF will be Air Superiority and that includes reduction of the IADS. Will there be certain areas at first, sure. But most of the long range SAM (2,3,5) are fixed emplacements that receive a TLAM or CALCM in short order. Its a role reversal, but bomber are here to stay in today's limited (and by limited I mean against less than the Chinese) warfare scenario.
  23. Conventional Air Launched Cruise Missiles? Were those used for frontline CAS? </font>
