  1. I've tried searching the archives but the scenario depots referenced there seem inactive. Where can I download extra user created scenarios for CMBB? What came with the game is pretty small.

  3. Think I posted to the wrong NVIDIA forum: Ok - You're dealing with a dunce here. Just got a new computer with the Nvidia 8800 and I'm experiencing the exact same problem as the very first post. Can someone please explain to a dummy what this entails step by step: Troubleshooting note: I have tried different refresh rates I have tried turing all graphics options to off in my NVIDIA control panel. I have uninstalled my display driver and reinstalled. Current as of 2.20.07 I have updated all of my mother board drivers (Nvidia 590 chipset) I have updated my bios. I am not running SLI I have tried compatability mode I have defraged my hard drive. The NVIDIA control panel doesn't exactly match "refresh rates" or "all graphics off". I have gone there and turned everything "off" as best as I could determine. I have the latest Jul 2007 driver update installed. Since this computer is brand spanking new not sure about the 590 chipset or bios updates. Don't think I need to defrag just yet. What's "SLI"? What's "Compatibilty Mode"? Very frustrating - was looking forward to playing CMBB.

  5. I apologize in advance for not spending more time searching this forum. I purchased this game recently (I had played CMBO and had loaded most of the mods available at the time) and quickly found myself overwhelmed in trying to find and choose mods for CMBB. Where are the best sites for CMBB specific mods? Do some of the original CMBO terrain and sound mods still work with CMBB? I need advice in sorting through the gazillion mods I've seen available for all of the CM games.
  6. Some of the current (excellent I might point out) AARs notwithstanding, I can't help but notice that a great number of these AARs never seem to make it out of 1940 or at the latest, 1941. Seems that either the Germans are way ahead of history and have such enormous strength that the Allies give up then and there. Or - the Allies bullox up the German time table to the point where Adolph calls it a day. I haven't gone through every AAR, but are there any where the Allies and Axis actually went into 1945 and played down to the wire (granted, if I've read the manual correctly, given the all or nothing victory conditions, I guess there's not much incentive to play all the way through to '45, is there?).
  7. In some respects this is still clear as mud. I'm a visual kind of guy, so if someone is willing to put in the time, some actual 'picture' examples of various supply situations with HQs (and supply values annotated per hex to show the dynamics) would be enormously appreciated! As a quick aside, being a relative newbie here, I'm finding the dynamics for HQ and unit attachments to be extremely frustrating and aggratvating. I really feel I should be allowed to influence this, even if it means more work.

OK - Now I understand the confusion although the question still remains: When I have repeatedly gone to the War Room turn after turn and look where the US and USSR flags are, instead of a readiness percentage number, instead immediately to their right is "Historical" and "Neutral" for the US and USSR flags respectively - which are the settings I clicked on under "Options". When I was at work I downloaded the demo and lo and behold, there were percentage numbers by those two flags. I've loaded the most current patch as well as the "Elite" mod, so I'm not sure why I'm not seeing percentage numbers (didn't see them before I loaded the "Elite" either).
  9. Well, I've printed these replies out and I intend to look real close at that war map tonight. The thing is that after looking at the war map and its associated other screens over and over the last several evenings, I just don't recall seeing a percentage number adjacent to the USSR flag(s). I recall a screen that shows industrial and resource numbers (by a "X-10" figure or something like it) under the major countries - so that's why I'm groping here to understand just what I'm supposed to be observing.
  10. Bill, OK - I don't believe I'm phrasing this question correctly. Here's a quote from your strategy guide regarding the USSR: "If you don't have enough units on the border the USSR war readiness goes up about 10% a turn. If you have too many units on the border the USSR war readiness will increase greater than 10% a turn. Insufficient Axis garrisons or large buildup of Axis forces along the Soviet border will increase USSR war readiness, so keep an eye on the war map and make adjustments accordingly." What exactly am I keeping an eye on in the war map to indicate to me that I've got too few or too many Axis units along the USSR border? BTW - Your strategy guide has been an enormous help. Although a simple looking game at first glance, I don't know how much time I would have had to invest to learn things the hrad way and then subsequently start over again. Your guide helped significantly narrow what otherwise would have been a rather steep learning curve on my part.

As I've been pouring over the manual and that excellent strategy guide one point made often is to keep an eye on a neutral country's readiness level, which is always expressed in terms of, "After declaring war on such and such, said neutral country's readiness increased by 10%". The guide then states to keep checking the war map for these readiness levels. That said, where on this war map are readiness percentages (levels) shown?
  12. I have only just very recently begun playing this game and have been naturally reading every post, FAQ, and guide on this forum that I could find. Despite that, some HQ functions still baffle me. It's been stressed over and over to check your units for attachment to HQ. It seems to be implied that attachment can be manually done - yet I've not been able to discover the procedure for this. Can units be attached to a HQ manually? Second, I'm still confused over using HQ as a supply chain. The patch narrative says that this function has been added to the game. Yet a post I read says the opposite. Where is the ground truth?
  13. "GunnerGoz I must respectfully disagree with you. Read this book and you will understand why. The Sherman M4A1 was NOT designed to fight tanks. The greatest shame of it all is that we could have seen the Pershing in numbers must sooner in the war. But Patton did not want them. He feared they might slow him down. Patton was succesful because he used the speed and mobility of his forces. But this could have been done just as effectively and quickly and with A LOT less casualties using the Pershing". I've read that book as well and recall that part. What's not mentioned is that at that demo in England (I believe around Jan/Feb '44), Patton and company were shown a film of a prototype Pershing on an Aberdeen Proving Ground test track - I believe no factory had really been 'ramped up' to go into full rate production yet. So this was somewhat of a case of 'a bird in hand worth two in the bush'. As it turned out, the Pershings that arrived in the ETO had mechanical problems right until the end of the war. Those problems followed the Pershing to the Korean War, where US tankers often preferred the 'Easy Eight' Sherman to the Pershing. Lastly, given the Pershing's slower speed, bigger gas-guzzling engine, and the aforementioned mechanical problems, would Patton have gone racing thru France in Aug '44 like he did with Shermans? Cooper's book is a must read but it struck me that he had some axes to grind in writing it.
  14. Excuse my ignorance Grisha, could you explain the term "maskirovka"? I'm guessing it's something like massive build up of force at one point but it's purely guesswork on my part and I don't own a Russo-English dictionary. I don't know the exact translation, but the word refers to deception operations, something the Soviets were arguably the best in the world at in the '43-'45 time frame.
  15. I don't know if this is doable, but I really miss from the Raiders scenario site were the 'star ratings' for each scenario, where I could tell at a glance what scenarios players had thought were good to excellent (4 or 5 stars) or were just average (3 stars) to poor (1-2 stars).
