  1. Some people might want to shoot me for this but I've found telling new players to be a bit of a save whore while they are learning the game to be effective.

It can be highly beneficial replay certain actions again and again to refine tactics and discover how those tactics are implemented though the user interface.

It also reduces frustration for newer players. If you make a bum move and lose half your armour you just reload and try to think of a tactic that would gain you a better result. You can compress hours of scenario experience down to a few games and make the learning experience as fun as possible.

You then move on to the school of hard knocks. ;)

This is really excellent and something my very impatient self should do more of...

  2. I think you are just too close to the game.  I have found that people associated with a software developer for too long, game software or business software, have a hard time dealing with people that have issues with the software.  Its just human nature.  I have seen this in factory automation software where an individual becomes an expert in the software and that becomes his identity.  He becomes very cranky when people question any aspect of the software, as only an engineer can.

Your perspective is completely different than someone who sees CM for the first time after playing ARMA or COD.  You see the same issue with ARMA also.  There are people who spend their whole young adult life modding ARMA and it has become their identity.  They can't move on or get any perspective on how other people perceive the game.

The fact you can't understand people not having the same wonder makes me think you just need to take a break.

Did you even read his post?

  3. Not sure we need one but what the hey!

How about that map?  Any idea where the extra foliage came from?

Anyone else load up their forces and take a whack at this against the AI?  The Panthers are a real pain for the AI.  I need to flip to the Allies to see if I can manage to kill them from the heights.

Post any comments you may have that neither Bil or Doug should see until after.

    Thanks,

    Bobo

  4. I have done a bit of experimenting. Whenever I start a QB with map 290 and select Human Unit Purchase for both sides I get the extra trees on the map. When I select Automatic Unit Purchase for both sides, I get the map version with fewer trees.

All maps I get include Casa Finocchio (unlike the screenshots that Bobo posted).

    Weird.

Regardless, Bil wants to continue on with the map we started with, and so do I.

My shots were from the Scenario Editor only...  When I tried a QB I got Casa Finocchio but the same trees as my editor screenshots.   I am NOT on CMFI 3.0 which may be the difference.

  5. Well, I asked Bil if he wanted to continue with my map. I'm guessing he'll say yes.

Can you send me a link to your version of the map? I would like to see the difference.

Don't need to.  The one that you put on your drop box is the same as mine.  But it is different than the youtube video and top down screenshot in Bill's thread.

Screenshot that shows the lack of trees relative to your youtube video

I removed all my mods and saw no difference.

This screenshot is from about the same spot as your setup shot from page 1:

This one is actually the most useful...

  6. Really? I'm fairly certain that it's just a map that ce with either CMFI or GL. Do you think you might have had trees turned off?

    Here's a Dropbox link:

Really.  At least for me.  Bill mentioned the same thing when I pointed it out in his thread.

The dropbox link is the same map as my install but there are a LOT less trees and no Café Pinocchio...

    Thanks,

    Bob

  7. Zodzinka?  I loaded that map in the editor and it has NO plans for the AI.  I have played a bunch of QBs and haven't had the same experience.

Load the map you are referring to into the editor and look for AI plans.  Most have them if not Mark usually fixes them up.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  8. I completely agree with Mark that BS is he best of the CM2x games for QB computer force selection. Maybe because the forces involved are the most balanced of any of the other games? It's not perfect but better than CMRT for sure.

Beauty is if you don't like the forces. Quit and start another one. Or play a scenario. Or pick both sides and save and play it again later when you forget what unpicked for the OpFor. I am going to try that last one.

  9. I would much rather pay $10 to get the new features added to the game I have, in a theater that I am interested in; than to have to pay $50 for a new game to have those features in a theater I may not be interested in as much.

Being on a fixed income, I don't have the luxury of buying all the games as they come out, either. For the foreseeable future, it is all I can do to keep up with the modules for this one. It certainly helps to know when I do buy a module that it is not going to be made obsolete in a few months when a new game comes out.

This is the only gaming company I am aware of that makes the new features available for older games and not require the purchase of the new one. I do not mind paying a small upgrade fee, especially when that money is going to keep the company in business, and result in more features being made available. This is a development cycle I am happy to stand behind.

It also has the benefit of continuing support. How many of us have old games tucked away somewhere that were abandoned by their developer long ago (or not long after release) because version 2/3/etc. came out? Certain companies are notorious for this, and I made a point of not buying any of their games. Frankly, they are also notorious for not supporting their current games, but I digress.

One simple fact remains, however. No one is forced to buy the upgrade. If they are happy with the feature set they have, the game will not refuse to load without the additional purchase.

    Well put!
