4.
quote:
Does anyone have access to dispersion stats vs. range for Panther APCBC. The Desert Fox has provided hit %'s but we need actual lateral (Breite) and vertical (hohe) dispersion (streung) data.

Have you checked my Panther page? Check out the "Characteristics" section. I guess additional vertical and lateral dispersion data can only be found in the archives by digging through additional Waffenpruefamt data. The Waffenpruefamt data represent actual battlefield results for a tank which fires on a target from a concealed defense position. (most kills were optained this way. Most times the enemy did neither know what hit them nor wherefrom the shot came). Remember tank engagements are won from the tank that sees the enemy first. If the german tank formation has to fire while being on the move (attack, delay, meeting engagement, etc..) certain other factors (moral, stress in game terms) reduce the hit %. However german doctrine strongly ephazises leapfrogging or another overwatch tactic keeping at least half of your formation stationary while the other part moves. This gives the overwatching part the ability to calmly fire at everything that moves. Ergo real life hit percentages were more or less in the area of the Waffenpruefamt report. The key sentence is: "However, the average, calm gunner, after sensing the tracer from the first round, could achieve the accuracy shown as the Practice data" The key element is to get the distance to the target (which hasn´t changed until today) correct. If you have it correct you have an extraordinary high likelyhood to score a first shot kill, if you haven´t you have to look where the tracer falls and to use "Messer und Gabel". This gives you the correct distance after the 2nd shot. 300m engagements with tanks failing several times to hit the target with consecutive shots are a BIG NO-NO with flat trajectory weapons in tank warfare except your optics are totally damadged. 6.
quote:
Question to Armour Grogs: I've been searching around for German WWII fire commands and there sequence. Can anyone provide suggested references?

Have a look at Wolfgang Schneider´s "Panzertaktik" or see if you can get hold of a copy of Kaufmann "Panzerkampfwagenbuch". Or you can try to get a 1950s copy of the Bundeswehrvorschrift "Der Panzerzug" and "Die Panzerkompanie" which included basically all lessons learned during WW2 and was written by former officers of the Wehrmacht. Try Bundesarchiv Freiburg. 8. Hi folks, Just want to let you know. The Ram Kangaroo MOD has been redone by me and is soon to be released at my site. I got into contact with Marco Bergman for doing this one and he was so kind to give me permission to "borrow" parts of his excellent MODs to beef up the RAM-Kangaroo and to give it the special look&feel we all appreciate. Here´s a little teaser for your pleasure: . http://members.nbci.com/thedesertfox1891/ram_kangaroo.jpg . 11.
quote:
So you're saying that the 45 Bn TOE is the way it is out of necessity and not out of any lessons learned?

Correct. The same holds true for the tank bn TOEs. Germany was running out of personal (that means qualified NCOs and COs), besides running out of tech. equipment. If they would have had the manpower and equipment they would most propably have stayed with the 1944 KSTNs. Look up the personal and tank strengh figures of 1944 "Freie Gliederung" and compare them with the 1945 KStNs. It was done out of necessity. 12. Matt, Yes, all versions work on my Windows2000 PC which doesn´t have a soundcard. Everything runs fine, except the new 1.1beta which doesn´t even start. 13. Hi, Might be this is something BTS want´s to look into. I tried the TCP/IP beta patch on my Windows 2000 PC at work which has NO soundcard. It simply does not run at all, but generates the following error message [errorlog.txt]: CPU speed rated at 1274 DirectSound error at creation: -2005401480 ERROR: GSound.cpp line 1739 Patch 1.05 and predecessors run fine and flawless though. I guess [dangerous ] that the new *.exe has a problem with PCs that have no soundcard installed ? 17. Matt, I have a problem here. The Tiger you posted at CMHQ [ DarkTHC] is a 100% identical copy (except darkening) of my Tiger 221 which has been posted on my website at 03.September 2000. The URL of my 221 Tiger which includes the non-turret-number option as well is: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Capsule/2930/CombatMission/221.zip Compare all the *.bmp files of the Tiger MOD you posted and make up your own mind. Indeed I find this kind of behaviour not nice at all. Giving credit to the original author of the baselying MOD is the least I can expect when someone decides to MOD my work. 18. Hi BK,
quote:
Well after 30 turns as the Germans, the Allies were left with about 30 knocked out tanks to 1 Tiger and 5 PZIV's for the Germans. I stopped playing as I figured I could probably drive the Allies almost off the map

SPOILER ALERT ! What should I say except "You haven´t done the job yet" I guess you are half way through and holding Gaumesnil in the west and Robertmesnil in the east ? Well your order is to take the highground north of St.Aignan. So push on your attack and take the "La Jalousie" crossing and St.Aignan de Cramesnil. Seriously, If you can take all objecties and virtually whipe out the allies....congratulation on a job well done. Then your performance is way better than the performance of Wittmann and Waldmueller 50 years back. Remember I tried to design this scenario as close to the events that happened on 8th August as possible and the CM engine allows. Of course there is not only one way to play the scenario, but if you take the historical approach you will most likely end with the historical outcome. That´s how it is designed. Yes go ahead and play it from the allied side as well. It´ll be hard but should be way easier than playing as the germans, or....maybe it´s just me, because I know the landscape inwards out and because I can call every hull-down position on the map with surname ? 21. Bill, Yep, I love Frank´s Stoumont campaign, it´s top notch. Well, Cintheaux is my first one, I never bothered with scenariodesign before, but the realistic terrain features of CM made me curious to know how the terrain of this battle might have looked. So I decided to create the map basing on a 1:25000 topo and various published sketches from Ken Touts "Tank!" and "A fine night for Tanks", Patrick Agtes "Wittmann", Will Fey´s "Panzerkampf" and Hubert Meyer´s war diary. That´s how it all started. I hope I have mailed it to everyone who requested it. I was kinda surprized of the feedback. You guys are really hungry For everyone I forgot in my mails, here´s the URL to grab it, until Grego finds the time to update the "Kessel" page. http://www.geocities.com/desertfox1891/CombatMission/scens/Cintheaux-Totalize.zip Enjoy! Forces: Canadian/British/Polish/German Version number: 1.03 Author: Helge "The DesertFox" Bertram Feedback: thedesertfox@gmx.net Description: By noon of August 8th, the Allies had generally reached the objectives assigned for Phase 1 of Operation Totalize, which began at 23:30 on August 7th. The objectives of Totalize were of pivotal importance to the campaign in the West and if executed properly, the Operation could seal the fate of the German forces now trapped in the Falaise pocket. The only 'sag' that had developed in the allied advance during Phase I, formed on the western wing of the front, near Caillouet. However, the German resistance in this area was soon to be smashed by a renewed assault by combined allied forces. Thanks to aerial bombardment by more than 1,000 bombers, the concentrated action by more than 600 tanks and more than 700 artillery guns, the superior Canadian/British forces compouned their previous successes and secured their Phase 1 objectives. They had managed to break through the positions of the 89. Infanteriedivision at a width of approximately 6 km. The Infanteriedivision, recently moved into the position, was without its Panzers and heavy mobile antitank weapons. The brittle and under strength German force crumbled under the weight of the massive combined assault. As scheduled for Phase 2, the allied advance would resume from their now established positions near Gaumesnil, Cramesnil and Saint Aignan, into the depth of the terrain along the Caen-Falaise road. They were close to success in an Operation that could destroy the brunt of the German forces in France. Only refitting elements of the 12.SS-Panzerdivision could be deployed to assist the German defenses. These lone elements would be responsible for throwing back the combined Canadian/British Operation and maintaining some stability on the ever weakening German frontline. 25. A lot of folks including myself are using Gunslingers Mods. They were leading the way for a lot of Mods which try to give Combat Mission´s terrain a more photolike look. Look at Garry Kumps site for an impression how they look and how they change the game towards a more natural "look&feel" http://www.gkump.com/cm/Terrain/Gunslinger/gunslinger.htm http://www.gkump.com/cm/Terrain/Kump/kump_terrain.htm http://www.gkump.com/cm/Terrain/Magua/magua_terrain.htm The best way is to use Gunslinger´s Mods except vehicles and soldiers and combine them with Maguas Buildings, Kump's Terrain Mods and my soon to be released grass mod and new hedgerow/hedge Mod which you can see above Cheers Helge ------------------ Sbelling chequed wyth MICROSOFT SPELLCHECKER - vorgs grate! - The DesertFox - Email: TheDesertFox@gmx.net WWW: http://www.geocities.com/desertfox1891
